Kristen Wiig In J. Mendel – ‘Hateship Loveship’ New York Screening

Kristen Wiig In J Mendel - 'Hateship Loveship' New York Screening

Kristen Wiig attended the ‘Hateship Loveship’ screening held at the Museum of Modern Art on Tuesday (April 8) in New York City.

Known for her love of all things minimalist, usually of the Balenciaga variety, I was somewhat taken aback by this colour-block asymmetrical choice from J. Mendel.

I can picture this sleeveless Fall 2014 dress – which features a solid leather mock neck and front panel at the bodice, a solid leather waistband and a draped asymmetric wrap-front skirt – on Chloe Sevigny, Cate Blanchett, Jennifer Connelly and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley without the second layer of the skirt, but Kristen, who has worked an edgy look or two in her time, doesn’t sell it to me. Not one bit, and it’s got nothing to do with the safe Alejandro Ingelmo ‘Tron’pumps.

Rather, it’s because it feels so disingenuous and so far removed from her usual style – not that I don’t appreciate her stepping out of her comfort zone.

I love her and the dress, but not her in the dress.

Totally agreed! Love the dress and the whole concept of the look but its not working on Kristen sadly

I like it better with the jacket on

I like the dress! Sure it’s super unexpected but I think she pulls it off quite well. What she’s not pulling off is the makeup and the hair. The lipstick is too much the eyes are too little and the hair is boring.

      Agreed.

I think I just don’t like the dress before I even get to the question of whether it works on her. Plus, she looks uncomfortable, but then, she often does in these situations.

Not everyone can carry off blonde hair and she is one of them. I like the dress but her styling isn’t doing it any service.

the dress could have done without the leather panel. anyway Kristen’s stylist needs to stop putting her in those type of dresses cause she always ends up looking uncomfortable.
    A for the effort though.

I don’t hate this. I actually think it’s better than what she usually wears but the same problem still exists. The clothes always wear her. It never looks like she is enjoying what she has on which makes the whole outfit fail. I am also not a fan of the new hair.

I highly disagree. I Think she looks amazing. Nothing wrong in doing something very different….

My main problem with this is that she seems uncomfortable in the dress. She’s not working it. The fit of the bodice seems a bit off, but I actually like the dress. She just doesn’t seem to be feeling it and it shows.

I really like it, the only thing I would change would be shoes. Maybe something cut-out with chunky heel. She looks good!

I agree that she is not selling this look. On the model, this dress flows. I wonder if the blonde hair is part of the problem. It adds just one more element to an already busy look.
