Emma Watson In Christian Dior Couture – 2014 Golden Globe Awards

Emma Watson In Christian Dior Couture - 2014 Golden Globe Awards

Emma Watson was also among the starry mix at the 2014 Golden Globe Awards, held at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California on Sunday (January 12).

The young actress had me in complete amazement at her Christian Dior Couture outing—one that I would have never predicted. Lupita Nyong’o wasn’t the only one having a red-haute night.

From the front, Emma’s ribbon-tie dress was a classic standard—even borderline uninspiring. Of course, that’s before the thigh-high slit came into focus and the true backless nature of the design was revealed.

Contrasting the languid fluidity of the gown were black skinny, cropped trousers and a sassy pair of violet-blue Roger Vivier ‘Ergo Sexy’ pumps.

The boundaries-pushing trends didn’t stop there. She completed the effect with one Dior ‘Mise en Dior’ earring: two over-sized pearls decorating her left lobe.

While her ensemble may have pushed the envelope, her hair and makeup was downright pretty with her light magenta lip and sleekly effortless bun.

She’s young; this is fashion fun; so why not throw a bit of shock and awe around. What do you make of her head-turning entrance?

This look totally took me by surprise when I saw it on television. I loved it! She totally pulled this off where few could. She’s gorgeous.

    • Francois Bresmal January 13, 2014 at 12:44 #

I TOTALLY agree! What a breath of fresh air! Flattering chiffon beaded gowns are beautiful, but this is a red carpet strike! I LOVE it! Best Dressed of The Night for me ♥

    • Jess2 January 13, 2014 at 14:04 #

I could not agree more. So unexpected and perfectly executed! So good!

  2. Nat January 13, 2014 at 02:59 #

I am obsessed by this look. Love everything h2t

    • sara January 13, 2014 at 18:07 #

Agreed, love this look. SO refreshing!

  3. Christine January 13, 2014 at 02:59 #

NOW this is a Dior look I can stand. HOLY COW!

She is rocking this better than any Jlaw/Dior look, sadly. I think this is a miss or hit with some folks but I love this!!! Haha this is actually crazy but I can see this up for BDOTW.

    • noo January 13, 2014 at 07:16 #

I agree that she totally blown j-law out of the water, and she topped most of what marion cotillard wears! I want to vote for this as best dressed too, becaue it is pushing the line so very well :D

  4. Anj January 13, 2014 at 03:00 #

Shock is fine if it actually looks good. Somehow there is some shock but mostly I find this drab and lacks any oomph. Not even close to being a contender for best dressed.

    • Sleepless in Chicago January 14, 2014 at 03:35 #

Completely agree. She looked ill at ease wearing it. How low can one stoop for attention? Has she been in any decent movies lately?

      • Yelena January 15, 2014 at 01:07 #

What on earth are you talking about? She’s in Darren Aronofsky’s next film.

  5. Yeliz January 13, 2014 at 03:01 #

She is working it! I wouldn’t have loved this ensemble on everybody, but Emma totally won me over and is one of my favourites tonight.

  6. jessicamarantelli January 13, 2014 at 03:01 #

WOW. I only saw this from the front so thanks FC for finding a pic of the back. What a crazy design…but I think that she totally pools it off. I also love the Dior earrings. I actually have the green and navy version of these on my wish list. J’adore. Nicely done Miss Watson!!

  7. jessicamarantelli January 13, 2014 at 03:02 #

pulls*…im distracted watching the live Globes coverage and my spelling and typing is out the window

  8. Nat39 January 13, 2014 at 03:05 #

The look is daring, unexpected, fashion-forward, and she is commanding it. I’m on board.

    • Serenity January 13, 2014 at 03:46 #

      This! One of my best!

  9. pipsqueaks January 13, 2014 at 03:06 #

I love this look very much! Emma is young and isn’t a nominee tonight, so why not have fun and just be a little different? It’s still very feminine, which suits her overall style sense.

  10. CreoleLady January 13, 2014 at 03:06 #

Love from the neck up and she looks great in red. Dior does edgy. Hmmm. A bit of a mish-mash, would not have guessed this is couture, not quite seeing the point. Still, nice to see something different on the GG rc.

  11. Pedro January 13, 2014 at 03:12 #

Emma looks amazing!!! Oh My God

This is how you wear Dior! Best Dressed!

