Rihanna In Jean Paul Gaultier Couture – 2013 American Music Awards

Rihanna In Jean Paul Gaultier Couture Spring 2013 - 2013 American Music Awards

Rihanna skipped the red carpet for the 2013 American Music Awards on Sunday evening, but did make an appearance on stage to collect the ‘Favourite Soul/R&B Artist’ of the year award.

She did so wearing a sexy two-piece from Jean Paul Gaultier’s Spring 2013 Couture collection.

The look consisted of a black bustier top with a floor-sweeping sheer lace skirt with girdle-like construction.

A collection of jewels courtesy of Lynn Ban and Repossi plus an Alex Mika ear cuff accessorized her look.

It’s by far from being her best look, but I don’t hate it.

On the downside her wrap-setting hairstyle is beyond ridiculous plus the tan lines are tacky.

I sleep with my hair this way at night. It’s ridiculous to go out in public that way, clothes included. No.

Exactly, women here in Santo Domingo do it but they don’t go out with it, or atl east the shouldn’t.

This looks is very Rihanna and I mean that in a good way. The tan lines aren’t great but I actually think her hairstyle is interesting.

I love her outfit, but I’m not exactly sure that’s going on on her head?

    Eye roll worthy.

It wouldn’t have looked so tacky if she’d worn the top like on the runway.

    • KatieKate November 25, 2013 at 08:21 #

      That’s what I thought.

  9. Alina November 25, 2013 at 08:25 #

Should-I-laugh-or-should-I-cry kind of look. The hair certainly makes me laugh, looks like one of the bits of fabric that cover her breats. This is absolutely terrible.

She should have worn the runway top as well, would have covered the tan lines and made the look more 20s to match her hair.

    she’s more beautiful than what she’s wearing…

That hairstyle is something women here in the Dominican Republic call ¨tubi¨ and is something you do while sleeping to keep your hair from messing up… Ridiculous!

  16. Marko_M November 25, 2013 at 17:19 #

I love this! It’s haute couture done right and a proper risk that paid off. She IS an icon.

  17. MEME November 25, 2013 at 18:24 #

Her hairstyle is called a Doobie, and it’s a West Indian(mainly Dominican) protective style that you wear to keep your newly blowed out, permed, and straightened hair to last, I usually wear my hear in a Doobie to sleep, or after I get my hair done at the hair salon, never to a formal event, that is just tacky…

Don’t know what I dislike more, the hair or the ensemble.

  19. serenissima November 25, 2013 at 23:52 #

Um I could take or leave her outfit (it’s very ‘Rihanna’) but when did her hair wrap become a primarily West Indian or Dominican thing? I’m African-American and Black women here in the States certainly sleep with their hair wrapped up as well… lol. I had a ton of Dominican friends in college and I was surprised to find out they wore their hair that way.

On the plus side, her skin/makeup looks flawless.

    She’s working it!
