2014 Golden Globe Awards Menswear Roundup

Golden Globes Men 1Flexing their sartorial strength, the guys glammed up for the 2014 Golden Globe Awards, held last night (January 12) at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. Here, an overview of the handsome highlights.

Matthew McConaughey: The big victor in the best actor category, the ‘Dallas Buyers Club’ star was every bit a winner on the red carpet, too. His Dolce & Gabbana three-piece tuxedo featured a surprising emerald-green velvet blazer with contrasting black peak lapels, adding a swoon-worthy twist on the standard. His touch of scruff, meanwhile, was his way of putting a casual-cool spin on this formal entrance. His wife, Camila Alves, also shone rather brightly in a glittery, black Dolce & Gabbana gown that flaunted her enviable curves.

Chris Pine: Rocking the full beard, the actor embraced the classics with an impeccably tailored Ermenegildo Zegna Couture black, peak grosgrain lapel tuxedo, white dress shirt, and black bow tie. He finished the look with Tod’s black patent loafers and a David Yurman gold pinky ring.

Golden Globes Men 2Usher: A presenter last night, the entertainer eschewed the typical black tux set in exchange for a fetching, oxblood Calvin Klein Collection wool two-button notch lapel tuxedo, black dress shirt, black bow tie and black leather shoes, all from the Fall 2013 collection. With the dramatic maroon hue and the flash of a diamond lapel pin, his look certainly caught my eye.

Bradley Cooper
: The ‘American Hustle’ actor and nominee may not have picked up a trophy last night, but he did still look plenty winning in his Tom Ford black tuxedo, accented with a perfect black bow tie, that simply completed his handsome picture.

Golden Globes Men 3

Orlando Bloom: Also bringing some colour to the carpet, the actor worked the dark-blue trend in a navy Lanvin one-button tuxedo with a contrasting black grosgrain shawl collar. He paired it with a white cotton dress shirt with French cuffs and antique silver cuff links, along with a navy blue silk faille bow tie and black polished calfskin derby shoes.

Channing Tatum: Although he may have been slightly upstaged by his wife Jenna Dewan-Tatum’s Roberto Cavalli showpiece, the actor was still in fine form, wearing a Gucci black peak lapel, one-button Signoria tuxedo with a white evening shirt, black tie and a pair of black leather lace-up shoes.

Golden Globes Men 4Jared Leto: The best supporting actor winner for ‘Dallas Buyers Club,’ Jared dressed up in one of his go-to labels, Saint Laurent, exchanging his rocker edge for more formal style behaviour in this black tux. Still, the fringe scarf brought in a touch of his signature style. While he sported some serious facial hair, he pulled his long locks into a slicked-back ponytail ’do.

Leonardo DiCaprio: Also scoring his own best actor trophy, ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ star wore a black Giorgio Armani two-button, notch-lapel tuxedo with a classic white evening shirt accented by Jennifer Meyer cufflinks. All this look needed was a touch of tailoring, especially to those baggy pants.

Idris Elba: Always one to impress on the red carpet, the ‘Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom’ best actor nominee worked to his advantage a Gucci Made to Order navy grosgrain three-piece, peak-lapel Marseille one-button tuxedo with a white evening shirt. No tie? No problem! Did you like his more relaxed approach?
