Elle Fanning In Rodarte – 2013 Met Gala

Elle Fanning In Rodarte - 2013 Met Gala

Unlike her sister Dakota, who took a subtle approach to the night’s red carpet, Elle Fanning made quite a style statement at the Met Gala.

While her Rodarte tie-died swirl gown is decidedly more psychedelic than punk, it’s fun and youthful and a great choice for a 15-year-old on a red carpet.

And then there’s her makeup. The over-the-top winged navy and red eye shadow is the perfect match to the gown, and I definitely give her props for having fun with the theme, but is that actually punk? I’m not sure, but once again, you can’t fault a teenager for having a little fun on a night like tonight!

Are you liking Elle’s dramatic look, or is it too left field?

Perfection. My best dressed of the night.

Not feeling the makeup. I prefer Dakota ress to this.

That makeup is awful. Her face is really shiny.

It is, truly, more psychedelic than punk but I think it’s a very fun look! Crazy but it works for this evening! Hailee Steinfeld has her beat in my book, though.

      I agree.

She’s having fun but I prefer her sister’s outfit.

Is it a favorite? No. But it works and it’s fun/interesting. So thumbs up.

I am so over Elle’s fashion. Thank god we can’t see her shoes.
Her hair looks awful and her makeup looks frightening. Is she trying to look like an insect? I just don’t get it.
The bodice looks like a tablecloth and I don’t like the tie-dye print of the skirt. The dress itself was built for someone more statuesque.

Some people say Kerry was costumey…for me, THIS is the epitome of costumey and try-hard.

    Well done!

Sorry, but some tap water and soap would improve this look wonders. Dress is not bad, but she looks like some crazy lady.

+1, soap and water, rotflmao. That makeup is fun house worthy. I guess I’m just not getting this punk thing, lol.

I feel bad for saying it because she’s young, but I detest EVERYTHING she wears including her styling. In this case, it’s even worse than usual. I’m sorry but this entire look is just plain ugly.

    • Kate May 7, 2013 at 05:38 #

You’re not alone in that opinion.
I love that she experiments but surely there’s someone around to tell her when she actually has good results and when she doesn’t?

This look is bad. I don’t understand the praise of her “edginess” because the final product does her no favors.

She needs some darker definition around the eyes in order to make the colours work. And her hair looks ratty :( Shame because it could’ve been phenomenal with the gown.

  13. Nat May 7, 2013 at 03:25 #

She looks like a homeless from the 90s. I loathe this entire look. Not even the hair is done properly.

Elle’s look is very interesting. I understand it is probably quite a polarising look but I think she exudes such confidence with her fashion choices for someone so young.

This is cool people. THIS IS COOL !

  16. NovuyoM May 7, 2013 at 09:21 #

I hate to say this but I can’t help but get “psychedelic menstrual cycle” vibes from this dress every time I look at it.

  17. Gabby M May 7, 2013 at 09:51 #

    lol. im sry. no.

  18. RW May 7, 2013 at 10:26 #

The dress is interesting. The makeup is not best suited for her face. The exaggerated winged eyes makes her round cheeks look odd.

  19. JJovana3 May 7, 2013 at 14:49 #

    THIS IS PUNK? Please.

  20. Moxie May 7, 2013 at 16:16 #

It would have worked better if the makeup had been toned down a bit. It comes off more customey than chic. More psychedelic than punk.

  21. Parvati May 8, 2013 at 00:20 #

I appreciate that she opted for something edgy, but her make-up is just scary.

  22. Angela May 8, 2013 at 05:30 #

I love the psychedelic rock look she was going for. Surprisingly, this was one of my faves of the event. The makeup is pure art. The dress is insane, but what is creativity if not innovation. I’m still in shock. Adore.

I am absolutely disgusted by her eye makeup.
Judging from her shoe choice alone, I had decided not to like her taste. And now her makeup reinforces my decision.
