Gwen Stefani In Maison Martin Margiela – 2013 Met Gala

GwenStefani

The punk theme of the 2013 Met Gala in New York City was not lost on Gwen Stefani, who is no stranger to a certain level of grunge appeal—and a good amount of leather and studs.

But the No Doubt songstress left off the shiny embellishment tonight, instead letting her custom confection by Maison Martin Margiela have center stage.

The elegant and edgy design, which featured an asymmetrical, midriff-flaunting tie bodice, was based on an all-black look that took to the Spring 2013 runway.

But this black-and-white version is far more interesting and Met Gala-appropriate.

Minimal Fred Leighton jewels completed the effect, although with such a dramatic shoulder detail, the necklace wasn’t really necessary.

Like other stars, Gwennie contributed an added dose of punk to her look with her beauty choices, including an angular, architectural updo for her platinum hair and a bright-red matte colour for her pout.

Talk about a fashion rebel with a cause.

Not loving it. I could see a bridesmaid wearing this.

  • Jai

    I love it.

  • Gabby M

from what ive seen so far, GWEN you couldve saved us all from all this tragedy, but nooo… I dont understand what is happening with that skirt? Is it the pose? Either way… it is not fitting right :/

  • jas

i LOVE her. she is punk glamour personified

  • kim

So into it! I would like this in my closet pls.

  • I like it, I’ll like it even more if she had a different skirt though.

  • Lyo

All she needed was a slinkier and figure huging skirt, and she’d have my BDOTW vote….

    • Lyo

The top (AWESOME), hair and make-up says everything, she doesn’t need that messy skirt…

The shape and tailoring of the skirt doesn’t work for me. I like the top.
Overall it’s okay — but, considering the theme, I expected more from Gwen.

  • Alicat

I really like this look. The top is really unusual and fits and flatters her so well. I also prefer it teamed with the white skirt. Hair and makeup are spot on. Considering her musical roots I would have expected something edgier, but then I remember the pink hair and braces on her teeth! She has come a long way…

  • Prudence

    i loveeee!!!!!

  • EmmaWoodhouse

I despise the bodice and the skirt is not much better. A really awful look imo, even though her hair and makeup fit the theme.

It looks cheap and amauterish to me.

I think it’s working, she is selling this look to me, would’ve preferred it w/o the necklace but I don’t mind it much – I think it somewhat completes the look.

  • justme

No Doubt is a pop punk band so it would have been a disgrace for Gwen to miss the mark… and yet, I was expecting more from her.

She looks lovely and coherent with the theme (love that odd top bun) but something is missing imo.

  • Yeliz

I’ve tried to love this, but I can’t. The gown looks cheap to me.

  • Rafael

    LOVE HEEERRRRRR

    • Anj

Hallelujah for Gwen Stefani is all I can say. She rocks this look and shows most of the others how to dress appropriately for this event.

    • Jess2

I second Anj’s hallelujah! She is so good! I was wondering who was going to wear MMM, I’m very happy!

  • Christine

Call me crazy but she is making this look work. She look rebel-ish.