  12. Mandy January 13, 2014 at 03:16 #

If it hadnt had been for that daring back i wouldnt have like this look, but Emma is rocking it.

  13. Moxie January 13, 2014 at 03:21 #

Very dramatic and memorable. She’s probably the most comfortable woman there tonight.

  14. molly January 13, 2014 at 03:22 #

Awful. It looks like she is wearing yoga pants! Its very matronly, especially the sad little belt and her blah hair. I had really hoped for more especially since this is her first major awards appearance.

    • Hannah January 13, 2014 at 16:32 #

      Totally agree

  15. CD January 13, 2014 at 03:25 #

best dressed from the back, definitely

    • Sleepless in Chicago January 14, 2014 at 03:36 #

I hope she did not twist her back.

  16. Marie January 13, 2014 at 03:26 #

Is it only me? But I find this look completely terrible. To much going on and the posture doesn’t help at all. I really don’t like it. She could have done better.

Fall 2012 Haute Couture Look #51

  18. Anne Gallagher January 13, 2014 at 03:26 #

I applaud her effort to be daring, but I am not fond of the result.

  19. kathryn January 13, 2014 at 03:27 #

LOVE! Emma literally bringing sexy back!

  20. alice January 13, 2014 at 03:27 #

Obsessed! Now, this is a major fashion moment. Love it head to toe!

  21. Markness January 13, 2014 at 03:28 #

    OBSESSED!Another BDOTY worthy contender! :D

  22. Valissa January 13, 2014 at 03:40 #

I love this! It’s different and dating and Emma is one of the few that can pull it off! It’s one of my favorites from the night!

  23. DivaDebbi (Beauty and Fashion Blog) January 13, 2014 at 03:40 #

Im still absorbing it. Love the hair and makeup.

  24. Laurie January 13, 2014 at 04:00 #

This is is shocking to me too, but in a terrible way. A total miss in my book. Unfortunate because she has been looking so modern and fresh lately. This looks like something a midwestern housewife would pick up at the mall thinking it’s “fashionable” and “different.”

  25. christine January 13, 2014 at 04:07 #

    best dressed for sure

  26. christine January 13, 2014 at 04:09 #

also its hard to tell how glorious this really is without seeing her move in it on tv. i could see how many think its odd or boring from the flat picture. it took my breath away when i saw her entrance though

  27. Heather January 13, 2014 at 04:15 #

I don’t like this look at all. Maybe if it was something else, but I don’t feel it fits the Golden Globes.

  28. snowlion January 13, 2014 at 04:17 #

I hate it so much I don’t even know what to say.

    • Sleepless in Chicago January 14, 2014 at 03:37 #

      say nothing – +1

  29. H January 13, 2014 at 04:19 #

I actually saw it on TV and then looked for it instantly on Getty and this is impeccable, I mean she works the H out of it. Fashion is always about looking forward and never looking back, ever!

  30. sanette January 13, 2014 at 04:22 #

I don’t like this at all. None of the pieces go together imo.

  31. Alina January 13, 2014 at 04:28 #

From the back – love it.
From the front – hate it.

    • Dhppy January 14, 2014 at 08:35 #

Exactly, the back is as exciting as the front is dull.

  32. Rebecca Z January 13, 2014 at 04:28 #

Spectacular. Chic, sophisticated and playful at the same time. She wears it so well. It has so many elements that I don’t like, but together and on her–perfection.

  33. CTgirl January 13, 2014 at 04:31 #

Her confidence makes this look shine. Good for Emma! Most young actresses her age either go too sophisticated without a hint of humor or grunge it up.

  34. Prudence January 13, 2014 at 04:42 #

she can pull off dior in a way JLaw never will. this is spectacular.

  35. Lashae January 13, 2014 at 04:45 #

Don’t like it but if someone other than Emma Watson wearing it might look better.

  36. Carolina January 13, 2014 at 04:57 #

Spectacular! Glowing with color, beautifully cut dress and pant – stunning. And she knows it. bdotw for me.

  37. Chandrew January 13, 2014 at 05:11 #

    this…is an apron.

  38. Aline January 13, 2014 at 05:23 #

For someone who’s there to just present an award I think this is a very interesting choice that she managed to pull off. It felt good to like a Dior look again. I also quite like the shoes and the lippie. Thumbs up for me.

