Fan Bingbing In Jean Paul Gaultier Couture – ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ China Press Conference

Fan Bingbing In Jean Paul Gaultier Couture - 'X-Men Days of Future Past' China Press Conference

Fan Bingbing attended the press conference for ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ earlier today (May 13) in Beijing, China alongside Peter Dinklage and Hugh Jackman.

Following the premiere in New York, the Asian actress continues to delight, wearing a Jean-Paul Gaultier Spring 2014 Couture look featuring a cobalt-blue blouson top with a black pencil skirt creating a unique silhouette.

As much as I dislike those quadruple-stack pumps she insists on wearing, I have, at this point, tried to make peace with them.

Chopard jewels and a half-up, half-down hairstyle completed her look.

I just can’t make the peace with these shoes.

    • beta May 13, 2014 at 13:08 #

      Me neither

For me the one really predictable thing about Bingbing (and other Asian ladies) are the regrettable hoof shoes. If she didn’t wear them for 9 outfits out of 10 I would take these ones as an ironic and even tongue-in-cheek part of the outfit, but alas, every single time.

As for everything above the ankles, I love the colour, but am dearly missing some structure in that top. It’s just too much fabric hanging down on her like a tent.

Hideous pumps aside, LOVE this outfit! Can’t wait to see her at Cannes!!!!

    • Catherine Kallon May 13, 2014 at 11:50 #

      she’s not going :(

      • Alina May 13, 2014 at 13:07 #

That’s sad news. :( As predictable as her Elie Saab dresses were getting, she was a nice constant on the red carpet at Cannes. Plus, I was hoping for a traditional inspired gown at the opening ceremony.

    Can’t stand those horrible/hideous shoes.

  5. Christine May 13, 2014 at 11:32 #

This look is fug. Them shoes are horrible

  6. amy May 13, 2014 at 11:33 #

no way, I can’t “unsee” those orthopedic monstrosities

    • Jennifer May 13, 2014 at 22:20 #

These shoes are literally the opposite of orthopedic shoes. I know not what you mean.

  7. Denise May 13, 2014 at 11:46 #

Don’t like this outfit. The top is shapeless and the shoes ruin it further. Nothing like her previous BDOTY gown.

    • CTgirl May 13, 2014 at 21:34 #

      Exactly!

      • chyc May 14, 2014 at 03:45 #

+1 and those are some hideous shoes! My cornea!

  8. Gemma May 13, 2014 at 12:08 #

Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope. Those shoes have nothing to do with fashion. Shudder.

  9. Tracy May 13, 2014 at 12:29 #

    Those shoes are horrendous.

  10. charlotte May 13, 2014 at 12:30 #

    Alright,ladies.chill out.
This is clearly a miss for bingbing. But I’m just glad that she didn’t wear another Ellie saab embellished gown, which, is already a huge improvement for her.
And I agree with all of you ,those hideous platform heels are an eyesore.
I am actually looking forward to seeing her Beijing premiere look later today.

  11. Yeliz May 13, 2014 at 13:04 #

I can definitely not make peace with those hideous shoes. Ankles up she looks very chic, but why ruin a good look with those awful blue things?!

    • Alina May 13, 2014 at 13:08 #

      Agree.

  12. dee May 13, 2014 at 14:03 #

    Love it from ankles up.

  13. Maria May 13, 2014 at 14:35 #

Ugh I thought we were done with those shoes! They ruin this look.

  14. justme May 13, 2014 at 15:35 #

She’s still shorter than Hugh with those platforms on. I’m surprised, she’s often statuesque so I assumed that she was average/tall.

Anyway, so many Chinese celebrities seem to favor those type of heels that I can only conclude it’s a cultural thing. Can’t hate on that lol.

    • charlotte May 13, 2014 at 16:53 #

I have interviewed a lot of Chinese actresses on the shoe issue. And I can tell you,my friend. It’s not a cultural thing.
The reason why they have to wear those platform heels is surprisingly simple: these ladies are inconfident with their heights.
Fan bingbing is only 5’6 and she’s already been considered tall in asia.

      • dee May 13, 2014 at 17:42 #

That is what I always thought. The women are trying to give themselves some height by wearing these platform shoes. Just wish they could find some shoes that are more flattering.

        • Nadine May 14, 2014 at 07:12 #

Actually Fan is just a little above 5’4″. Those Chinese actresses often wear platforms only because of their body type–bigger head, shorter legs and longer upper body, to make their proportion look better, and they think height leverage makes them easily stand out in front of the cameras among others. Fan stands on skyhigh platform heels under every gown she wears, or else she’ll just look chunky.

          • charlotte May 14, 2014 at 09:31 #

you’re absolutely right.they wore those chunky shoes for the same reason as Lady Gaga—to make their body proportion look better so they wouldn’t be ignored on the red carpet.

      • justme May 13, 2014 at 21:51 #

But aren’t they self-conscious about their heights because being short is considered a flaw over there? Like having darker skin for example. Hence, my cultural comment.
Maybe I’m reading too deep into it but so many of them go for these awful shoes that I think that there has to be some type of social pressure.

  15. Tracy L May 13, 2014 at 17:15 #

I have to agree. Hate those shoes. Love everything else.

  16. meena May 13, 2014 at 19:41 #

she needs to get over her height inferiority complex. she has so much else going for her. beautiful face. beautiful clothes and poise. have some confidence.

  17. Pedro May 14, 2014 at 06:06 #

Jean-Paul Gaultier on the red carpet always makes me happy!

    But the shoes… ew!

  18. Noemi May 14, 2014 at 10:57 #

I don’t like anything about this look.

  19. Seb May 14, 2014 at 22:52 #

Horrible look from head to toe
