Emma Thompson In Maria Grachvogel - 'Saving Mr Banks' London Film Festival Closing Night Gala Premiere

Emma Thompson joined Lily Allen and Ruth Wilson on the red carpet for the Closing Night Gala premiere of ‘Saving Mr Banks’ during the 57th BFI London Film Festival held at the Odeon Leicester Square on Sunday evening.

I was delighted to see Emma having fun with fashion. I’m sure many would’ve expected her to wear some sad sack of a dress, but she surprised everyone by wearing a Maria Grachvogel Fall 2013 ensemble.

The look consisted of a silk-organza reflective branches-print blouse with an ethereal, filmic quality styled with a dramatic black jacquard A-line skirt with a shorter front to show off her ankle boots.

I was going to give her full marks for pulling off such a tricky look until I got to the shoes. Open-toe or strappy sandals would’ve elongated her legs.

I like how the edgier skirt offsets the ethereal blouse and how she balanced it with the black earrings. She looks radiant and carries this unexpected look with confidence. Not a fan of the booties but they don’t ruin the look for me, she still gets thumbs up from me.

I agree. The booties aren’t great, but it’s such a wintery look that they don’t seem completely out of place.

Yes, and the booties are still chic, which is nice.

I think this is one case where booties made the most sense. ….But I still don’t like’em! Hmpf!

Me too. It’s a great look for her.

    Almost there…not quite.

Her smile just wins me over.

My initial reaction was: “Wow, didn’t know she had it in her”, but I agree about the boots. She still deserves a lot of credit for this look.

      Very.

Oh yeah. Just noticed that. That’s weird.

I wish she wore the skirt that was paired with the skirt she has on from the runway. I guess she wanted a gown type skirt but this doesn’t work for me. I like the booties and they would have looked better with that other skirt. I love the hair. The blonde looks good on her. Makeup is lovely too.

*Paired with the shirt not skirt.

I’m in from the waist up, but can’t get on board with the mullet skirt of those shoes.

I have a “what’s going on???” question in my mind but I think I like think I like it…

I double wrote “I think I like it” XD

Strappy sandals would’ve been a better choice, I agree, but I don’t mind the booties. I love this ensemble on her, she is carrying it amazingly.

Props to her for wearing this look- apart from the ugly footwear- Though I really like how it was presented on the runway but again I don’t like those shoes either.

I figured it out! I would just overall like this look a lot better if she wasn’t standing with her hands in the pockets. It looks so awkward.

I’m sorry but I think this is awful – the mullet skirt, the silly pose, the clunky shoes, the grandma hair. The earrings are nice though.

+1. Absolutely horrified. Such a beautiful woman, but this look wouldn’t work on ANYBODY.

The two runway looks are fine. The problem started with combining the two. The styling of the skirt does not go well with the shapeless blouse with strange sleeves. The boots do not work at all. I would prefer to see edgier ankle boots or high boots, maybe ever over the knee ones.

  13. Denise October 22, 2013 at 11:17 #

I’ll give her a pass, although I like the items separately but not so much together, simply because she surprised me .

    • Sleepless in Chicago November 27, 2013 at 16:32 #

Completely agree. Separates work but the put together bits do not.
