Katie Holmes In Marchesa – 2014 Met Gala

Katie Holmes In Marchesa - 2014 Met Gala

Katie Holmes looks charming on the red carpet of the 2014 Met Gala on Monday (May 5) in New York City.

The actress chose a bright mustard yellow Marchesa Fall 2014 gown. The dramatic off-the-shoulder shape and ruching is accented by dainty beaded detailing at the waist. Harry Winston jewels add another dimension to this daring ensemble.

Katie’s tousled locks offset the boldness of the gown, which is an edgy trend that I happen to love. Her hair and makeup is stunning, however, I’m not sold on the color of the gown. I do adore the silhouette on her, though. I would prefer to see Katie in emerald green or ruby red. Do you agree?

This will definitely be in my WDOTY end of the year polls. TERRIBLE.

Karolina shut it down in her Marchesa and this is just ugh ugh ugh

  2. Melanie May 6, 2014 at 01:57 #

Gross. Looks like frump and circumstance.

    Hot mess H2T.

  4. dee May 6, 2014 at 01:59 #

I’m giving her a pass because at least she stuck to the theme. I agree about the wrong color but another more flattering color this would have been pretty good.

  5. Carrie May 6, 2014 at 01:59 #

    It’s a NO for me.

      +1

    Tragic :(

  7. Hermoine May 6, 2014 at 02:00 #

I agree that this color is awkward. I have a hard time not comparing it to a bottle of mustard. On the plus side, tt bunched up part around the neck looks like a perfect place to stash some snacks.

She’s getting a better rating from me only because there have been some serious flops before her entrance.

Would have been so much better with her hair up like the model’s, some fabulous earrings and a lighter touch on the blush…

I don’t mind the colour on her but I hate the messy hairdo with the puffy dress. This alone sends the look to my worst dressed list.

  10. Nat39 May 6, 2014 at 02:05 #

I like the event-appropriate drama but that hair absolutely doesn’t belong.

    One word = MESS

  12. Mm May 6, 2014 at 02:10 #

Too gone with the wind. Hair should’ve been an updo.

  13. Sam May 6, 2014 at 02:21 #

She looks like a sunflower, not in a pretty way. Total mess!

  14. Marybeth May 6, 2014 at 02:23 #

    At least she’s going big.
With her hair up and a bit less blush, this would have been very nice indeed.

  15. Jess2 May 6, 2014 at 02:33 #

What in the world! I certainly agree about the emerald green or ruby red suggestions, overall though I am just not a fan of the dress irrespective of colour.

  16. CTgirl May 6, 2014 at 03:40 #

Whoever talked her into wearing a gown the color of a none too fresh egg yoke should be ashamed. This is just so wrong.

  17. chyc May 6, 2014 at 04:41 #

Only Katie Holmes can make Marchesa dress look ugly. What a mess.

  18. cherrysoftness May 6, 2014 at 04:59 #

I can’t complain, really, I’ve seen some ugly things in this red carpet. I mean, I can at least see how this could be lovely, and appreciate her effort, and I do like something about it UHM.

Does anyone remember lasy ear’s Met when she wore that darling white dress? I think it’s just that the color’s wrong..I can’t wear this shade of yellow..best left to a girl whose brunette with a tan. I do agree Emerald Green would have been awsome.

Like a really bad interpretation/impression of Belle from Beauty and the Beast.

  21. Valissa May 6, 2014 at 06:49 #

It’s like she put so much effort putting on the dress and couldn’t be bothered with her hair. It looks lazy, especially with such a dramatic gown.
    Hate the colour too

  22. Dhppy May 6, 2014 at 06:51 #

Shake it off. Tomorrow is another day, Scarlett.

  23. Yeliz May 6, 2014 at 07:51 #

The down is dramatic enough for the event, but the fit is off on Katie + I don’t like the colour and she could’ve really done something different with her hair this time.

  24. amy May 6, 2014 at 08:49 #

that fabric in yellow is hard to pull off. it doesn’t work for me. It’s just too much

  25. the dame May 6, 2014 at 09:37 #

I do love this dress but with that hair, I feel like she’s on the set of a Western…

  26. Joy May 6, 2014 at 11:26 #

Oh my goodness, she stole a costume from Gone With the Wind. I’m not sure that was the theme. Absolutely no for me.

  27. Marcel May 6, 2014 at 11:43 #

This is like from 19th century altogether. Scarlet O’Hara comes to mind ,as Joy said.
For God’s sake, you have all the fashion designers at your feet and all the beautiful dresses of the world available ( you could even order one especially made for yourself!) and you show up like…like THIS YELLOW MESS ? Sorry this is unforgivable.

  28. Jones19 May 6, 2014 at 12:15 #

Someone compared this to Belle from Beauty and the Beast…I can’t unsee it.

  29. EmmaWoodhouse May 6, 2014 at 13:20 #

I think that this is pretty impressive, from her. She looks confident, hair and makeup are good, and the dress definitely has some great elements. I think it’s the color that’s throwing me off. But kudos for a strong effort.

  30. Alina May 6, 2014 at 13:28 #

    Bad. Really, really bad.

  31. Inge May 6, 2014 at 14:40 #

    Awful.. just. awful.

  32. justme May 6, 2014 at 15:30 #

She’s a bit lost in the fabric, isn’t she?
Mustard gowns work best with a bold makeup. Red lippie or dramatic smokey eyes. But it’s not Katie’s style so the look was doomed from the beginning.

  33. Parvati May 6, 2014 at 22:11 #

The only thing I like about this look is that it’s something different from what we’re used to seeing her wear. Other than that, it’s bad. The fabric, the silhouette, the hair… everything.

    MUSTARD AND BACONNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!
