No longer the symbol of an insipid school uniform or an uninspired flannel, plaid is again the cool kid on the block with celebrities everywhere staying in check with a hip-to-be-square style mentality.
The traditional red checkered pattern has been the leader of the resurgence, although some stars have stepped outside the box in favour of another colour combo.
Included among the tartan trendsters is Ciara, who was hipster-cool with a sporty red dress, tied up with a plaid shirt around her waist and custom knee-high, red Givenchy boots.
Kat Graham explored the cocktail side of the squared look with her sizzling Dolce & Gabbana frock. But it was Rita Ora who increasingly amped up the punk-funk appeal in a Karl Lagerfeld jacket-and-trousers ensemble, accessorized with even more quirk in a backwards baseball cap and statement shades and shoes.
Meanwhile, Maria Menounos took a tamer, more classic approach in a Zara navy mini-dress with zipper detail. The high-street frock was also worn by Olivia Palermo during Spring 2014 Paris Fashion Week.
And, Julianne Hough gave us a grungy-cool, street-style look with her Maje shirt, worn over a T-shirt and black skinny jeans.

I love Julianne’s look from H2T and like Maria’s look. I’m hating Ciara’s boots.
I like Maria’s more subdued classic version, and it works as casual for Julianne.
I’m kind of over this 90’s revival.
I’d wear that Burberry coat any day! Plaid can be tricky but when done right I think it’s a nice pattern for a wardrobe addition.
Agreed-I love that coat! Interestingly enough, of all the looks I actually prefer Olivia Palermo’s, (not shown here, but linked). The dress fits her much better than it did Maria. And her accessories are killer! She looks amaze-balls!
I only like Kat Graham and Julianne Hough looks. I like plaid.
I would like Maria’s dress if it weren’t for where the zipper hits.
Other than Maria (whose dress is too short but the best here) the rest look pretty awful, especially Ciara and Rita. However, I like some of the plaid pieces that you picked out at the bottom of the page. I love plaid when it’s done right.
