Beauty Trend Spotting: White Hot Mani

Beauty Trend Spotting White Hot Mani 2

Stark white manicures are going to be huge this summer, and celebs are already taking note.

After making a huge showing on the Spring 2013 runways at Moschino, Kate Spade, Rag & Bone to name a few, white nails have been popping up on everyone from Zoe Saldana to Kristen Wiig to Naya Rivera.

While many women are skeptical of the look, I highly recommend giving it a try. You’ll find it’s eye-catching, chic and surprisingly sophisticated.

Since streaks can show up easily in white opaque polishes, here’s how to get a smooth finish on your white mani–without caking on layer after layer of polish:

Start with a ridge-filling base coat like Butter London’s Nail Foundation Flawless Basecoat.

Let it dry completely, and then apply a thin layer of your white lacquer.

Think of this as a primer, and don’t worry about streaks–it’s all about getting that initial color on the nail. Then make the second coat slightly thicker.

If there are any streaks showing (most likely there won’t be.) after the second coat, you can finish off with a super thin third coat. Seal it all with a clear top coat like Essie Good to Go! Fastest Drying Top Coat.

Your final product will be on-trend and red carpet ready.
