Kristen Wiig In J. Mendel – ‘Hateship Loveship’ New York Screening

Kristen Wiig In J Mendel - 'Hateship Loveship' New York Screening

Kristen Wiig attended the ‘Hateship Loveship’ screening held at the Museum of Modern Art on Tuesday (April 8) in New York City.

Known for her love of all things minimalist, usually of the Balenciaga variety, I was somewhat taken aback by this colour-block asymmetrical choice from J. Mendel.

I can picture this sleeveless Fall 2014 dress – which features a solid leather mock neck and front panel at the bodice, a solid leather waistband and a draped asymmetric wrap-front skirt – on Chloe Sevigny, Cate Blanchett, Jennifer Connelly and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley without the second layer of the skirt, but Kristen, who has worked an edgy look or two in her time, doesn’t sell it to me. Not one bit, and it’s got nothing to do with the safe Alejandro Ingelmo ‘Tron’pumps.

Rather, it’s because it feels so disingenuous and so far removed from her usual style – not that I don’t appreciate her stepping out of her comfort zone.

I love her and the dress, but not her in the dress.
