Solange Knowles In Kenzo – 2013 Met Gala

Big sister Beyonce is the honorary chair of the 2013 Met Gala tonight, but Solange Knowles still made sure to make her mark at New York’s Metropolitan Museum.

The songstress, who seemingly never fails to indulge us with her love of print, once again perked up the red carpet with this dizzyingly patterned dress by Kenzo matched with an Edie Parker box clutch.

If there’s one thing that can be said about this look, it definitely took punk to funk.

While fun, the semi-casual black-and-blue moment was a bit less dramatic than what I was expecting, even with the leg-baring slit sliced up the left side.

Standard black sandals were subdued, especially for Solange.

She did deliver the theatrics with her fabulous, signature ‘fro, which could quite possibly be the highest I’ve seen it.

Giant statement earrings, which reminded me of evil eyes, were bejewelled and big enough to banish any negative energy.

I loved this psychedelic disco look. The earrings are so wacky that I couldn’t help but be charmed by this look, and of course her hair delivers too 😉

Not only has the concept of this look been done so much by her, the dress is just boring especially for the MET (theme aside). Her earrings are killer but that dress is just so blah and ill fitting in the waist line, I guess I expected more from her seeing as she was one of the best dressed guests last year. All in all she gets a thumbs down and was one of my worst dressed!

I love this even though it doesn’t fit the theme.

More disco than punk. Love the dress, but would have preferred it at a different event.

There has been a lot of criticism with celebrities that didn’t translate the theme to their looks. Honestly, to me it is much preferred not to embrace the theme than look forced, trash and tacky like some celebrities did trying to impersonate it.
Punk is not these people style so it’s better to outstand in your way than try to fit into a style that has nothing to do with you.
That said I think Solange looks fabulous and gorgeous. That outfit couldn’t been more her.

ITA. Love this h2t. Can only say that about a handful of looks on this red carpet.

I wish she had gone punk. Those earrings are exquisite though!

Dress – blah, hair – fantastic, channeling Dream Girls and Diana Ross.

    Not feeling this look.

  11. Lyo May 7, 2013 at 02:57 #

Very pretty, but that’s nothing punk on this disco look.

I really don’t like her hair that big but, given the OTT nature of the event, I can easily forgive that.
I love her make-up and earrings.
I just don’t care for the dress. It’s not very flattering to her.

I don’t like the dress and I don’t like it on her. I love the clutch and the earrings.

  14. kane May 7, 2013 at 02:14 #

I like the clutch, but with a different dress and different earrings.

This is so funky but I love it.

“It definitely took punk to funk.”
lol exactly. Most of the people in attendance totally disregarded the (lame) them and it’s making me laugh.

I like the print but her top half looks boxy in this dress.

this was punk themed not disco nights….very disappointing.

I love this look so much but I agree with you. Another time and place yes, but if she actually took the theme in hand, I bet she would’ve done a spectacular job. I definitely expected more from her.
