Gillian Anderson In Vintage Balmain Couture – 2014 BAFTAs

Gillian Anderson In Vintage Balmain Couture - 2014 BAFTAsGillian Anderson took to the red carpet at the 2014 BAFTAs, hosted Sunday (February 16) at The Royal Opera House in London, England.

The actress selected a vintage 1949 Balmain haute couture gown from WilliamVintage.

Colour-blocked in shades of blue, the strapless dress featured a tiered bodice, which tied in the back with scarf-like panels that floated to the bottom of the navy ball skirt.

In keeping with the blue theme, she wore matching gemstone and diamond necklace and earrings.

Even so, something seemed to be missing here. Perhaps a statement lip lacquer, or a different ‘do, would have made all the difference.

I agree – something’s missing. I won’t remember this by the end of the night.

Not the most exciting of looks but wow, she is one beautiful woman!

I’m mostly excited just to see this vintage piece being worn. It’s nice but I think it needed different accessories, much like the need for a bolder lip or something. This shouldn’t look so plain.

I thought she was Emma Thompson!

On the one hand, hooray for vintage, on the other, it’s a shame it’s not tea length or something else that screams 1949. When I saw it, my first thought was “does this fit?” it seems too large for her overall. The calculated messy hair also doesn’t work with a vintage look.

This is nice enough in the front with the colors but I really dislike the busy-ness in the back with the bustle.

A tight gemstone collar, at least one inch wide, and no earrings would have made this work.

The only thing missing is Duchovny next to her.

I thought she was JK Rowling at first. But she looks lovely.
