I agree with most of it but Cate is third on my best dressed list, after Lupita and Kate Hudson. I didn’t get the hoopla over Emma Watson, I thought she was pretty boring and she can do better.

  2. Alina March 6, 2014 at 09:10 #

Surprised to see Cate was your favourite. I agree with the rest of your awards.

  3. Alex March 6, 2014 at 09:30 #

    You picked Cate! I’m ecstatic!

  4. Colleen March 6, 2014 at 09:32 #

Elsa’s dress is gorgeous, but I’d love to have seen her swap it with Angelina, whilst Angie’s dress be worn by Elsa. Maybe I’m wrong, but I saw this on the runway and it was amazing, too bad people think it’s hideous coz a heavily pregnant woman wore it.

    • Desiree March 6, 2014 at 10:38 #

Agree, the dress Elsa wore was gorgeous on the runway; but she didn’t pull it off well. Kristen Bell wore a Jenny Packham dress at last years Oscars, while pregnant; and she looked very elegant. Elsa should have done the same, IMO.

  5. sharizal_samah March 6, 2014 at 09:32 #

I just think Charlize looks stunning for someone who was coming to just wanna have fun

but I agree that Emma was the most dissapointing. maybe she wanna be the cool kid but it didnt happen

    • alex March 6, 2014 at 09:54 #

Agree!I think the least thing Charlize wanted to do was to outshine all the nominees. She was just a presenter, and she looks stunning.

      • Magdalena March 6, 2014 at 19:03 #

I agree, it’s a solid look for ‘just’ a presenter, but then again Kate Hudson was also only there to present an award and she was one of the best dressed.

  6. Maria Rothmar March 6, 2014 at 09:44 #

If only Elsa’s dress had some definition under the bust, instead of under her bump! Imagine how beautiful it would have been. I applaud her for choosing something blingy, dressy and colorful to show off her pregnancy, but as presented, her boobs and bump just looked like one huge, shapeless blob. I absolutely adored Cate Blanchett’s dipped-in-diamonds look, and Lupita reminded me of a black Cinderella straight out of a fairytale. By far my two favourites of the night!

  7. Maria Rothmar March 6, 2014 at 09:48 #

Oh, and thank you so much FC, for your exceptional-as-ever coverage of the entire awards season! I actually work at a woman’s magazine as a beauty editor, but I’ve learnt more about fashion by following your blog, than I have in my seven years in the magazine industry!

    • Catherine Kallon March 6, 2014 at 18:42 #

      Aw…thank you…that is a major compliment, I’m touched.

      x

      • Caitlin March 7, 2014 at 01:36 #

So true Maria, I have learnt most of my fashion knowledge from FC. For example, what “lantern sleeves” are :)

  8. scarlett March 6, 2014 at 10:36 #

I feel for Elsa, that’s not just a baby bump, that’s a twins baby bump, and it might not have been perfect but actually I kind of love that she went for something fitted.

As for Charlize she was a presenter, not a nominee, but she looked stunning, it’s better than some of her past efforts!

  9. Koma March 6, 2014 at 10:38 #

I’m surprised to see Cate as your best dressed, for me she looked pretty but not memorable. Kate and Camilla wer my favorites!

  10. Martin March 6, 2014 at 10:52 #

Totally agree with your choice of Cate as Best Dressed. There was something so completely effortless and natural and timeless about how she wore that Armani Prive gown – like it was conceived and made for her and only her.

And the more I looked at the gown itself, the more perfect it became – the clusters of embellishment, the delicacy of the fabric, the bundles of volume in the skirt as she walked. For her, it was a perfect night in a perfect dress.

    • Fiona-Brasil March 6, 2014 at 11:52 #

      +1

  11. Yeliz March 6, 2014 at 10:58 #

Cate did look look gorgeous, but I don’t think I’ll remember her look at the end of the year. I agree with the rest of the awards, except for best male.

    • Dean March 6, 2014 at 13:22 #

I think there’s a strong bias towards Cate and that her dress, although nice, is forgettable. I think Lupita was stunning. Agree with everything else!

