Queen Nieves Alvarez in Stéphane Rolland Couture is now in her rightful place! *cheers* Personally, I found Jennifer Lawrence’s Dior dress and styling quite uninspiring. She looked amazing, for sure, but it just wasn’t a jaw dropping moment.

I still don’t quite understand the Jessica Chastain in Givenchy Couture pick for 5th place. The dress had too much going on for me, and her styling was also uninspiring.

Also, even though no one else has mentioned this particular dress, I can’t seem to get Zhang Yuqi’s pea green Sergeenko creation out of my mind. Of course, there are issues with the styling, but what a color! The dress is like drama personified!

    Hi Fc!

May I ask you when will you start edit the site again in this year?
I visit the site several times everyday. I can’t wait for new posts in the main page!!

I saw the new posts in the Shop her closet part, but It’s not the same. 🙂

  3. Fashion Runner Point January 2, 2014 at 18:18 #

Nieves Alvarez in Stéphane Rolland Couture is amazing in that dress… Nicole Kidman in Valentino deserves 2nd place

  4. Carmi December 28, 2013 at 20:51 #

    I love 1, 6, 7 and 8. I never liked 4 and the rest are fine.

  5. Kate December 27, 2013 at 17:56 #

The week between Christmas and New Year’s is always difficult because no RCFA updates! But I totally understand you need a break 🙂

I’m so happy I found this site back in 2008—it had (and still has) comprehensive coverage and great features (runway to red carpet, who wore it best, etc). It’s everything I want in a fashion site. I especially value the professionalism; there’s no snide comments or gossip or mean-spiritedness. It’s all about the look. Keep up the great work, FC and everyone involved 🙂

    • Lisa December 30, 2013 at 19:01 #

ITA – going through complete withdrawal! Need my daily dose of RCFA – COME BACK!

  6. Nina December 27, 2013 at 16:51 #

I was very disappointed to see both the readers and critics list.Nieves alvarez doesn’t have the beauty or elegance to carry the gorgeous dresses she is wearing and i don’t think she should be on the list. There were better looks from so many other celebs such as miranda kerr , diane kruger that should have been chosen.
I think both the lists should be catalogued as best dressed celebs rather than by specific best looks…

  7. Mar December 27, 2013 at 09:23 #

Nieves had an amazing year, I’m so glad she is your best dressed of the year. I’m also surprised to see SJP on the list, specialy since it was not a red carpet look. She looked stunning noneless. Happy Christmas! xx

  8. ErrorFlynn December 26, 2013 at 17:01 #

Jessica Chastain and Emily Blunt were my favorites this year 🙂

  9. Jar December 26, 2013 at 13:24 #

Hi FC, I’m back at work and I have nothing to check during my breaks :). Seriously thanks for all the great coverage this year, love your first choice pic for BDOTY. I hope that you have a fantastic and restful vacation and looking forward to seeing all the greatness that is the awards season!

  10. Lucasta December 26, 2013 at 10:54 #

This was the first year I was able to vote and I was happy to see your number one pick, as that was mine as well. Also, loved 2,4,6,7,8,9 & 10.

  11. Oksana December 26, 2013 at 02:17 #

Thank you so much for giving emily blunt a weii deserved spot in the list she was AMAZING. I was shocked to see jennifer lawrence was number one in readers list. Bad thing is i cant remember who i vote for as a best dresses, and looked back pages for that, did you remove that post after voting. Thanks for your beautiful work

  12. jo December 25, 2013 at 21:19 #

I’m suprised that SJP made it to the list, but apart from her I agree with all of your choices.

Thank you for your amazing work and happy new year 🙂

  13. irving cares December 25, 2013 at 21:02 #

Now THESE are the appropriate female choices.

  14. Neela December 25, 2013 at 15:41 #

Awesome list!!! I was waiting for your list because “Your opinion is the only one that matters!!!” 😉

  15. the ogre December 25, 2013 at 12:14 #

Wow! I’m so happy that you have Emily Blunt up there. This is one of my favourite looks too! The list is brilliant!

Thank you so much, FC, for such brilliant coverage. I’ve been hooked to this site for two years now and every reading moment is a pleasure! It saved me from office blues, what can be better?

Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, FC! Have a great holiday! Looking forward to all the confections fashion has to offer next year!

Happy New Year everybody! Take care!

  16. HL December 25, 2013 at 11:13 #

I like Nieves Alvarez’s Stéphane Rolland Couture but I’m not too crazy about it. The problem about it was the golden belt; it looked jarring and cut this beautiful gown into 2 parts. Also, the red lippie made me feel she’s trying to hard or sth.

  17. Mol December 25, 2013 at 07:46 #

As usual you have given us stellar coverage for the entire year. I adore your number one and ten picks, you always make a great end of year list. Happy holidays and I’m looking forward to your awards coverage in the new year as always!

  18. Bec December 25, 2013 at 06:35 #

Great list! I agree with this one much more than the Readers Choice!

I’ve been following since late 2008 and the site just keeps getting better and better 🙂 It’s great seeing you grow as a blogger and I’ve learnt so much from your site over the years 🙂

Keep up the great work and enjoy your holiday, you deserve it!!

    • Catherine Kallon December 25, 2013 at 14:00 #

Thank you…I can’t wait to relax for 8 days

      Happy holidays xxx

  19. Markness December 25, 2013 at 06:00 #

I love this list! I had a feeling that red Ralph & Russo dress by Nieves will be in your BDOTY Catherine. Although I’m surprised that Diane’s Prabal dress didn’t make it. Surprised (in a good way) for #10. I love that you consider everything even if SJP wasn’t in a red carpet. Looking forward to 2014. HAPPY HOLIDAYS! TAKE A REST! YOU DESERVE IT! Cheers! 😀 🙂

    • Catherine Kallon December 25, 2013 at 14:06 #

Thank you…it wouldve been higher had it not been for Elizabeth 😉

Diane was close too. Probably 11

      Happy Holidays.

  20. Joy December 25, 2013 at 03:13 #

Wishing you a Merry Christmas & Blessed New Year! I missed voting this year. 🙁 I was on holiday and was anxiously waiting till I got home to vote. I was so looking forward to the hours at my computer, making the decisions…oh well there is always next year. Love your choices! Can’t wait to see all the fashion you so wonderfully bring to me each morning. Cheers!

    • Catherine Kallon December 25, 2013 at 14:01 #

Sorry you didn’t get to vote. Who would’ve been your best dressed?

  21. lola December 25, 2013 at 00:43 #

Great list! But I hate #2, I don’t care if I do stand alone.

    • Oksana December 26, 2013 at 02:11 #

You are not alone, i dislike it too. I think the actress had many more better outfits i was surprised seeing her with this outfit as number two both on readers and critics choice. So you are not alone.

  22. Britta December 25, 2013 at 00:21 #

I agree – though I would have Diane Kruger in Prabal Gurung in too – and that as My no. 1 ;o) Thank you so much for your site! I love it!

    • Serenity December 25, 2013 at 05:00 #

Yes, I’m pretty bummed that there was no Diane on either list. I certainly thought her Prabal Gurung gown qualified her for a spot. She certainly made my top 10!

    • Nat39 December 28, 2013 at 17:47 #

I’m also missing Diane’s Prabal Gurung look, it was sharp, fresh, dynamic. I’d easily trade Nicole’s bland and stale lace look for it.

  23. Ramsay December 24, 2013 at 23:58 #

Very interesting list indeed FC – I did expect many of these ladies on your list – though to be honest I was expecting Cate in red Armani as your BDOTY – I have to say I was totally wrong on this one
We both have Nicole in Valentino ans Sarah Jessica in Valli/Katrantzou on our lists
Enjoy Thailand FC will be waiting for your comeback

    • Catherine Kallon December 25, 2013 at 13:54 #

I was going back on forth between the Prive and this one.

Off the Phuket tonight. Can’t wait to relax 😉

      Happy Holidays xxx

  24. nina December 24, 2013 at 22:37 #

When I read that now is going to be 7 years of covering awards season wow..couldn’t believed!! Well, I have been following your blog for that long (minus few month) and still enjoying in it. Thanks for that.
    Happy Holidays!

  25. Ana December 24, 2013 at 20:40 #

I’m really happy that my favorite, Emily Blunt in Michael Kors, made this list!!

