Film Independent Spirit Awards 2014 Menswear Roundup

Film Independent Spirit Awards 2014 Menswear Roundup 1With a myriad of menswear looks on the blue carpet, the guys mostly nixed the standard black suit in favour of more colourful options at the 2014 Film Independent Spirit Awards at Santa Monica Beach in Santa Monica, California yesterday (March 1). Not that I was complaining.

Matthew McConaughey: Taking his flashy jackets to another level, the ‘Dallas Buyers Club’ actor and Best Male Lead winner wore an allover metallic bronze three-piece suite by Dolce & Gabbana. Skipping the tie, an unbuttoned black button-down shirt had nothing on those attention-grabbing, cobalt-blue Tod’s shoes. Do you like the razzle-dazzle here?

Jared Leto: Like Matthew, Jared picked up a win for his work in ‘Dallas Buyers Club.’ The actor-musician was dressed in his standard rocker-grunge edge wearing separates including a black leather biker Balmian Homme jacket and black skinny jeans. Of course, a shirt was tied around his waist—this time, a red plaid Saint Laurent one—and he topped off the look with a black-and-white striped scarf and black Giuseppe Zanotti combat boots.

Michael B Jordan: The always-sharp dresser didn’t disappoint in his cream-coloured Dolce & Gabbana suit, paired with a quirky printed button-down shirt, a black pocket square, black brogues and a rose-gold Piaget watch. The ‘Fruitvale Station’ actor always manages to combine sartorial polish with a punch of attitude.

Film Independent Spirit Awards 2014 Menswear Roundup 2Jeremy Renner: The ‘American Hustle’ actor wore head-to-toe Salvatore Ferragamo, looking sleek in a midnight-navy suit, black shirt and black satin tie. I like the dimensionality that the mix of blue and black hues provides here.

Forest Whitaker: Taking a stand in light lavender, the ‘Fruitvale Station’ star wore Hugo Boss Collection, teaming his lilac blazer with a black sweater vest, black trousers and a royal-purple tie. His Christian Louboutin ‘Rantus’ black-and-grey tartan high-top sneakers added a funky touch of flair to the ensemble—and may tie with Matthew’s as the most creative shoe choice of the night.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt: Nominated for Best First Screenplay for ‘Don Jon,’ Joseph was handsome in a Salvatore Ferragamo hand-made Special Edition navy pinstripe suit, matched to a printed red-and-blue tie and Ferragamo ‘Tramezza’ dark brown and tan leather lace-up shoes.