  39. Saumya January 13, 2014 at 05:27 #

This is how you wear Dior…Jennifer Lawrence take note. Definitely on my Best Dressed list.

  40. Saumya January 13, 2014 at 05:27 #

This is how you wear Dior…Jennifer Lawrence take note. Definitely on my Best Dressed list.

  41. Shruti January 13, 2014 at 05:36 #

This looks like an outfit which people will either hate or love. I’m definitely in the latter category. I saw the pictures of the back and was utterly captivated. She looks great in it!

  42. Liz January 13, 2014 at 05:39 #

AMAZING! I love this. At first glance, its confusing but I love how unique it is. And Emma kills it. She kept it simple and didn’t over accessorize.

Definitely my #1 best dressed of the night followed by Lupita, Cate Blanchett, Emma Thompson, and Julia Roberts.

  43. Tamara January 13, 2014 at 05:54 #

Ahh I love how Emma Watson has carved out a beautiful, sophisticated yet edgy and fashion forward style niche at such a young age! And as someone said below, she wears Dior so much better than J-Law ever has! I just think it’s that waif-like quality and very gamine, European features (that both Natalie and Marion possess) that suits Dior so perfectly.
Get Jen a Victoria Beckham/Stella McCartney contract and replace her with Emma Watson for Dior- trying to make everyone happy haha

    • Ariadne January 13, 2014 at 12:53 #

Totally agree with everything you said! I’d love to see Emma as one of the faces of Dior. JLaw can’t pull that off.

  44. Tess January 13, 2014 at 07:27 #

Adore the drama in the back but find it to heavy and slightly matronly in the front. Still its nice to see her take the risk plus I love a bold colour and her hair and makeup is gorge!

  45. neli January 13, 2014 at 07:56 #

Perfect! EASY the best look at gg. Plus, she is Gorgeous! My fav! Well done Emma! BDOTW

  46. Elise January 13, 2014 at 08:25 #

I must admit I love it. Totally unexpected.

  47. Tracy January 13, 2014 at 09:21 #

Love this look. Totally outside of the box and completely overrides the textbook gowns and glitter. This is who JLaw should look to when wearing Dior.

  48. Sanya January 13, 2014 at 10:56 #

Wonderful, just wonderful. So fresh and exciting. And I am really not a fan of miss Watson. But this time she rocked it.

  49. Cuteboy January 13, 2014 at 12:16 #

Absolutely adore this from the back, however the front is lacking for me. I just wish it were a little more streamlined with a nicer belt and Emma to pull up in her posture a bit more. That would have made it ten times better (also I find the front slit very distracting)

  50. dee January 13, 2014 at 14:03 #

I think I would like this for red carpet another event.

    • dee January 13, 2014 at 17:38 #

*Different red carpet event not the globes.

  51. Carrie January 13, 2014 at 15:06 #

    Wow! Kudos for risk taking.

  52. oksana January 13, 2014 at 15:11 #

BEST BEST BEST. loved it. AMAZING. even BDOTY contender for me.

  53. Susan January 13, 2014 at 15:27 #

I really like this from top to bottom. The shoes in particular could not be any better. A win for Emma.

  54. dan oliver January 13, 2014 at 15:43 #

I have to say I don’t love this nor do I hate it I kinda find it uninspiring and a little casual I just don’t get it.

  55. Fiona January 13, 2014 at 17:08 #

There seems to be quite a few Emma Watson crazed Fangirls in this comment section, reposing lots of comments! I, myself, think this is event appropriate.

    • Fiona January 13, 2014 at 17:09 #

      *inappropriate

  56. kane January 13, 2014 at 17:14 #

I don’t like the colours in this, but I love the cut!

  57. Rach January 13, 2014 at 17:23 #

I’m sorry, but this looks reads to me as hospital gown with some pants on, awful!

  58. bianca January 13, 2014 at 18:09 #

loved everything about this look EXCEPT THE SHOES

  59. Tiffany Warner January 13, 2014 at 19:32 #

This is my favorite look of the night. The Golden Globes are supposed to be a fun night where anything can happen and her look is perfect. It is completely unexpected. It’s young and fun, but still elegant and timeless. She is perfection!

  60. trace January 14, 2014 at 04:44 #

i think she looks amazing. fashion forward, young, brilliant!