  26. Tina December 24, 2013 at 20:15 #

THANK YOU for putting Nieves in her rightful spot. I always like reading your list more than the readers – it makes so much more sense.

  27. Prudence December 24, 2013 at 19:15 #

Other than Nieves look, Jolie and SJP everyone else can be removed.

  28. Serenity December 24, 2013 at 18:20 #

Santa came early this year, lol! Really, I am soooooo thrilled to see Nieves at number 1. It actually pained me to see her miss it by thismuch on the readers’ list. Your list is also quite similar, (in terms of choices, not necessarily order), to the readers’ poll, which kind of surprises me. From looking back at years past of the ‘Best Of’, there was traditionally a lot more variation. I would love to see what your ‘Top 100’ would look like!

Many many moons until your return, looking so forward to awards season! Until then, everyone have a safe and happy New Year!

  29. Nat39 December 24, 2013 at 17:26 #

Nieves was an undeniable winner, also No. 2,4,5,6 and 8 made my top 10 list – 6 out of 10 that’s fantastic.

Your site is amazing, Catherine. You are great at what you do, and your level of interaction with your readers also deserves recognition. Thanks for keeping it going. Happy Holidays!!

    • Catherine Kallon December 24, 2013 at 21:21 #

Thank you. Glad to learn that you continue to enjoy the site. Happy holidays xx

  30. Alina December 24, 2013 at 17:24 #

LOVE every look in the top 5! Glad to see Nieves right where she belongs!

7 years since you have been covering the awards season.. WOW! I’ve been around since the 2009 Golden Globes (Beyonce brought us together, FC! :)) ), so it will be my… many year enjoying great fashion because of you! Thank you and happy holidays, FC!

    • Catherine Kallon December 24, 2013 at 21:22 #

      Happy holidays my dear xxx

2009 is just as I was getting into my stride 😀

      Thanks for your support x

  31. Cássia December 24, 2013 at 17:14 #

    Good selection!

  32. Larissa December 24, 2013 at 16:24 #

I’m glad almost all my favourites are here and Nieves is #1! Thank YOU FC for your hard work- I literally can’t wait for awards season! Happy Holidays

  33. Anita December 24, 2013 at 16:19 #

Great choices, definitely agreed with Nieves Alvarez in Stéphane Rolland Couture – I’m still fawning over it. And Angelina + Cate too. Suprised Lupita didn’t make your list.

Wishing you a Merry Christmas FC! As always, thanks for all your hard work in covering the rc’s this year. Hopefully you manage to get some rest before Awards season kicks into 5th gear :).

    • Catherine Kallon December 24, 2013 at 21:25 #

She was so close, but I had too many non negotiables on my last 😀

I’m hoping an awards season moment sets her up for next years list.

      Happy holidays xxx

  34. jessicamarantelli December 24, 2013 at 16:18 #

Im split. On the one hand I totally love that emily Blunt was in this list but then I am Jennifer Lawrence’s biggest fan and voted her number one (although I also voted for the calvin klein after party gown). I think that between the two lists we did an amazing job picking the best dressed.
My picks (from this list) no. 1,2,5,6,7,9. From the other no.1,2,3,4,5,6,9.

Thanks FC for all of your amazing work this year. Merry Christmas, Happy holidays.

  35. mm December 24, 2013 at 16:06 #

Another great year, Thank you for all you do FC.

    • Catherine Kallon December 24, 2013 at 21:26 #

And thank you for another year of supporting me and try site.

      Happy holidays

  36. naya December 24, 2013 at 15:57 #

I totally and absolutely agree both on Emily Blunt and SJP. They were awesome!
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you too Catherine and to everyone else! 🙂

    • Catherine Kallon December 24, 2013 at 21:31 #

I adored them both. Surprised Emily didn’t get more votes in the readers poll..

      Happy holidays xxx

  37. Jess2 December 24, 2013 at 15:48 #

    Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!
Very excited to see Emily on your list, she looked amazing.

Merry Christmas Catherine and Merry Christmas to everyone else. I look forward to enjoying fashion with you all in the new year xox

    • Catherine Kallon December 24, 2013 at 21:33 #

Merry Christmas and a happy new year….