  12. nthirank March 6, 2014 at 10:59 #

aww I wish Jenna’s reem acra gown was in this list, i agree with your other pic, Charlize was a huge disappointment.

    • Southern Cross March 6, 2014 at 23:49 #

Yes, +1. I thought Jenna looked gorgeous.

  13. Joy March 6, 2014 at 11:02 #

I’ve been dying for your list to come out! I love it! Agree 100%

I literally got goosebumps when I saw Pink, it was a game changer for all the dresses I’d seen earlier on the red carpet. Cate was perfection. Because it was her, I expected more, but the Armani dress was breathtaking. I couldn’t get on board with Lupita, it just wasn’t what I was hoping for. But she was definitely the one I was rooting for all award season. She was the bell of the ball. I loved Camilla, she was one of my favs. And Kate Hudson is just wicked!!

    Another great list FC!

  14. Valissa March 6, 2014 at 11:39 #

I agree with a your choices except for Charlize and Pink.

I’m still shocked at all the hate Charlize got for that gown from everyone and everywhere. I thought she looked amazing!

And I hated Pink in that dress. I don’t think it suits her image and persona…

    • Mary Gatto March 6, 2014 at 15:53 #

      + 1000!!!!

  15. Lee Ann March 6, 2014 at 12:29 #

THE OMG award was perfect. Charkise would make a chewing gum wrapper look beautiful if she wore it. i think the trouble with her gown is it is difficult to see the details in pictures. Having said that the lucite straps did her no favours. Made her shoulders look like very wide

  16. Sharon @ Red Poppy | Pink Peony March 6, 2014 at 12:30 #

I agree with your picks, but would switch Cate B. with Kate H. Loved Camila Alves’ look! And Jennifer Lawrence looked beautiful, too.

  17. anjos March 6, 2014 at 13:08 #

Completely agreed with the last two.

I was quite underwhelmed by the Oscars red carpet this year tbh. I actually voted for Pink in the poll. That’s saying a lot.

  18. dee March 6, 2014 at 13:21 #

Camilla is my best dressed, then Cate and then Amy.

  19. Mariet March 6, 2014 at 13:21 #

Kate Hudson was the best dressed so far!

  20. Larissa March 6, 2014 at 14:18 #

Even if I’m her biggest fan you took the words right out of my mouth about Lupita, she looked amazing but I guess I was expecting something more from her after her amazing award season run. I also totally agree about Kate and Cate being best dressed of the night.

  21. Katey March 6, 2014 at 14:34 #

I disagree. My best dressed is Lupita so far altought I didn’t like her previous choices like you did. My #2 is Sandra. Her Mcqueen gown was perfect.

I don’t like Cate Blanchett in that dress. It’s just too nude for me and not looks special.

I think Emma’s choice was interesting and I love it.

  22. VirginiafromAmsterdam March 6, 2014 at 16:31 #

Wow! I’m so surprised that you dislike Charlizes dress so much. Ok maybe not your best dressed award, I could understand that. But she does look so regal and classic. And that black with her short blond hair, beautiful. Don’t you think?

    • Nat39 March 6, 2014 at 20:38 #

I also don’t think that Charlize was that bad despite the illusion straps. The gown suits her to perfection and that necklace is amazing. Sexy and fabulous, she owned that look. Looking back now, I’d take her over Cate and Lupita.

      • Nat39 March 6, 2014 at 21:12 #

…well, at least over Cate, in a heartbeat.

  23. Nat39 March 6, 2014 at 16:36 #

It feels like Oscars are getting more and more disappointing each year. Didn’t like Cate at all. I don’t mind a gorgeous nude gown, they can be quite spectacular too, but it wasn’t one of them, not a particularly beautiful gown to begin with, very one-note, hardly an exciting or memorable standout.
The design of Lupita’s gown left me underwhelmed, it was very basic. Even though voted for her, as the gown was beautifully made, couldn’t help but feel disappointed.

Kate Hudson was a knockout (no complaints there, from the exciting gown to the divine hair and makeup and commanding presence – she was flawless and spectacular) and I adored Camila.

