Ashley Olsen In vintage Dior & Mary-Kate Olsen In vintage Chanel - 2013 Met Gala

Don’t be surprised that the Olsen twins opted to go vintage and oversized at the 2013 Met Gala on Monday evening; after all, this is their red carpet M.O.

Ashley Olsen: The designer’s beaded orange Dior Couture dress with a sheer overlay is a beautiful design, but for some reason made me think of one of Andre Leon Tally’s capes.

Mary-Kate Olsen: This look was my least favourite of the two; her Chanel beaded, drop-waist black dress would’ve been so much better without the fur-trimmed robe.

Which Olsen look works better for you?

Ashley? Mary-Kate? Or none-of-the-above?

One wonders if the words; belt, or waist-nipping mean anything to these girls.

I’ve never really understood why these twins are called fashionistas, and this proves it to me. Especially Mary-Kate, she looks awful to me.

Their baggy boho heiress style is so 2005.

    No words.
Apparently “punk” translates to flying squirrel and wizard.
The fact that they have a fashion marque is mildly disturbing to me.

I don’t really care for Mary-Kate’s look, as I always hate what she wears. (Although I admit that if she hadn’t worn the coat, it might have been a good look.)
As for Ashley (whose style I like more than Mary-Kate’s), she also looks bad. I think what bothers me the most is her hair. I think it’s what makes it look like she didn’t try at all. If she had opted for a chic bun, this could have been a great look.

Ashley is very sophisticated – maybe not in theme with the event (but, who cares?), but perfectly embodying the minimalist-but-not-so-minimalist spirit of the SS’13 season. Very smart choice. Certainly one of the best dressed.

Ashley looks beautiful. She looks like she gonna float on that red carpet any minute now lol! A lil innovation with the hair and makeup wouldn’t hurt though….

is anyone else shocked they were photographed standing separately?

That Chanel dress looks like it could be gorgeus, too bad we can’t see more of it. Though, I have to say, at leat their attitude is very punk/I don’t give a damn.

I think they both look beautiful, boho and vintage chic!

Hahaha. Ok, really? Ashley’s look is interesting, but not punk at all–and let’s face it, sparkly caftans are not the most amazing thing in the world. Mary Kate’s look is just comical. She’s like the Queen of some really, really sartorially-challenged place. And both their hair needs some styling.

She looks like Gandalf. Seriously, what is that?

They look like crazy old ladies who call cops on you when you party too hard. So much fabric, so much terrible hair…I cant even.

Without the cape Ashley would had looked so much better.

I like Ashley’s look but not her sisters.

MK is a hot mess. I know that the homeless chis is her thing but this is downright awful. Her hair is also messy. So disappointing
Ashley looks nice. There’s something classy coming of that dress even if there’s too much fabric.

  18. Fiona-Brasil May 7, 2013 at 11:12 #

They both look like a mess.A hot mess though.I love them equally!

Underneath all that overwhelming fabric are two young women. There is nothing positive I can say.

  20. Jess2 May 7, 2013 at 10:17 #

That robe is a total look killer. I am not overly excited about either look but if I had to choose, Ashley’s look isn’t bad.

I like Mary Kate’s dress, it’s a shame the coat ruins it !

  22. mandy May 7, 2013 at 07:15 #

    This calls for fashion rehab.

  23. Christine May 7, 2013 at 06:57 #

    I don’t mind Ashley’s look.

  24. Sammy C May 7, 2013 at 06:48 #

Ashley. I guess you don’t feel you have to know what waist nipping is when you’re that petite. Some outfits do require it whether you are curvy or not, I agree, but its not the case here.

  25. jas May 7, 2013 at 06:45 #

    I LOVE Ashley’s look – amazing!
I agree with you re MK. Didn’t need the jacket, although it in itself is pretty amazing.

  26. JenniferA. May 7, 2013 at 06:37 #

MK for me because at least her hair goes with her outfit. Ashley’s hair has no business being anywhere near that Dior!

  27. Yeliz May 7, 2013 at 06:32 #

None-of-the-above, but Mary-Kate looks worse than Ashley.

  28. Gabby M May 7, 2013 at 06:32 #

Im loving that silk robe! But the other twin is too ethereal for my taste, kindve reminds me of a angel tree topper

  29. Mahima May 7, 2013 at 06:32 #

    I love Ashley’s look.
