Lily Allen In Pauline Trigere from WilliamVintage – City Rocks At the Royal Albert Hall

Lily Allen In Pauline Trigere from WilliamVintage - City Rocks At the Royal Albert Hall

When Lily Allen dropped her single and video ‘Hard Out Here’, which satirizes both the twerking epidemic and the sexy-women-as-props aesthetic of Robin Thicke, it caused a lot of controversy.

So it is somewhat ironic that the British singer flashed a generous amount of side boob while rocking a sheer nude-coloured beaded ’60s Pauline Trigere from WilliamVintage top that clearly showed off her pasties while performing during City Rocks (a concert for the UK’s oldest children’s charity, Coram) at the Royal Albert Hall in London on Tuesday (April 1).

The top was styled with wide-legged black trousers, a selection of silver jewels and a braided updo.

Is this a classic case of ‘people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones?’

No, if ever there was one.

    Satire fail?

Ridiculous and not in a good way

  3. Scott April 2, 2014 at 18:10 #

That’s some flawed logic right there.

Satirizing the male gaze and objectification of women in media doesn’t preclude Lily from doing whatever she wants with her own body, including flashing as much or little side boob as she decides she feels comfortable with. That said, this look isn’t great.

I’m really tired of women being called hypocrites/faux feminists if they dare to own their own bodies. Come on.

Couldn’t agree more with both of you.

      • justme April 2, 2014 at 22:54 #

That’s not the issue though. What makes Lily an hypocrite is when she puts down other women for being sexy then turn around and do the same thing the minute she feels good about her body.

It makes her look insecure imo.

      Agreed.

It always baffles me how social justice bloggers end up here. do they get lost on their way to tumblr?

Satirizing the male gaze and objectification of women in media one day, then pandering to the same male population a few weeks later by saying stuff like “I think women are the enemy” and “every man I speak to always says they find skinny women gross”.

Yeah, I wouldn’t be so quick to defend Lily. She’s an inconsistent hypocrite and I’m being polite lol.

I think a little side boob in the name of fashion and what she addressed in her song are few and far between. No comparison imo. With that said I don’t care for the look.

Hate it. Also, very inappropriate for a children’s charity concert.

  8. CreoleLady April 2, 2014 at 22:51 #

A children’s charity? Perhaps there were no children there. Even without Allen’s social commentary via song I would have found this look tasteless. With it, yeah, glass houses indeed. Oh, my bad, I guess she doesn’t consider herself a prop as she flashes her pasties. Whatever. Girl power! *eye roll*