  24. mm March 6, 2014 at 16:41 #

I agree with this list. LOL at that baby bump on display that way. That award couldve been”dump your friends for allowing you to leave home in that dress”. Great coverage as usual FC. What did you wear to the essence event in hollywood?

    • Catherine Kallon March 6, 2014 at 18:27 #

thank you…I wore a navy and white gingham blouse with navy culottes

  25. Joy March 6, 2014 at 16:49 #

This is a great roundup. I agree 100%.

My overall fav was Pink, I literally got goosebumps when I saw her perform. She was so AMAZING in the Elie Saab. Cate was perfection. At first I expected more, but this was an amazing dress and she wore it like nobody else could. Camilla was another absolute fav for me. I just loved her in that dress. I wasn’t feeling Lupita this time around, she was the one I was most excited to see on Oscar night. And of course, Kate Hudson was wicked!

I’m sad the award season is over. Thank you FC for all you do to make fashion so darn fun!

    • Catherine Kallon March 6, 2014 at 18:26 #

My pleasure…it is a lot of work, but fun, even more so when you guys appreciate it.

      • Joy March 6, 2014 at 22:19 #

I guess I was so excited, I posted twice! Sorry

  26. Kate March 6, 2014 at 17:06 #

Am I the only one who didn’t particularly like Kate Hudson’s look? I just can’t get past the shoulder pads…

The top of Charlize’s bodice should’ve been pointed instead of looking awkwardly cut off, and Emma disappointed me so much :(

LOVE Lupita and Cate and Camila and Pink!

  27. nomorsnow March 6, 2014 at 17:12 #

I am shocked about Charlize. In my opinion, she looked divine. I can’t see how that dress could be a disapointment, I liked it better then what she wore last year and not many people could put on a basic black dress and look like THAT. I thought she was one of the best dressed.

Anna Kendrick got worst dressed on Fashion police but I didn’t think her dress was bad either. I did not like Penelope Cruz or Adina Menzel’s dresses and I thought there was to much fabric with Camilla Alvarez. Lupita was my favorite, Cate Blanchet always looks perfect and I actually really liked Gulianna Rancic’s dress.
    ‘t

    • Nat39 March 6, 2014 at 21:48 #

I also prefer this gown on Charlize than her last year’s look. She is rather broad in the chest/shoulders and her last year’s white strapless gown accented it badly. This gown with its neckline works perfectly for her frame, giving her an impressive silhouette. Yes, the illusion straps were a flaw, but it wasn’t a bad look for her. Simple, nothing too much for a presenter, yet dramatic enough for the event.

  28. noo March 6, 2014 at 17:46 #

I think now that raf simmons is drowning dior, charlize theron should maybe be bffs with another brand!!!!!

  29. EmmaWoodhouse March 6, 2014 at 18:02 #

Yay for picking Cate!!! She was my favorite as well :D
Also loved Camilla and and Chrissy :)
I actually liked Emma’s dress, but I totally agree about Charlize and Elsa.
Thanks again for the great coverage, FC! You are an idol! :D

    • EmmaWoodhouse March 6, 2014 at 18:07 #

Also wondering, what was your favorite Lupita look this awards season, FC? Mine was her Gucci at the SAGs. Magnificent!

      • Catherine Kallon March 6, 2014 at 18:24 #

Ralph Lauren or Calvin Klein…I change my mind all the time :D

    • Catherine Kallon March 6, 2014 at 18:24 #

you are lovely, thank you x

  30. nthirank March 6, 2014 at 18:10 #

    i miss thandie newton LOL

  31. Hilary March 6, 2014 at 18:21 #

I am on board with you selections for the ladies but I cannot agree with your best dressed male award. Ugh, the shoes…they are just not attractive. There were many other better dressed males so I’m disappointed by your choice here.

  32. vanillarose March 6, 2014 at 18:35 #

I thought Cate looked fantastic, but I chose Kate (Hudson!) for best dressed eventually – she looked completely stunning. I don’t hate Elsa’s look, it must be hard dressing a baby bump for twins. If she weren’t pregnant, I think a lot more people would say that she looked good.

