Lupita Nyong’o In Chanel – MTV Movie Awards 2014

Lupita Nyong’o In Chanel Fall 2014 – MTV Movie Awards 2014Lupita Nyong’o was among the mega stars at the MTV Movie Awards 2014, hosted at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles, California on Sunday (April 13).

I couldn’t have been more excited to see her strutting out a thrilling look from the sassy, style-forward supermarket that was Karl Lagerfeld’s Fall 2014 collection for Chanel.

Her artsy frock was itself a major confection—an indulgent feast of lollipop hues, abstractly sliced, spun and melted together like a mix of Skittles and posh Pixie Stix, and topped off by statement shoulder sleeves, embellished with jelly bean-hued paillettes.

This is my kind of Candy Land.

Instead of the runway’s tall sneaker boots, she wore another pair of her deliciously hued shoes, this time completing the dress with searing, cerulean-blue Casadei ‘Blade’ pumps.

As per usual, the flawless makeup was fully in place, including a smoky, metallic eye and apple-red lip.

J’adore.

She knocked it out of the park with this look! It was event appropriate but with a twist. She exceeded my expectations and I love the hair! I can’t stand when she does the part down the middle… lol

  6. Joy April 14, 2014 at 03:11 #

Oh my god YES! When I first saw this I was thinking birthday cake, candy or something but Candyland is it!

Lupita looks like a goddess!!! I think this is one of my favorite looks, if not my favorite of her. I am speechless. Could she be more beautiful? Seriously, I want to be like her when I grow up.

    • Christine April 14, 2014 at 03:13 #

+1 agree, my only nitpick is that i wish her shoes were strappy.

      • Carrie April 14, 2014 at 15:01 #

Anyone who can make me like Chanel is a bona fide alchemist, turning dross into, um, candy, lol. Love the shoe color and the way the dress moves.

    • beta April 16, 2014 at 08:42 #

Totally hehe, this is the first chanel I’ve liked in a looong time, Lupita looks amazing!

  11. pinksugar April 14, 2014 at 03:36 #

Queen of the carpet as usual. This is one of my favorite Lupita looks to date. Not just anyone could rock this like she is. She nailed it from head to toe.

  12. Eri April 14, 2014 at 03:56 #

Such a fun look without looking cheesy. Love the hair style also!

  13. cherrysoftness April 14, 2014 at 04:04 #

She put a lot of young actresses to shame in this outfit; I’ve seen a handful of girls playing dress-up and I hope this has them thinking about their choices.

  14. Prudence April 14, 2014 at 04:33 #

this look alone should award her the september vogue cover, lupita you are beyond!!!!!!!

  15. Brandy April 14, 2014 at 05:46 #

Ugh, cringe every time a post is written by Rachel, always so full of cliches.

    • Maz April 14, 2014 at 18:54 #

      A bit rude?

  16. Valissa April 14, 2014 at 07:15 #

Fabulous dress!! And Lupita looks fab in it!

  17. Mm April 14, 2014 at 07:31 #

Love it. She is so exciting to see every appearance. Her hair stylist needs an award for creativity.

  18. mrs. a April 14, 2014 at 08:01 #

    BEST DRESSED OF THE WEEK!

With one exception…. Those pumps. I really wish she would stop wearing pointy toe pumps with everything. She has me wondering sometimes if she is self conscious about her toes. I wear pumps with clothes that I shouldn’t when I am due for a pedicure and haven’t gone yet. This cant be the case here because I know she gets her nails done like everyday. A strappy heel to go with the lines on the dress would have been perfection. As much as I love her style, I have never been a fan of her shoe game. She is often off.

I love how colourful this look is. The dress looks amazing on her and the shoes complement it perfectly. Definitely one of the best of the night.

  20. Louise April 14, 2014 at 11:59 #

  21. amy April 14, 2014 at 12:21 #

makeup and hair are next level. she looks gorgeous

  22. Dean April 14, 2014 at 12:42 #

Didn’t like it on the red carpet, but I love it on her. Love the addition of the cerulean blue pumps.

    • Dean April 14, 2014 at 12:43 #

      runway*

    • Ahot April 14, 2014 at 14:12 #

ITA, isn´t it amazing, when the right personality can sell you an otherwise awful style?! I WANT everything that she is wearing. Her body is tight & the HURR is her most successful experiment yet; she makes me want to cut mine allover again. *chanting I must resist the call of scissors* lol

  23. justme April 14, 2014 at 14:07 #

And she’s back! I love it from h2t.

  24. Ahot April 14, 2014 at 14:14 #

BTW FC, your favs of this week are outstanding choices, better than ever. That´s one category on your blog that should never die, please… .
The Webster heels are dreamy. Your eye for details is simply amazing.

  25. dee April 14, 2014 at 14:21 #

Love this from h2t. BDOTY worthy for me.

  26. Lara April 14, 2014 at 14:24 #

This is one of those times when I came to read the comments, expecting them all to be of the same train of thought as mine… only to find the opposite! I HATE this look! ALL of it! And I love Lupita, and think she works colour like no other. Not here. Not this. That is all.

  27. Pedro April 14, 2014 at 14:32 #

    She looks amazing!

    I looooove the dress!

  28. Rebecca Z April 14, 2014 at 15:00 #

Another home run. She looks amazing. What a great dress when you strip away all that silly runway styling. She is a goddess.

  29. Dhppy April 14, 2014 at 21:13 #

This just made my BDOTY list.

Kudos to Chanel for once again scaring me on the runway with something that looks hideous, only to completely turn my head on the red carpet. No other designer keeps doing this to me. For example, when I hate Prada on the runway, I hate it everywhere.

And of course, Nyong’o magic strikes again. The hair in particular is stunning. I want to know exactly what she did. The makeup is flawless. I love the earrings. The shoes are unexpected yet perfect. It’s risky, and bright and colorful, yet she makes it seem like a classic.

I am just over the moon!

  30. anjos April 15, 2014 at 01:00 #

    Everybody else go home.

  31. Markness April 16, 2014 at 02:40 #

I guess I’m in the minority here. But I find this look event inappropriate. The event felt like it should be casual elegance. This is a bit too constricting. Especially that turtleneck part. She should’ve worn this somewhere else.

    • Mrs. A April 16, 2014 at 08:53 #

I actually loved the look but I can see your point.
