Nicole Richie In Donna Karan Atelier – 2014 Met Gala

Nicole Richie struck a cool pose on the red carpet at the 2014 Met Gala on Monday (May 5) in New York City.

The edgy star wore a Donna Karan Atelier custom-dyed, Sage backless, velvet gown with tiny asymmetrical straps that criss-cross around the back.

To accent the look, she wore a Zagliani clutch, Christian Louboutin shoes and delicate jewelry from her own line, House of Harlow 1960, and hipster favorite Catbird.

While I love this color, I can’t help but feel like there is just a little bit too much skin showing for this type of occasion (though Nicole pulls it off without being entirely vulgar).

While at first I wasn’t thrilled with the messy coiffing of her purple-hued hair, I actually think the styling is a good match for her overall look.

What do you think? Right on point, or a little too clingy and see-through?

She literally looks like a White Walker from Game of Thrones. I’d like to say that I don’t mean that in a mean way but I just saw this and my brain went, “White Walkers!” I’m struggling to have any other thoughts about it.

She looks like a ghost from Christmas past. This could have worked but Nicole ruins it for me. Her hair, the expression she’s making, and the side boob take away any chance of this being a beautiful look. Seriously, Charles James was class.

Maybe a little too much side-boob but I think this is my favourite look of the night.

I’m leaning towards like. I’m not crazy about the gown, but it reminds me of a modern art painting from Charles James time period heyday. And the styling is very nice. Her extreme thinness is aging her, but the purple hair certainly offsets that.

I like the silhouette, I think suits Nicole well. The colour and fabric are a huge let down though. The sheer parts are even worse
She usually looks great at the MET Gale but this is probably one of her worse looks sadly.

Looks like a cheap rip-off of the dress Nina Dobrev wore at Met Gala two years ago. It’s like Donna Karan didn’t even try.

This look is terrible. Doesn’t fit the theme and isn’t flattering.

Such a true stylista! Doing everything right! Love it! Love the edgy feeling. Never a dull moment with that girl!

Like but wanting some statement earrings.

Wasn’t the theme supposed to be 40’s/50’s, white-tie elegance?
    What is this?

Totally echoing you. This is a tacky look, the dress is cheap and unflattering and the overall effect is kind of ghastly.

I don’t know – I just can’t get past the purple hair. It just makes her seem like a cartoon character.

Is it just me or she looks like an elderly woman in great shape. This hair color and dress ages her so much, so sad.

    • Trudie May 6, 2014 at 02:34 #

Ahhh exactly what I was thinking. She looks really old.

    • Agnes May 6, 2014 at 16:22 #

I didn’t even recognize her, she looks old altogether, she doesn’t look nice.

  14. CTgirl May 6, 2014 at 01:34 #

This marks her as a Hollywood girl rather than a New York woman. OK but really way too laid back California for the Met Gala.

Um WTF is this? Really, Donna Karan, really?