  33. H March 6, 2014 at 19:01 #

Guys, Emma was also a presenter but is the Oscar’s, which mean GO BIG OR GO HOME! I actually liked Emma, I don’t think she is trying to be a cool kid or anything, physically, she is utterly gorgeous but what I have seen from her as her personality, is just something I love and I think, overall, she is one of my favorite people in Hollywood, London or wherever you want. Charlize looked regal, Chrissy was beautiful and Lupita, Sandra and everyone… But Cate is the word perfection in one person!

By the way, Camilla is who I voted for and she was stunning, she looked like a winner!

  34. Jessica March 6, 2014 at 20:17 #

I’m so glad you think that Elsa’s look was pretty bad, too. It was not flattering on a bump that large. If it was an empire waist, maybe it could have worked, but I definitely do not think she should have worn that dress.

  35. pipsqueak March 6, 2014 at 20:46 #

The OMG Award is funny. Agreed that Elsa looked bad and borderline inappropriate. I loved Charlize’s look, my number 3 actually. I always think Emma Watson is overrated – her acting is inhibited and self-aware, her public persona is bland (still better than Sienna Mess, though) and she hasn’t shown us what she can bring to the table, as compared to other English roses on the red carpet or the award circuit. #noidentity

  36. alvaro_spain March 6, 2014 at 21:36 #

Disappointed about Charlize’s dress?? OMG pleaseeee…!! She’s one of my favourites! Can’t believe it! :O

  37. Marybeth March 6, 2014 at 21:58 #

    A great round-up!

I can easily see how you might pick Michael B. Jordan as Best Dressed Man. From the ankles up, I would have too. The shoes were just a bit much for conservative me, although I’ll admit they are kind of cool!

  38. Kimmy March 7, 2014 at 00:32 #

Yes! I was crossing my fingers for Cate Blanchett. She’s still my queen. I love Lupita, but this isn’t her best for the awards season, maybe 3rd.

I would’ve picked one either Jared Leto or Matthew McConaughey for best dressed, the while suit really stands out.

  39. msd March 7, 2014 at 00:55 #

Just thought I should mention that google no longer seems to find your site – it no longer comes up when you search for “rcfa”, or for “red carpet fashion”. Even searching for the full site name doesn’t arrive at the front page. Very odd. It’s been like this for a couple of days.

    • VirginiafromAmsterdam March 7, 2014 at 21:01 #

Yes I had the same thing! I was a little bit in panic! But lukely you are still here!

  40. Markness March 7, 2014 at 02:36 #

Love Cate Blanchett! #suckit LOL! I don’t like Elsa Pataky’s dress. She could’ve worn a dress like Kate Hudson’s Versace dress at the Something Borrowed Premiere. It’s just not flattering. But then again, she comes home getting smashed with Thor’s hammer so she’s laughing her ass off our comments.

  41. Catherine March 7, 2014 at 03:55 #

Cate Blanchett and Lupita Nyong’o win co-Best Dressed in my opinion, with honorable mentions to Kate Hudson, Anne Hathaway, Penelope Cruz, Sandra Bullock, and Jessica Biel. Cate and Lupita are just so feminine, elegant, and breathtaking. Overall, a very successful and well-dressed event, and Ellen was fabulous!

  42. Catherine March 7, 2014 at 04:00 #

Thank you again for your wonderful coverage, FC…you do fantastic work every awards season (and all year for that matter), and I absolutely love your site!

    • Catherine Kallon March 7, 2014 at 05:54 #

      thank you soooo much xxx

Already looking forward to the Met Gala and Cannes ;)

  43. Leela March 7, 2014 at 04:29 #

I think Kate Husdson was 100x more memorable than Cate Blanchett. I wish Pink wore that dress on the red carpet.

Also I feel sorry for Elsa because it must be really hard dressing up a huge baby bump but that dress just wasn’t made for it.

  44. lin March 7, 2014 at 08:38 #

Can’t agree with you as far as Emma and Charlize are concerned, thought they both looked very chic. Agree with most of your other observations. Thanks for all your hard work over the awards season – always look forward to your comments.

  45. Tarfah March 9, 2014 at 19:41 #

I disagree with Emma Watson. I’m so in love with her simple look. SO CHIC!
