Janelle Monae In Tadashi Shoji – 2014 Met Gala

Janelle Monae In Tadashi Shoji - 2014 Met Gala

If you were expecting Janelle Monae to stick to her favoured black and white at the 2014 Met Gala on Monday (May 5) in New York City, you may have been in for a small surprise.

The musician did wear a white blouse and black trousers, but she also added a dramatic red and black crewel-embroidered Tadashi Shoji Fall 2014 tulle cape.

Adding the cape was just what was required to shake up her look and add a touch of drama to it in order to align the look with the theme of the night.

Jimmy Choo ‘Damek’ sandals, Kwiat jewels, and a chic braided updo completed her look.

My favourite so far. Original, dramatic but event appropriate, love it!

the cape is doing all the work here.

The cape is stunning and she’s working it.

But you have to admit it that, without it, it’s just your typical Janelle Monae attire. I love her but she could have skipped the white top/black leggings combo for one night lol.

I love the drama of it all! I do kind of wish she had worn the white gown as per the runway but it’s still a great look overall. She really makes it work

If there’s any event to wear this outfit, it would be the Met Gala! I like it!

Love the cape, the white shirt, the hair, love, love, love…
The pants, on the other hand, looks cheap and tacky and belong to the fire.
Great look until my eyes got burn by the fugly pants. It’s a pitty.

Best hair of the night. I wish she were wearing the gown, too.

Love it, so dramatic yet event appropriate. Though I think Monica Bellucci in her red Dolce & Gabbana cape. That look was furious. RC what are your thoughts in Monica’s last night apparent?

It’s bold and standout, for sure, but a bit matadoresque–and again, not really on theme
