Sally Hawkins In Valentino – Oscars 2014

Sally Hawkins took to the red carpet on Sunday, March 2 in Los Angeles for the 2014 Oscars.

The Best Actress in a Supporting Role nominee for ‘Blue Jasmine’, was one of the many stars who opted for a pale, embroidered dress, in this case Valentino Couture Fall 2013.

The workmanship on this dress is just incredible from the cream and gold embroidery to the pearl waist detail. It’s a true work of art. However, the dress overwhelms Sally’s petite figure. It appears to have not been altered to her frame properly when compared to the runway image. The dress is too long in both the sleeves and hem and the waist is sitting too low.

With a high-necked dress this ornate I generally like to see hair swept up but that bothers me far less than the fact that it’s simply too big. On a taller actress this could have been a winner.

    That gown is swallowing her!

The dress seems to be too big for her.

I actually like this, it was one of my favorites of the night. I like that she wore something different, it seemed everyone looked exactly the same.

I think it’s a bit overwhelming. Maybe an updo would have helped.

Totally agreed this was too much dress for her tiny figure. In the sleeves alone she looks like she’s wearing her mothers dress. It’s a shame because this dress is worthy of a great moment.

Way too much fabric went into this. Too bad.

Gorgeous dress but wasted on Sally. I agree, a taller actress should have worn this.

this is a better shot than the first I saw which looked like a Nana’s attic find. Agree with all, totally overwhelming her.

I’m dying to know where Pink’s dress is from. Do you know anything about it?

I know there are different bloggers writing the posts tonight but does that mean the selection of photos are done independently, too? I noticed that many of the Oscar post photos don’t show the dresses/actresses in the best possible way, sometimes even showing poor angles and facial expressions.

The beading is amazing on the dress but she looks 10 inches shorter than I think she actually is which is quite a feat.

    Definitely overwhelming.

    Totally overwhelming.
