Jessica Chastain In Versace Collection – ‘Cleopatra’ Cannes Film Festival Premiere

Jessica Chastain In Versace Collection - 'Cleopatra' Cannes Film Festival Premiere

Jessica Chastain returned to Cannes Film Festival, taking to The 60th Anniversary Theatre this evening for the ‘Cleopatra’ premiere in France.

The red-haired beauty looked regal, wearing a Versace Collection gown which was fit for a Queen.

Her long-sleeved off-white silk gown, featuring a cape which trailed behind her into a dramatic train, was styled with a stunning sapphire sautoir and the trombino sapphire ring from the Elizabeth Taylor Bulgari collection.

Jessica is giving us a preview of the upcoming Versace Collection Spring/Summer 2014.

From this look it would appear this collection will focus less on the studs, cut-outs and slashed-to-the-thigh gowns the brand is known for, but we will have to wait and see.

Fit for a queen is right… Queen Elizabeth. It’s frumpy and it makes it look like her boobs are hanging low. Add an ermine trimmed robe and we can have a coronation.

I love the look from the back but there is something wrong with the front look: I agree with some of the comments that there is this priest/nun impression and the necklace adds to it.

I come very close to loving this. She is lovely in white, the watteau train is gorgeous, and the necklace totally elevates the look. But the bodice of the gown is bunchy, looks hiked up, and is overall just illfitting. So close but so far.

    it’s an old-queen look

  5. asherlev1 May 22, 2013 at 02:07 #

seriously. how many people screaming ‘stylist sabotage’ WILL IT TAKE.

  6. MaddyEliza May 22, 2013 at 00:48 #

I love this!! It looks vintage, she looks beautiful, and the necklace can truly shine with a simple and elegant gown like this. That necklace…what a standout piece!

  7. Amy May 21, 2013 at 22:17 #

I’m not wowed by this. I’m getting a priest vibe. I really didn’t think this was a Versace: Interesting.

  8. Christina May 21, 2013 at 21:37 #

No No No NO… NO. Frumpy and ill-fitted.

    • Christine May 22, 2013 at 05:21 #

      So matronly too.

  9. Joy May 21, 2013 at 21:16 #

This is quite possibly the ugliest dress I’ve ever seen. Even uglier then the one she wore to the Golden Globes. Just horrible. I can’t even believe this is Versace.

  10. Sarah May 21, 2013 at 18:54 #

Elizabeth Taylor’s sapphire pendant is meant to be the focus of the look. I’m glad she chose this dress, it’s very elegant and reminds me of the ’30s. She looks very regal and sophisticated..

  11. justme May 21, 2013 at 18:54 #

The dress is pretty from the front (though it needed better tailoring, especially on top) and ugly from the back.
The necklace was a nice, needed touch.

I don’t like the necklace with this gown, I think that it called for statemnt earrings or a bracelet or both, but not a necklace, since the neckline is high and the detail is at the back. It reminds me A LOT of Angelina Jolie’s 2011 emerald green Versace Golden Globes dress, without the train and the actiual waistband, as opposd to cinched in waist, it is pretty much the same silhouette.

  13. dee May 21, 2013 at 18:51 #

I think this would look better with no sleeves. Glad she wore the necklace to give this some life.

  14. Prudence May 21, 2013 at 18:46 #

This dress is versace???? Wow, I am shocked, this dress is very plain and I am not liking that awkwardly placed train in the back. Also the color is awful on her, it fits her terribly in the front and that necklace is too long. This is definitely a thumbs down. I am also SO SO SO over these vintage hairstyles.

  15. Marybeth May 21, 2013 at 18:43 #

I like it, especially from the back.
The fit of the bodice is a bit casual or loose.
I wonder how this would have looked with her hair up or back and the necklace raised so that the sapphire fell right above her bust rather than at it.

  16. Ash May 21, 2013 at 18:40 #

I like it. Somehow it’s kinda vintage, it suits the event that she hosts.

  17. Amy May 21, 2013 at 18:30 #

She looks beautiful but I think the dress is stupid looking since it’s not really a cape, it just looks like an extra bit of fabric hanging.

    • Jumai May 21, 2013 at 18:59 #

Exactly! I think the cape looks weird and totally off. That’s one slender yet thick cape. Feels like it took a while for the designer or whoever sewed this dress to get it right.

  18. Moxie May 21, 2013 at 18:22 #

Beautiful dress, but not the best color on her.

  19. Nat39 May 21, 2013 at 18:21 #

I love the cleanness of the look and the cape detail adding a regal feel but it’s all starting to border on matronly and nun-like.

  20. DSI May 21, 2013 at 18:17 #

Long sleeve pleat skirted tunic- check, scapular cape- check, metal rosary chain with cross- check. A veil and wimple would have completed the nun’s habit!

    • Cooltweens May 21, 2013 at 23:37 #

lol… but I totally agree with you.

  21. Yeliz May 21, 2013 at 18:14 #

She looks outstanding. That necklace is truly stunning, I’m glad she wore it. Otherwise this gown would’ve looked a tad matronly. I love her styling. Thumbs up.

  22. Aj May 21, 2013 at 18:12 #

    She is perfection in this.

  23. Naama May 21, 2013 at 18:11 #

love this! the sleeves good have been shortened a bitbut otherwise I just think she looks gorgeous.

  24. Rebecca Z May 21, 2013 at 18:08 #

Isn’t the necklace the whole point? Isn’t that Elizabeth Taylor’s necklace?

    • v May 21, 2013 at 18:39 #

      It is. Love it!

    • Fiona-Brasil May 22, 2013 at 02:14 #

      Yes, it is!

    • MissCru May 22, 2013 at 02:15 #

OMG I didn’t realise that until you said it! What a great tribute to late Dame Elizabeth. BDOTD for that.

  25. DorianGray May 21, 2013 at 18:07 #

In Milan there’s always a lot of people in Versace Colleciton store, more than in Versace’s. I like the fact that this line is such a “greatest hits” of the Medusa’s best main features. I even like menswear (more wearable than Versace or Versus).

  26. justiner May 21, 2013 at 18:05 #

I don’t like it. The fit is off and maybe the dress would look better with the necklace worn backwards.

    • tom May 21, 2013 at 18:31 #

agree about the fit…plus it’s a little matronly.

    • Thomas May 21, 2013 at 18:40 #

I totally thought the same thing about the necklace!

  27. Pablo May 21, 2013 at 18:04 #

When I first saw her I thought the necklace wasn’t needed, but now I’m thinking maybe without it the look would’ve come off as too plain.

I’m not sure. What’s clear is the gown’s stunning and she looks spectacular.