      Thanks for your support xx

  38. Rebecca Z December 24, 2013 at 15:38 #

I am so glad to see Emily blunt on your list. She looked spectacular in that dress and was a real force in the first half of the year. I totally agree with your choice of Alvarez in that dress for #1.

    • Rebecca Z December 24, 2013 at 15:56 #

PS Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Catherine! Thank you for providing us with another year of fashion chills and thrills. Hope you enjoy your time off!

      • Catherine Kallon December 24, 2013 at 21:32 #

        Thank you.

I’m going to Phuket. So total relaxation before the madness begins 😀

        Happy holidays x

        • Serenity December 25, 2013 at 04:51 #

Wow! Phuket?! How freaking fantastic is that?? Please, please, please share with us at least one or two pictures of yourself there when you return! Living vicariously…..

          Have a great time/break!

    • Marybeth December 24, 2013 at 16:50 #

Agreed! I loved that Emily Blunt look at first glance, but the more I saw it, the more I loved it. The styling with those amethyst earrings — perfection!
(I also agree that Nieves is definitely #1!)

  39. EmmaWoodhouse December 24, 2013 at 15:11 #

WOW. FC, this is a great list! 1,3,4,5,7, and 9 are my favorites!! Glad Nieves won first place. Have an amazing Christmas/New Years/break–I can’t wait for next year!

  40. moonbeam December 24, 2013 at 15:03 #

Great choices. But what about Naomie Harris in the black and gold Alexander McQueen gown at the recent London premiere of Mandela: A Long Walk to Freedom? I thought that would definitely be in your top 10.

  41. Yeliz December 24, 2013 at 15:01 #

I knew that Nieves in Stéphane Rolland Couture would be your best dressed and I’m so happy to see my best dressed Kerry Washington in your list too. This is such an amazing list, we share 6 out of 10 looks.

I wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year, dear Catherine. May 2014, starting with Awards Season, be a year full of breathtaking looks.

Lots of love from Germany xx

    • Catherine Kallon December 24, 2013 at 21:30 #

You know me so well 😉

I’m pretty confident this awards season will be an epic run with Cate and Lupita.

      Happy holidays.

Look forward to reading your comments next year xxx

      Love from London xxx 😉

  42. Blossom December 24, 2013 at 14:58 #

Totally agree with the top 3. Those dresses made me gasp when I saw them and they were imprinted on my mind. Thanks for a great blog!

  43. victor blanco December 24, 2013 at 14:41 #

As Nieves Stylist all I can say….is THANK YOU!!!

    • Catherine Kallon December 24, 2013 at 21:28 #

I should be thanking you 😉

    • Markness December 25, 2013 at 05:58 #

You are amazing. Hope we’ll be seeing more jaw dropping looks from Nieves although we’re sure we’ll be seeing it next year! Cheers! Merry Christmas! 😉

    • Serenity December 25, 2013 at 13:01 #

We all thank you…BOTH of you!

    • Zerina December 25, 2013 at 23:26 #

Thank you very much, Nieves is my best dressed too. And Happy New Year to everyone. Greetings from Bosnia.

    • sara January 2, 2014 at 20:34 #

Your work is amazing. Of course, you have a perfect canvas but I have yet to see a look of hers that I just don’t ADORE! Looking forward to 2014.

  44. Christine December 24, 2013 at 14:35 #

Happy New Year, Catherine!! Best site ever xoxo can’t wait for next year 🙂

  45. Carmen December 24, 2013 at 14:34 #

    Perfect choices! I love it.

  46. Christine December 24, 2013 at 14:34 #

    Love your list!

  47. Nicky December 24, 2013 at 14:32 #

THANK YOU!! Nieves in her rightful spot <3

  48. Ashley Williams Rae December 24, 2013 at 14:31 #

I disagree with the majority. I love Elizabeth Banks in Elie Saab – looks 1 and 3 Nieves is trying too hard. Jessica Chastain should have wore a more muted purple or minus the embelishment. I find this look quite horrific. Emily Blunt and Nicole Kidman should complete the top 3. Angelina is gorgeous in white but nothing groundbreaking.

  49. vanillarose December 24, 2013 at 14:25 #

    OMG – amazing choices!
