amfAR’s 20th Annual Cinema Against AIDS Red Carpet Round Up

amfar 1

Here is a round up of the looks from the amfAR Cinema Against AIDS Gala held at Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Cap d’Antibes, France on Thursday evening.

Janet Jackson: The singer has had many memorable moments at this event, sadly this will not be one of them. Her Armani Privé ensemble is simple and chic, however it is not on par with her Haider Ackermann look from the 2011 event. She styled her look with white ribbon Giuseppe Zanotti sandals and a Paolobongia ring.

Bonnie Wright: Those who remember Bonnie from last year’s event will know that this is much improved. The actress opted for a simple very elegant black Prada dress with a v-neckline which she styled with a gold Prada clutch and opulent earrings.

Aishwarya Rai: The Indian beauty wore traditional look on this occasion selecting a gold Tarun Tahiliani sari which was elegantly wrapped over a gold blouse and styled with gold accessories. Is that too much gold for you?

Louise Roe: The British TV presenter often delights with something new. On this occasion, she wore a Randa Salamoun gown incorporating a bold mix of colours including purple, black and red. As her gown is quite dramatic, I love that she kept that going with the smoky eye makeup and sweeping tresses. Her gold clutch and shoes were by Jimmy Choo, while her jewels were courtesy of Kimberly Macdonald for LoveGold Live.

Kat Graham: The star wore a black Marchesa gown with a lace bodice and feather peplum. We shouldn’t be at all surprised by the edgy styling which included Swarovski jewels and deep black cherry lips. Smooth out blonde tresses and a Marchesa quartz clasp clutch completed her look.

Ellie Goulding: The British singer wore a silver scatter beaded and embellished gown by Brazilian designer Patricia Bonaldi. Such a shame about the hair. An elegant ‘do would’ve really elevated this look. Jimmy Choo ‘Kalpa’ sandals provided the finishing touches.

Aishwarya might be a bit an overkill but she’s too busy working it for me to really notice.

  2. Melrose May 24, 2013 at 04:24 #

The hell? Bonnie Wright looks like she’s a 58 y.o. grandmother.

    • Emily May 24, 2013 at 06:26 #

+1, I cannot tell from this photo that she is 4 years younger than me.

    • Noemi May 24, 2013 at 06:44 #

I totally agree, I hardly recognize her with blonde hair… I don’t understand why some young people do everything possible to look old.

      • justme May 24, 2013 at 14:38 #

lol she didn’t mean Bonnie from TVD.

    • justme May 24, 2013 at 14:37 #

It’s the haircut, it’s really aging.

  3. dunzoo May 24, 2013 at 04:28 #

My favorite is Aishwarya Rai, she looks stunning, it’s her best look since the beginning of the festival. Sometimes, more is more.
I also like Louise Roe (great dress but the styling is boring) and Kat Graham (from the neck down).

    • MissCru May 24, 2013 at 14:43 #

      100% agree. Aishwarya FTW!

  4. Christine May 24, 2013 at 04:31 #

Louise Roe and Ellie are my favorites.

Bonnie is much improved from her last Cannes appearance. That was dead awful.

Kat Graham. That blonde is harsh and too much is going on.

  5. Lashae May 24, 2013 at 04:37 #

Aishwarya Rai whole look is gorgeous.

  6. Marybeth May 24, 2013 at 04:39 #

    Aishwarya Rai — amazing.
On anyone else that much gold could look brassy but on her it looks gorgeously rich and regal.
I can’t take my eyes off her.
    Wow.

  7. shifa rajwani May 24, 2013 at 04:45 #

I believe Bonnie’s earrings are from Wright and Teague, a company owned by her parents.

    • Julia May 24, 2013 at 10:33 #

this is the only reason she was there. Mom and Dad money. To much make and Very boring dress.

  8. shifa rajwani May 24, 2013 at 04:45 #

I believe Bonnie’s earrings are from Wright and Teague, a company owned by her parents.

nothing on this page is to my liking.

    • Julia May 24, 2013 at 10:34 #

      + 1.

  10. Shalini Lahiri May 24, 2013 at 05:22 #

Louise Roe is cute. Aishwarya outfit looks more high society wedding than for a red carpet event. But it’s nice nevertheless.

  11. Beth May 24, 2013 at 05:48 #

Aishwarya looks so beautiful! She is so working it.I can take the bling there.

  12. Noemi May 24, 2013 at 07:04 #

Why Aishwarya Rai keep on sporting ugly and aging hairstyles? I love the way she’s dressed, by the way. I also like Louise Roe, which I usually dislike. Janet Jackson… what’s that?

