Naomi Watts In Versace – ‘Diana’ World Premiere

Naomi Watts In Versace - 'Diane' World Premiere

Naomi Watts attended the world premiere of ‘Diana’ held at The Odeon Leicester Square in London this evening.

I was hoping for a BDOTY wow moment, yet sadly I feel totally underwhelmed.

Naomi wore a white Versace gown with a Liz Hurley-esque side slit, keyhole detail and asymmetrical neckline – but that’s not the underwhelming part. That has been reserved for the accessories – sans the Chopard jewels, of course.

The black Christian Louboutin ‘Hyper Prive’ peep-toes and black Edie Parker clutch mute the look, plus I am also turned off by the shiny makeup – yes, it was a very mild evening – and the lacklustre hair.

Sorry, but for such a grand occasion I was expecting more. A lot more.

I don’t like this dress, but granted, I’m not a Versace person. Perhaps on a fuller figure like Jennifer Lawrence, or Sofia Vergara, this would look more interesting, but it looks very boring on her body shape. Also, the shoes. The shoes. Why? White shoes. Strappy silver sandals. Blue to match the sapphires in her earrings, Hell any color other than black would have been more interesting. Frankly it just looks like she just threw something together out of a couple of choices in the limo on the way over. I’m flummoxed.

I think her makeup ages her terribly, and seems too dreary for the occassion.

The dress in itself is fine. Wrong accessories is where the overall look melts down. I absolutely hate the earrings. They manage to cheapen the look and are absolutely wrong here. When in doubt, go with art deco confections, not the juvenile Forever21 type cheapies. The clutch and the shoes might have worked with the right earrings.

i like her dress, make-up and earrings… but shoes? omg, these shoes are boring!

I don’t like the shoes and bag with the dress.

  6. Denise September 6, 2013 at 11:16 #

I like the dress, the fit and the spectacular earrings. She could have chosen different accessories, but I don’t think it is that bad overall.

Black shoes??? Really… What an off look!!!

    Someone’s got a too light concelear here…

I don’t mind the hair or the make up, what I mind is the clutch and shoes. So off putting and jarring against the white.

What I wouldn’t do for a turquoise clutch and matching shoes… It’d be a blast!
I like the dress and the jewels are lovely… Don’t mind the hair.

I think she looks great. It’s minimalist, modern and sexy. She doesn’t need a lot to look flawless and elegant.

    I’m disappointed 🙁

  13. Christine September 6, 2013 at 03:11 #

    Very underwhelming.

I feel like I should say this very quietly in teensy type–I think she looks pretty good.

+2. Other than the shoes, amazing!

      • Yeliz September 6, 2013 at 11:44 #

I also love everything except for the shoes. The gown is gorgeous.

I saw photos yesterday and thought she looked great!

  15. molly September 6, 2013 at 01:44 #

There is nothing wrong with the look as a whole, the problem is the fact that Naomi has absolutely no presence to pull it off.

  16. Nicole September 6, 2013 at 01:25 #

Wow – I think she looks gorgeous! This is my first time to comment on RCFA as I was so surprised to read the negative comments on how Naomi looks here. While I do agree the shoes are not great I would kill to look as good as her, shiny makeup and all.

  17. Maria Luiza September 6, 2013 at 01:02 #

    this look is so 90s

  18. Prudence September 6, 2013 at 00:53 #

    Diana would not be proud.
far too underwhelming, I will have forgotten this by the next page! The dress look awkward on her, she doesn’t have enough of a presence to pull off anything Versace, those shoes are god awful and her hair and makeup is a mess. Overall failure.

  19. Hilary September 6, 2013 at 00:38 #

Why on earth would you wear those shoes with a white dress? It looks so awkward and like they were the only ones she owned, so she had no choice (which was obviously not the case!)
    Totally underwhelmed here too.

emmeline’s right… she’s embarassed by the movie and wants to hide away

    • Irina September 6, 2013 at 14:12 #

Hide in a white dress – I don’t think so. Seems that she was going for the understated elegance and ended up with this underbaked look. It’s a shame because the actress deserves better.

  21. Emmeline September 6, 2013 at 00:31 #

    This is really underwhelming.

Considering how absolutely brutal the reviews have been so far, maybe that’s what she was going for. Play it safe, fly under the radar, not draw any more attention to this film than she has to?

    • kane September 6, 2013 at 06:34 #

Interesting theory. But wearing a hot mess of a neckline and making an inexplicable shoe choice isn’t quite flying under the radar, is it?

  22. AnderBoBo September 6, 2013 at 00:30 #

I actually think this is spot on for the tone of the movie: elegant, slightly sexy and well fitting, not too ostentatious. I think anything too OTT or glamorous could have been portrayed as done in poor taste.

It is a great classic Versace dress but the stiyling ruined everything 🙁
