Cheryl Cole In Monique Lhuillier – ‘Foxcatcher’ Cannes Film Festival Premiere

"Foxcatcher" Premiere - The 67th Annual Cannes Film Festival

Cheryl Cole made her first (and only) appearance on the red carpet this evening (May 19) for the ‘Foxcatcher’ Cannes Film Festival in Cannes, France.

The singer and returning X Factor judge wore a Monique Lhuillier Fall 2014 strapless black lurex jacquard gown with a rise and fall hemline.

Like Jessica Chastain, Cheryl’s gown was attacked by the wind, sending her train flowing behind her, which she also handled gracefully.

With her two-tone hair swept up into a chic updo, she completed her look with de Grisogono jewels, and black Gianvito Rossi ‘Carey’ triple-strap pumps I wish were sandals.

Many of you love Cheryl for her penchant for Stéphane Rolland Couture at this event, so does this look delight or disappoint?

It’s a nice enough look, but this the first time Cheryl has failed to wow me at Cannes.

Not liking this at all. It is too short in the front – and it all comes out looking tacky.

Yeah, it’s not a great look.

Not flattering. Not special. Not memorable. Just… not.

She looks pretty good but since I have seen her way way way better before, is just ok. I think she should stick to Stephane Rolland when here.

Nothing wowing but I don’t think that it’s that bad either. She looks beautiful, but she had better days at this festival.

Too short in the front and no correct shoes for this gown

The kind of black that doesn’t excite. Meh for me.

  7. dee May 19, 2014 at 19:16 #

    Looks better on the runway.

      +1

It is a NO for me. It looks soooo heavy, even if it is flowing in the wind, the texture of the fabric gives it a heavy aspect.

    • Christine May 19, 2014 at 19:44 #

      Not liking this

The rise and fall hemline isn’t working for me on this occasion (it goes awkwardly a bit too high up in the front) and black is boring, can’t help but feel underwhelmed.

    Cheryl looks great, not amazing!

She can do way better than this

  11. TeaAtTwo May 19, 2014 at 19:57 #

This feels a bit lacklustre for me.

Not a fan of these hi-lo hem dresses on shorter women like Cheryl and Frieda, these dresses seem to dwarf them and make them look even shorter.

Sigh!!! What a let down! It looks tacky.

I totally get that they’re a lot of Cheryl Cole fans, but I never got the memo. I don’t think she’s memorable at all. Pretty yes, but she’s never been a “WOW” for me. She falls in that category that Rita Ora currently sits in. She looks good sometimes, but never seems to infuse the clothes she’s wearing with her own personality.

This is once again a pretty dress on a pretty woman. That’s it!

The dress makes her look so short. Not flattering at all.

  16. MaddyEliza May 19, 2014 at 22:59 #

I’m clearly in the minority here but I love this to be honest.

Everytime I see her on the red carpet, it either love or hate, never in between, and I hate this look, the hair is too big, her eye makeup makes her look tired, the dress looks cheap, and those shoes are hideous.

    Complete no.

I think with better shoes and jewels this could have been pretty special. As it is, I feel the hair and accessories look dated.

  19. Peony May 20, 2014 at 02:31 #

Big hair, big gown, mullet hemline – yawn. I agree with previous comments that it’s both tacky and unflattering (she doesn’t have the height to carry it off).

  20. jenny May 20, 2014 at 07:12 #

I don’t know you guys hate it but I loved it.
She’s so petite and to be able to change styles and not stick to bodycon, revealing gowns like she do all the time, it wowed me in the right as it surprised me. Never though I see her in this

Sorry can’t get past the shoes which are doing her legs no favours

  22. Stel May 20, 2014 at 12:10 #

It screams “I need attention desperately!”

  23. Lisa May 20, 2014 at 16:21 #

The dress doesn’t photograph too well. It did look amazing on the live Cannes broadcast. I think she looks better with hair down. I also think the dress needed dressing with more jewellery. She looks great but has looked better… I would have worn a red lipstick!!
