Julie Bowen In Carolina Herrera – 2014 SAG Awards

Julie Bowen In Carolina Herrera - 2014 SAG Awards

Julie Bowen mixed it up on the red carpet Saturday evening (January 18) in Los Angeles at the 2014 SAG Awards.

The ‘Modern Family’ actress, who isn’t known for being sartorially adventurous, made one of her boldest choices to date in a dress from Carolina Herrera Spring 2014 and dramatic drop earrings. She finished the look off with a Rauwolf clutch and Jerome C. Rousseau shoes.

The burnt orange, brown and white dress featured a color-blocked bodice and graphic skirt. Everything about the dress from the color combination to the graphic is unusual yet it somehow all works.

A Brigitte Bardot-inspired ponytail was another fashion-forward choice executed to perfection.

It’s exciting to see Julie having fun with fashion and even more exciting to see her pull it off.

+1 The top part looks weird to me.

Oh I really dislike this FC. I’ve completely lost Julie. The bodice looks awkward too.

I like the idea of the dress, but it just does not look good on Julie, unfortunately. It’s especially unflattering in the waist area, as it gives her none. If it had nipped in quite a bit more, it would really help this look. There also appears to be something on the bodice, which I figured was just the picture, but it is in all of them. Her Globes look was way better.

I love this dress on julie. the structure is interesting. I lov the macthy-matchy accesories. the earrings and the ring.

It’s a difficult dress and she’s too vanilla to make it work.

This look woke me up. Such a bold, unexpected choice and she carries it with ease. The bodice, however, is just not attractive, I don’t think anyone can sell it, but kudos to her for taking a risk.

I think this is seriously ugly. Never like anything she wears.

  8. Lila January 19, 2014 at 05:57 #

I like that she wore this dress more than I like the dress itself. The top really isn’t all that flattering and I can’t imagine who it would flatter. Orange is an underused color on the red carpet though and she wears the color well. I like the skirt and the styling a lot too. She’s a beautiful woman and I’m glad she’s having more fun with fashion.

      ITA.

I want to like this. The burnt orange is lovely on her, and I love her hair and makeup. That said, the dress is making her look straight up and down. And I’m not sure that the skirt really reads well as a red carpet look either (imo).

I really don’t like this gown. It’s a No from me.

  11. Jess2 January 19, 2014 at 12:38 #

I like the colour combinations and the skirt is very cool but I wish the bodice didn’t have the stitching. Overall, I think she looks good and her styling was well done. Good on her for trying something different.

    • Serenity January 19, 2014 at 17:38 #

There is a small rip in the stitching. You can see a white spot near the bottom of the bodice on her right-hand side, and it’s a tear in the seam.

I might be inclined to like this, but it makes her look so boxy.

  13. Susan January 19, 2014 at 15:39 #

    Love

  14. Elena January 19, 2014 at 16:08 #

Interesting idea, but oh, so unflattering on her. Also, her hair is a mess! So damn lifeless…

loved it! like the golden globen, it’s a hit combination!

  16. Sanya January 19, 2014 at 21:03 #

This is my second best look of the night. I’m in love with it. Love everything about it, and Julie has never looked so modern before.

  17. Anne Gallagher January 20, 2014 at 02:02 #

Yikes! I do like the burnt orange colour of the bodice, but I really dislike the graphic on the skirt. A dress should not distract the eye from the wearer, and that graphic is very distracting.

  18. gabis January 20, 2014 at 17:56 #

Even with all fitting issues I still LOVE this look. The dress is so exquisite and her genius complementary styling is absolutely impeccable. One of my best dressed.

  19. EmmaWoodhouse January 20, 2014 at 18:45 #

It’s very interesting and a bold choice. her styling is great, the color combination and the skirt are amazing–but the topic is very amateur like; poorly contructed and awkward.
