Best Dressed, Blog, Cannes Film Festival
Blake with Adele following close behind.
My Top 3 from Day 1
Blake Lively in Gucci Premiere. Also loved Zhang Ziyi and Jane Fonda.
Blake Lively followed by Nicole Kidman and Jane Fonda. It was a great Day 1 for Cannes.
I really wanted to vote for Nicole Kidman. She’s one of my all-time favourites, especially on grand red carpet events like the Cannes Film Festival. But the truth is that I’m so disappointed by what she’s done to her face, that I can’t even enjoy the fashion. She’s an Oscar-winning ICON. One of the most respected and admired actresses of her generation. She should have enough self-confidence to know that she. is. enough. She isn’t some bimbo beauty queen who needs to stay young. She’s a mature, iconic woman. An actress, globally renowned for her talent and natural beauty. All this puffing and freezing and plumping just is disheartening.
So – I voted for Blake Lively. Who literally made me gasp aloud and say, “Holy Christ, she is HOT.” Stunning!
I apologize for being harsh but you really have no idea how body image issues work, do you? It’s easy to judge on the outside and decide what should be enough for Nicole but you’re not her. She’s a 46 year old woman in Hollywood. I can only imagine the kind of pressure she has on her. I won’t pretend that her face looks good but the judgmental tone of your comment bothered me.
Blake is no stranger to plastic surgery. They are in an image/looks conscious industry. I’ll bet that 90% of Hollywood has had SOMETHING done but just don’t admit it.
I agree with you, considering the age she started and how plastic surgery is becoming fundamental nowadays even for very young people, blame Nicole for all she’s done and praise Blake is a bit nonsense, she’s not a natural beauty. The comparison is out of place.
Exactly. I’m all for criticizing plastic surgery but be consistent and don’t praise Blake’s appearance in the next sentence lol. Even if the work that Blake has done looks good.
Jeremy you articulated my thoughts beautifully .
I applaud your comment. Nicole is one of my all time favorite actresses and seeing her face these days makes me really sad. I wish she was strong enough to not get these fillers in her face, she was aging fine without the use of them.
Look how stunning Jane Fonda is, we are talking about a woman who is 76 years old, c’mon!!!
She is gorgeus, better that anyone of the list, the color is great, love the dress <3
I can’t get enough of Blake – she really brought it. I hope she also shows some versatility in her subsequent looks – that Elie Saab would look stunning on her.
I can’t believe Kendall Jenner is on the list. Her dress is a mess !
Sofia Coppola would have been far better on the list. Her look was great and different of what we usually see on red carpet.
I have to admit that it was a pretty disappointing Day 1.
I agree, it was overall a pretty lackluster day.
Zoe and Blake were my top two, with Jane in 3rd.
Pretty impressed with Night 1. I voted for Zhang Ziyi.
I would have preferred to see Gong Li in Roberto Cavalli make the poll then Kendall Jenner.
Blake Blake Blake, can I say her name again?!
I was also disappointed to see Kendall Jenner in this poll. I would have included Carol Bouquet.
Are you going to do a wish list of gowns you would like to see this year at cannes?
1. Zyang Ziyi
2. Blake lively
3. Jane Fonda
It’s shocking to me how well Blake Lively does on this site, with these discerning writers. I find her gown completely conventional and unimaginative. Really, I’m shocked by the extent to which she is endorsed here. Kidman’s gown is BY FAR superior in design, display.
I agree with you 100%
Blake’s is just any other red carpet gown.. so boring and typical!!! Come on people!!
Zhang Ziyi’s on the other hand screams fashion! Now THAT’S a forward gown and a masterpiece!
PREACH! Something is in the water here! The readers of this site always worship Lively’s fashion even when she is always completely unspectacular. I find her “style” to be so standard and boring. Yet she wins all these polls, why?? Give me Kidman’s stunning Armani, which is a piece of art just in itself, over all these zzzzzz Gucci looks any day.
I do somewhat agree with you. Blake’s style isn’t anything new, exciting or interesting. She wears generic and conventional pieces…she’s no Cate Blanchett or Jennifer Connelly or Tilda Swinton but she still makes me gasp when I see her. Why? It’s because of the way she carries her. She’s statuesque, always smiling and most of all she’s confident! She has an incredible presence on the red carpet, one that makes her generic clothing look outstanding.
IMO of course…
Valissa – I agree completely. Her presence really lifts the gown.
ITA! Thought I was alone in this.
What an underwhelming first day. When I first saw each look I was excited, but nothing really stood out. Let’s hope for better look the next few days. My top two were Adele and Blake. I went with Adele because even though her cleavage and leather she looks so innocent and sweet.
Dramatic and edgy Zhang Ziyi and Nicole Kidman in the striking, one of a kind Armani Prive gown.
Nicole, hands-down. Loved her dress. Zoe Saldana is my runner up.
Nicole Kidman in Armani Prive, with Zhang Ziyi in Stephane Rolland runner-up. They brought the kind of elegant drama that I look for at Cannes.
Can’t agree more.
Nicole’s dress was spectacular. She was the clear best dressed of the event. But of course RFCA readers will vote on a boring, standard and completely “meh” Blake Lively look just like they did for the MET Gala, when there were dozens of stunning ball gowns and true FASHION statements and still Lively’s dime-a-dozen goddess gown somehow won the poll.
Some of y’all baffle me so much…
I think you are being very disrespectful the RCFA Readers. Your opinion is your opinion, you don’t need to throw people under the bus to make it.
It baffles me why a dress that looked like it would be comfortable on a Drag Queen is your choice but to each their own
Just wondering what Kendall is doing here…. I mean why she is at Cannes?
In her post it says that she’s a guest of Chopard
Hi FC– do you think you could feature Jane Campion? I know she’s not really who you might normally have on the site but she looked amazing! (and she’s Jury President). Leila Hatami, who’s also on the jury looked stunning as well. Love your work as always
My policy has always been to feature people who I know, that interest me weather negatively or positively to write about them and people who wear runway pieces.
Jane doesn’t fall under either category.
1. Blake Lively
2. Zhang Ziyi
3. Jane Fonda
I agree with others – this was an underwhelming first night; I expected more. What’s your opinion, FC?
not enough major, memorable moments
I don’t know why Adele is in this poll but Gong Li isn’t. Adele’s dress is almost the same as Emma Watson’s Chanel last year at the same event.
Love Jane Fonda’s look! Rocking it at her age!
But distressed at the lack of coverage of Leila Hatami, who looked amazing today as part of the jury. I think we should celebrate fashion of all styles.
Normally I love custom Gucci, but this is a bit meh. Nice, but not anything special. It was easy to pick Nicole, the Armani has just found its way onto my BDOTY list.
My no1 was Ziyi and her exquisite gown, Blake comes second, and Nicole third although she was wearing the most beautiful dress of the three. This year she appears rigid, maybe anxious and not having any fun.
Zhangziyi #1, so gorgeous and nice imagery dress!
She didn’t make the list, but Tilda in Chanel wins for me!
Zhangziyi。very good。 NO.1
Zhang Ziyi is definitely my favourite look here.
