Alexa Chung In Nina Ricci – 2014 Met Gala

Alexa Chung In Nina Ricci - 2014 Met Gala

Alexa Chung attended the ‘Charles James: Beyond Fashion’ Costume Institute Gala held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday (May 5) in New York City.

Surprisingly, she didn’t wear her go-to designers Christopher Kane or Erdem, selecting a Nina Ricci piece instead.

I was also surprised to see her wearing a gown because, as you know, she loves to keep it short and sweet.

The blue-grey silk-radzimir strapless gown accented with bow detailing down the front was also a rare homerun for Alexa.

While the silver embellished clutch was the perfect accessory, I can’t get on board with the black pumps with gold-studded toecaps.

I’m picturing silver sandals with this gorgeous look in my mind’s eye.

I don’t like the gown and nor her accessories. Neck up she looks great.

No to the dress. No to the accessories. No to the casual hairstyle.

The dress is OK and I like the shoes but not with the dress. Hair is too casual.

I really dislike the gathers down the front of the dress. Her makeup however is very nice.

Her make up looks gorgeous, but the dress is uninspired.

Really sad gown. Other than that, I have a question: do these celebrities get to choose their gowns/designers or do they actually get invited by the designers and are basically obligated to wear what the designers want?

    • Jones19 May 7, 2014 at 11:47 #

It’s a collaboration between the celeb and the designer most of the time, some celebs let the designer/stylists decide on everything but some are more involved in the process :)

SUPER BLAH. How can people even dare whisper style icon around her name??

    • Grace Patricia May 6, 2014 at 22:39 #

This is something I’ll never understand. I just wish she was wearing at least a different hairstyle.

She always looks frumpy and undone to me. I just can’t get on board with this dress, it looks like an 80’s prom dress.

    Not a good look

Love this–it’s perfect for the Charles James theme, but a modern take on the dresses of his in the exhibition

  11. EmmaWoodhouse May 6, 2014 at 15:34 #

When Alex Chung nails the theme more than 75% of everyone else, you know something’s up.
This is one of her best ever looks.

+1…the commenters on this site just don’t get it do they? Probably the best of the ball. And the shoes take it to the next level, style wise.
” The crunch and rustle of the fabric, the bows and the bejewelled shoes all nod to the Charles James era, showing off Alexa’s fashion know-how, but the final look is modern and cool”.

        Yeah, we’re ignorant that way…
