Prabal Gurung’s Fashion Week

Prabal Gurung's Fashion Week 1

The celeb set has a crush: Just call him Prabal Gurung. Within the last week, the designer’s bold, breathtaking confections have made more than a few red-carpet moments on the backs of beauties who have been none too shy to show off their penchant for Prabal. No wonder he is the current go-to for glam looks—laced with a touch of fashionable gumption.

Sarah Jessica Parker: The stylista, who is already a huge fan of the brand, started the weeklong trend with a sublime, barely-pink bustier for her entrance at the New York City Ballet’s fall gala. Inspired by Prabal Gurung’s Spring 2014 collection, the romantic bodice was simultaneously sharp and soft, stealing the show despite the Olivier Theyskens floaty ball-gown skirt.

Cate Blanchett: The ‘Beauty in Wonderland’ exhibit in Italy, which Cate recently attended, was only matched by her whimsical, feathered frock from the Resort 2014 collection. The intrepid trio of crimson, black and white hues proved a strong counterpoint to that flurry of fun feathers.

Diane Kruger: Also in keeping with the red, black and white palette, the actress stunned at The Metropolitan Opera in New York City with her colour-block, high-low gown, also from Resort 2014. It was angular and sleek—and carried off in the utmost of sophistication.

Hailee Steinfeld: Exciting us with a peek at the Spring 2014 collection, the young starlet and Prabal devotee showed her edgy style stripes with an off-the-shoulder, embellished dress at the ‘Romeo & Juliet’ premiere in California. Mature and modish, but oh-so-appropriate at the same time, Hailee did Prabal proud.

Oh my goodness! I really love SJP’s dress! And I don’t usually like her style.

Diane, hands down, sleek, bold, dynamic. SJP with a delightful look for ballet gala is my 2nd fave.
Didn’t like that feathery confection on Cate (esp. with those peep-toes) and Hailee looks way too awkward in the dress that seems too mature for her.

…although I do Love Hailee’s dress itself, she just clearly didn’t carry it well (esp. on those high heels), the dress obviously needed a woman with a more mature sophistication and elegance to work it.

Diane by a long mile. I included this look to my BDOTY list the minute I saw it. Hailee is my runner-up.

SJP is my favourite. She looks divine. This colours really suits her and makes her blue eyes pop. ADORE!

Diane’s dress is the best. But Cate is my favorite person.

SJP’s outfit looked cheap, Cate and Hailee looked nice ankles up and Diane looked sensational.

This is a great write-up! I love Prabal, his is always one of my favorites when the new collections crop up. This spring was very interesting and different for him, but I loved the colors, and it seemed influenced by Raf at Dior, (this wasn’t an original critique, I read it in Tim Blanks’ review of the collection, but I couldn’t agree more). The dress that Hailee is wearing speaks to that ‘influence’, IMO, and I think it translated to the RC even better than I had expected. (Although I loved a lot of his designs on the runway, I have wondered how they will look on ‘real’ people). I think Hailee looks great, in fact, I think every one of these ladies look phenomenal, BUT, my hands-down favorite is Diane, of course. BDOTW, even in Emmy week, and a strong BDOTY contender! Need I say more? Obviously not, since I just wrote an essay-sorry…

The only way I like is Diane.

Diane by a long mile! Then, Cate then SJP and Hailee for a tie. :)

I’m not always a fan of Diane Kruger’s style, but this dress just knocks it out of the park. She looks absolutely gorgeous. SJP’s my #2 choice. It’s always nice to see her looking this good.

  14. EmmaWoodhouse September 26, 2013 at 04:18 #

Wowed by Diane, loving Hailee, smiling at Cate, frowning at SJP.

  15. Alina September 26, 2013 at 07:10 #

    Diane Kruger for sure.

Overall, she is no 2 on my “best Prabal Gurung ladies” after Zoe Saldana who wears his clothes like no other.

  16. Denise September 26, 2013 at 07:35 #

Diane is awesome here and SJP my second favourite.

  17. Katrin September 26, 2013 at 09:54 #

I don’t like any of them. Diane look good, but the skirt looks like it’s made out of paper.

I agree with you. Not really liking the looks all that much. The best is Diane.

  18. Sigga Dóra September 26, 2013 at 11:36 #

Diane wins for me. Her look is divine.