  13. admmgz May 24, 2013 at 07:05 #

I really like all of the looks w/ the exception of Janet Jackson.
    Bonnie looks pretty but forgettable.
Aishwarya has a little too much gold going on for my taste.
Louise looks fabulous although I would’ve preferred a different clutch.
Kat’s look is great- perfect amount of vamp & gothic beauty.
I totally agree that Ellie would’ve looked so much better if she’d had her hair styled to go along with the beautiful gown.
Such gorgeous ladies, such a variety of looks! I love it! :)

In brief, each look/actress could have done better.
What is very upsetting from a stylist and image coach point of view, is too see how they could dress these celebrities in colors that DO NOT compliment their context and also styles not appropriate of the event. Furthermore, if you have a dress but you do not have taken care of your hair and makeup for the event, better go home or at the beach, do not attend a gala event, unless you are totally prepared.

  15. Yeliz May 24, 2013 at 09:09 #

Louise Roe and Ellie Goulding look the best here. Love both looks.

  16. Ahot May 24, 2013 at 09:40 #

-Janet is always playing out of competition, so no judgement here though i agree with last year´s look being incredible

-Aishwarya is …. *sigh… perfection! BDOTD

-Kat is working it although i am still not sure about the hair especially with the lips+necklace

-Ellie should have made an effort with the hair +shoes

  17. Alicat May 24, 2013 at 10:05 #

Aishwarya Rai looks majestic here. There is so much gold but she can carry it. This really accentuates and flatters her voluptuous figure.

    • dee May 24, 2013 at 13:18 #

      +1

  18. Rashmi May 24, 2013 at 10:06 #

Love Aishwarya (So much gold, but she still makes it work and looks great! )
Lousie looks so charming! Love her dress!

    • dee May 24, 2013 at 13:18 #

      I agree.

  19. pene May 24, 2013 at 10:18 #

    no

  20. Julia May 24, 2013 at 10:37 #

    only like louis roe.

  21. Jess2 May 24, 2013 at 12:53 #

Aishwarya’s sari is exquisite! I also love Louise’s look.

  22. H May 24, 2013 at 13:39 #

The only one I dislike here is Janet Jackson, and Bonny Wright looks a LOT older with this look, even though is waaaayy better than last year. The others are ok, Louise Roe dress is not for a gala like amFar, but is ok. Aishwaria Rai looks stunning and really expensive; I also love the fact that a Patricia Bonaldi dress is finally hitting the red carpet, she is awesome and her sedigns are incredible!

  23. Ariel May 24, 2013 at 14:25 #

    I like only Aishwarya.

  24. DSI May 24, 2013 at 15:54 #

    You drape a sari, I suppose–not wrap! :)

  25. EmmaWoodhouse May 24, 2013 at 15:58 #

Aishwarya and Louise look AMAZING. The rest are not my cup of tea. AT ALL. Kat Graham looks like a mess with blonde hair.

  26. Moxie May 24, 2013 at 16:13 #

I am so tired of sheer bottom dresses.

I’m glad Bonnie put in an effort this time, although the look is a little mature.

    Aishwarya is my favorite.

  27. Sarah May 24, 2013 at 17:50 #

    Janet Jackson’s ensemble: Tacky.
    Janet Wright: Classy.
    Aishwarya: Classy.
Louise: Pretty. This purple is stunning on her. Not my personal liking for the purple and red together.
    Kate: Tacky.
    Ellie: Gaudy & Tacky

  28. k6wing May 24, 2013 at 17:56 #

Bonnie is dressing way too old for her age.

  29. Neli May 24, 2013 at 19:28 #

    No to all looks!

  30. Parvati May 24, 2013 at 19:29 #

Although Bonnie’s look ages her a bit, I like her look the most of all the looks here. I also really like Louise Roe’s look.

  31. kiwi May 24, 2013 at 19:52 #

Asihwarya’s saree is really tacky-the fabric is shiny and cheap looking, the hair is not working at all. I like Louise Roe here

  32. The Cherry Tree May 24, 2013 at 21:02 #

I feel a little weird saying this but…as simple & elegant as Bonnie Wright’s look is, it also ages her quite a bit. I almost didn’t recognize her at first! And yes, that IS too much gold on Aishwarya Rai. What else? Kat Graham should dye her hair black or dark brown; blond just doesn’t suit her skin tone…oh & great outfit – except for the unnecessary feather peplum. As for Ellie Goulding, I agree with FC about the hair. Also, the dress would’ve looked better if it were knee-length or a column, without the see-through bit.

  33. adrian May 24, 2013 at 22:53 #

I usually loathe the sheer skirts on these dresses, but digging Ellie’s

  34. B May 31, 2013 at 02:18 #

Hey! I’m from Brasil and I love RDFA! But I came here to say that the Ellie’s dress by Patricia Bonaldi becamed very famous last year when the super blogger Thassia Naves used they! I really prefer in Thassia, and you?
