Elsa Pataky In Elie Saab – Oscars 2014

A very pregnant Elsa Pataky was glowing at the 2014 Oscars on Sunday, March 2 at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre.

The actress and model, who is roughly seven months into carrying Chris Hemsworth’s twins, wore a sparkling Elie Saab number with earrings by Graziela Gems and a bracelet by Dana Rebecca Designs.

This was a less common silhouette than we see on most pregnant stars who generally either loosely drape the baby bump, often with an empire waistline, or go with a fitted sheath. Elsa’s drop waist gives the gown a cool, bohemian vibe but it hides her bustline making the shape feel a bit off.

Relaxed hair and make-up complement the feel of the dress and the earrings are a perfect accent but I struggle to fully embrace the dress without some definition under the bust.

How do you feel about this silhouette?

Sadly this silhouette does nothing for her heavily pregnant body. I like the colour and that’s it.

    No

I love pregnant bellies, and definitely think they should be celebrated on the red carpet.. but this unfortunately looks like an eyeball or something similar…

This is so awkward. She looks like a very glamorous watermelon.

      +1. AWFUL.

ITA!!! I saw a side view of this get up and it was horrible. The weight of the dress over her belly was giving her major flattened sideboob. And she looked like she was about to head off to the hospital any minute. It was not a good look.

+2 and LOL by the way

LOL glam watermelon. This is the worst pregnancy red carpet look EVER.

Worst pregnancy red carpet look ever without a doubt.

I honestly don’t know how I feel about this silhouette. It looks like a baby bump lifter. I can say however, I do love the color and the intricacy of the beading.

  6. Cindy March 3, 2014 at 03:14 #

Sadly, this is just awful! I mean AWFUL!

  7. paulyne March 3, 2014 at 03:22 #

I kinda like it. I like the colour, the gown in itself but i don’t like the silhouette.
However, she looks beautiful and she seems to have fun! I love that even pregnant she doesn’t stick to the classics even if this is not what i expected.
FC, I think this is a Fall 2012 Couture gown.
Your coverage is on point! Thank you for posting so fast! YOU’RE THE BEST!

How unfortunate. The undefined curve over her bust and belly makes her look positively bulbous. Pregnancy bumps are beautiful, but this is just not flattering at all.

I had been having a really hard time finding my “worst dressed” or even some that I didn’t think looked great– I definitely found it here. It’s unfortunate because the dress is gorgeous but FC hit it right on the head that the shape is way off!

This is probably the worst pregnant outfit of the history together with Charlotte Gainsbourg at Cannes Film Festival. This is really awful and unflattering.

  11. Lauren March 3, 2014 at 03:47 #

Her face is flawless and she is so tiny but the silhouette is a no.

+3 – flawless is definitely the word, I think her hair is great as well.

        +4

  12. Moxie March 3, 2014 at 03:49 #

    This is not flattering.

  13. amy March 3, 2014 at 04:34 #

this is bad. pregnant look prefer empire waistlines for a reason. it’s flattering. this dress isn’t. it looks like her belly is about to drop on the floor. too bad cause she’s gorgeous

  14. Laurie March 3, 2014 at 05:07 #

What a terrible dress on a beautiful woman.

  15. Nat39 March 3, 2014 at 05:09 #

This is NOT the way to present your baby bump. One of the worst maternity looks ever.

  16. kelly March 3, 2014 at 05:59 #

worst dressed, by far. one of the worst maternity looks we’ve seen in a long time.

    • carla March 3, 2014 at 06:46 #

      agree!

    • carla March 3, 2014 at 06:46 #

      agree!

  17. lin March 3, 2014 at 08:29 #

This is a bad maternity dress. Much preferred Kerry Washington’s look.

  18. kane March 3, 2014 at 10:07 #

The colour is gorgeous but there is a reason why pregnant ladies don’t go for this silhouette and this look is a perfect example for it.

  19. Betelgeuze March 3, 2014 at 13:47 #

This is exactly how you should NOT do a pregnancy gown. Had her belly been smaller it would maybe look a little less awkward, but as it is the dress looks awkward and stretched and overall a bad choice for the expecting beauty.

  20. EmmaWoodhouse March 3, 2014 at 13:58 #

Very happy for her and Chris, and pregnant bellies are wonderful, but this is VERY unfortunate.

  21. justme March 3, 2014 at 14:26 #

Pregnancy suits her, she is glowing and her face is freaking stunning.

But that dress? Oye. She is expecting twins so her belly is big. The drop waist makes it look even bigger.

  22. Anne Gallagher March 3, 2014 at 16:53 #

I hate to be critical of an expectant mother, but damn! This is just such an unfortunate choice.

  23. Dawn March 3, 2014 at 17:33 #

They are her Twins as well. Just a note on that.

  24. Joy March 3, 2014 at 17:47 #

I hate to pick on someone with child, but this is my worst of the night. She looks beautiful, I feel like she’s a victim of a bad idea. That silhouette could not have been more unflattering. The color is gorgeous on her, it is a real shame this could have been so great.

  25. Ziggy March 3, 2014 at 21:45 #

I don’t like to bash Elsa because she’s carrying a life inside her but man, the dress is horrible! She looks like she she does he have boobs at all. And I don’t like the nude lining because it makes the bump exposed in a bad way. On a positive note, I think the color and the fabric looks great on her and if she opted for a more classical maternity cut, she would have looked miles better.

  26. zoe March 3, 2014 at 23:27 #

OMG, this picture genuinely scared me. definitely looks like an alien is about to bust out of her or that she has a strange and unfortunate disease. this could have been beautiful if it was empire waisted or had a drape detail and didn’t cup directly under her stomach. come on…who told her that this was ok?! her makeup and hair is absolutely beautiful so I am sad the silhouette of her dress had to be so devastating.

  27. Beatriz March 6, 2014 at 10:00 #

I think she looks beautiful, the dress it’s beautiful too and I think she just tried to show her baby-bump in another way, I think she did a great job and it’s a beautiful way to show her pregnancy!
