Taylor Swift In Alberta Ferretti – 2014 Grammy Awards Performance

Taylor Swift In Alberta Ferretti - 2014 Grammy Awards Performance

Like Katy Perry, Taylor Swift also did a quick change from her Gucci arrivals look for her performance on stage at the 2014 Grammy Awards on Sunday (January 26).

Taylor’s second look was a Demi-Couture dress from Alberta Ferretti’s Pre-Fall 2013 collection.

The grey chiffon gown – featuring cascading layered ruffles on the skirt, embellishments (naturally) in the form of a diamanté bodice, and a bejewelled shoulder detail – looked ethereal as it flowed around her while she was seated at the piano.

Still staying away from her signature red lip, she complemented the look with pink lips, shimmering eye makeup and Cathy Waterman platinum-and-diamond lace-edged earrings.

Better than her RC look, if you ask me.

I think so too. She looks drop dead gorgeous here. My only complaint is the shoes. I wish they somehow matched the fabulous embellished bodice.

    On stage it was gorgeous

    Old and boring.

Not keen on the dress, but certainly good use of lighting on stage.

I’m not, per say, normally awestruck.., but this dress was utterly stunning! It looked exquisite on her. Great pic head to toe.

I think this was beautiful when she was on stage at the piano.

Pretty dress though a little wood nymph like. Terrible performance.

What a lovely look! I wish she would pick more dresses like this. The soft draping looks beautiful on her willowy frame. Seems like it should be right down her style alley too.

I preferred her red carpet look but this is very ethereal and suited the performance

She does look lovely but nothing new and exciting again. I prefer her red carpet look.

Perfect dress for the performance, I love how she had it hanging off the back of the stage. She looked and sounded incredible.

Love it! Prefer this dress to the RC, but if only her hair was up. Her hair down ages her somehow. Maybe it’s just this one photo, but I’m getting a Celine DIon vibe??

for those with more fashion know-how, what’s the difference between demi couture and plain old haute couture?

    • Jess2 January 29, 2014 at 10:31 #

      Hi June,

My understanding is that the term ‘haute’ couture is reserved strictly for couture pieces custom made in Paris, France. Much like sparkling wine is only called Champagne if it is from France. And it is quite strictly regulated.
A demi-couture gown is a gown that is custom made like a couture piece but is actually part of a ready-to-wear collection or is associated with ready-to-wear. I think any piece made like this can be ‘demi’ and the description of it is not influenced by the location of where it was made. I am not completely sure about this but Alberta Ferretti is an Italian brand and Matthew Williamson (England) and Mary Kartantzou (Greece) have demi-couture pieces.

For those more in the know, please feel free to correct me. June, I hope this helps x
