Maria Sharapova In Valentino – Porsche Design And Vogue Re-Opening Event

Maria Sharapova In Valentino - Porsche Design And Vogue Re-Opening Event

Maria Sharapova attended the Porsche Design and Vogue re-opening event at Porsche Design Beverly Hills in Beverly Hills, California yesterday evening.

The tennis player wore a Valentino Fall 2013 long-sleeved black dress featuring a contrast collar and yoke, a sheer organza insert at the shoulders, contrast buttoned cuffs and an inverted pleat at the front.

As someone not a fan of such shapeless dresses, I oddly find myself very intrigued by this look.

The styling, which included a gold Ferragamo clutch and black Louboutin pumps, is too muted for my liking, but works perfectly well with the dress.

A low-slung ponytail and barely there makeup completed the look.

Does this get a thumbs up or down from you?

You can buy Maria’s Valentino dress from Luisa via Roma US or Luisa via Roma UK.

It would get a thumbs up in October. I know every one wants to “wear it first” but when you wear something so out of season it just looks wrong. There are a million great summer dresses out there. Get one.

Holy nipple showing in the second detail pic. There is nothing interesting or memorable about this. And the Getty images of her Porsche ad are even worse. Who on earth thought “This looks like a great outfit”?? So wrong.

Why would she wear this in July in LA? It is very unflattering to her bodyshape when she has an amazing body, the hair is awful and her makeup is not the best. Very odd from top to toe.

I’m starting to think that Valentino’s Fall 2013 collection is the reverse of Chanel’s Spring 2013 Couture and Resort collections. In those Chanel collections, the models often looked awkward yet every actress who wore one of those looks on the red carpet looked amazing. In this Valentino collection, the models look like serene elegant beauties, but every actress who’s worn something from this collection on the red carpet looks dull and lifeless, like she’s slowly transforming into a nun against her will.

      Interestingly true.

I love the dress, I’m even fine with clutch and pumps, but I can’t past the mumsy hair.

Thumbs up. She looks effortless chic and young.

I am surprised that I like this too, because usually I would find a feature like the illusion strip to be too gimmicky–but in this case it works. Just wish she had gone for a shoe as interesting as the dress.

    Love this dress.

I love it completely, and would not change a thing.

I much prefer the runway version – it just does not have the same playful feel on Maria.

Great dress but she is dead in it. She’s giving no life at all with the boring face, shoes, bag. Just boring.

    she looks so matronly!

The styling couldn’t be duller. It’s a shame because I like the dress.

It gets a pass but I miss the runway necklace and different shoes.

Together, the pleating, white shirt shoulder effect and short length are giving me a schoolgirl vibe – sort of St Trinnians goes high fashion. I guess I don’t like it!

    • Nat39 July 12, 2013 at 20:48 #

My instant thought – a schoolgirl uniform. This look doesn’t suit her, she looks awkward and uncomfortable.

Totally thumbs up. It is demure without being too conservative and sexy without being too “in your face”.
