Sarah Jessica Parker In Oscar de la Renta – 2014 Met Gala

Sarah Jessica Parker In Oscar de la Renta - 2014 Met Gala

Event co-chair Sarah Jessica Parker was one of the first people to strike a pose on the red carpet at the 2014 Met Gala on Monday (May 5) in New York City.

The fashion superstar wore a delightfully dramatic custom Oscar de la Renta gown with peplum petals and elegant white gloves.

Sarah Jessica is one to watch at this event every year, because she really takes the theme to heart and plays up the drama. While this gown would have been hard to pull off on any other occasion, it is absolutely stunning and apropos for the night.

Smokey eyes and a unique double chignon are the perfect compliment to the striking look.

The back view is equally striking here, and Sarah Jessica’s hairstylist kept that in mind by adding floral accents to the back of her updo.

Thanks, Sarah Jessica for starting things off right!

By far one if the worst dresses I have seen in a long time. Looks cheap and tacky.

I appreciate the drama of the gown, but the hairstyle is ridiculous. As for the gloves, I can give them a pass, considering the occassion.

On any other RC this is a GIANT NO! But for the Met Gala and its theme, this is MAJOR. Is this my personal taste? Um, definitely not.

But I love the nod to Charles James from the back.

    The hair is meh though

Sometimes I think she thinks she’s actually Carrie Bradshaw. The back of the dress is barely redeeming. I hate the signature on the train.

  5. Christy May 6, 2014 at 00:29 #

Her hair is amazing, I think she looks sensational!

So how does “Charles James: Beyond Fashion” lend itself to a theme? Oddly enough it seems both broad and highly specific.

      I totally agree.

YES!! This is how you dress for the gala! The gown with its full skirt and peplum petals is reminiscent of Charles James’s iconic “Petal gown”. And her styling with the gloves and elaborate updo is in tune with the 40-50s glamour. Full theatrical drama – one can always count on SJP to deliver a spectacular on-theme look. I applaud her.

I can forgive the cinnamon bun hair, but that signature is ostentatious and tacky, tacky, tacky.

I want to appreciate the drama but there’s something so cheap about this look :/
I respect the commitment but it’s still a no.

i agree. i think that she has her personal taste of style.

I’m not usually a fan of her style, but here, she looks fantastic! I love how dramatic this gown is and I also like the hairstyle. It’s the MET Gala, it’s go big or go home, so I think she’s already one of the best dressed of the night.

I like the drama. That’s it.

  13. Isabella May 6, 2014 at 01:55 #

For some reason this reminds me of Geena Davis’ awful 1992 Oscars dress. There’s just too much going on with this look.

  14. ph May 6, 2014 at 02:10 #

    So 90′s…In the bad sense.

  15. Victoria May 6, 2014 at 02:31 #

Ohhh the dress is branded, at the back. YUCK – so tacky!

  16. Joy May 6, 2014 at 02:40 #

This is not good. This whole look reminds me of something a Disney villain would wear, especially with that hair style! Sorry I can’t get on board with this.

  17. EmmaWoodhouse May 6, 2014 at 03:52 #

I get what she was going for, but the silhouette looks cheap and tack…a Barbie dress, not an homage to the beautiful architecture of Charles James’ designs.

  18. Dhppy May 6, 2014 at 07:16 #

This is best saved for Disney theme night.

  19. Betelgeuze May 6, 2014 at 08:15 #

The moment I’ve seen SJP and Bee Sheffer I knew that this will be a great night. The look from the back is the real stand-out here. J’adore.

  20. the dame May 6, 2014 at 09:44 #

Love the back, HATE the front! The front looks ill fitting, her hair is weird, Hate the boring bodice, it looks like a fairy dress, the back is DRAMA and wonderful.

  21. Pedro May 6, 2014 at 12:44 #

    Queen SJP looks fantastic!

    I love the drama

  22. Amanda May 6, 2014 at 18:43 #

I really love the back of this dress.

Can someone please tell Sarah that she’s not Grace Kelly?
