Carina Lau In Marc Jacobs – Louis Vuitton Commerical Event

Carina Lau In Marc Jacobs - Louis Vuitton Commerical Event

Carina Lau attended a commercial event hosted by Louis Vuitton in Hong Kong, China on Saturday evening.

The actress surprised me by wearing a Marc Jacobs Spring 2013 look.

Usually when a brand hosts an event, especially in Asia, the celebrity wears that brand. While designed by the same designer, it’s still an usual move.

Her 60s-inspired black-gold-and-white short-sleeved dress with a squared top half and striped panelled skirt with sheer inserts is the shorter version of the same look which took to the runway.

Carina’s styling makes this look feel very pedestrian. The sassy vibe the look had on the runway is made to look quite conservative with her black accessories and centre-parted ‘do, which is probably the look she was going for.

She’s taken away the only thing I like about the dress on the runway… the effect of the skirt.

‘Pedestrian’ is a good word for this. It looks like something my mother-in-law would wear. And that’s not a compliment.

  • Lola

I can not for the life of me understand how anyone could get the idea of cropping this dress so it emphasizes the biggest part of your calves…????!

  • Jolene

She looks very correct for the event. The styling doesnt bother me.Yes, is very conservative but as you said,I think it was intentional.

  • Sharon

Too bad, because I really like the shorter version of the dress. But it didn’t need any drabbing down, so her choice of styling isn’t the best.

She looks like she’s going to work or church.

This week must be the record for terrible looks. Between the GQ event, Venice and some really dumpy street styles (yes, Diana Agron, I mean you)I can’t remember a week in which there has been so little to like. Shortening the sleeves and the hem just kill all the spirit in this dress. It becomes old and matronly.

  • Nat39

I prefer her version with the shorter sleeves but I agree, she makes it look too conservative with her dull uninspiring styling. I wouldn’t mind seeing a pop of color here and sexier hairstyle.

I don’t mind her styling. I think it works for her. I don’t really care the dress on the model.

I love the dress and she looks nice enough, but I agree that the styling is much too matronly. A softer hairdo and killer heels would have lifted the look considerably, without taking her out of her comfort zone.
