Coach 3rd Annual Evening Of Cocktails And Shopping To Benefit The Children’s Defense Fund
A bright crop of starlets turned out for the third annual Coach cocktail party and shopping event to benefit the Children’s Defense Fund, hosted by ‘Star Trek’ movie producer-director J.J. Abrams on the rooftop of his Bad Robot production company in Santa Monica, California on Wednesday. Coach clutches, handbags and totes proved to be the night’s hottest accessory, as many PYTs no doubt plucked up a new purse for their collections.
Chloe Sevigny: Always one to keep us guessing, the actress went for a rather girly approach in this printed Balenciaga dress that immediately had me wanting to fix that lopsided black bow at the waist. I also couldn’t get past the white tongue flap on those Balenciaga peep-toe shoes—or their mauve-purple colour that clashed with her coral-pink Coach clutch. An orange lippie proved another dissonant tone, although it matched the logo behind her.
Abigail Spencer:Â Donning a creamy DKNY Spring 2013 dress, the actress was chic and polished. She prevented sartorial boredom with a fuchsia handbag and melon-hued ankle-strap sandals. Loose waves and a glowing complexion finished off this breezy look.
Kate Mara:Â The ‘House of Cards’ star mixed masculine and feminine, showing a flash of skin in a Vena Cava sheer crop top with ruffled sleeve paired with black Parker peg pants and Brian Atwood’s ‘Wagner’ peep-toe heels. A Dannijo necklace was well-placed and added just the right amount of sparkle.
Jennifer Morrison: Perhaps it’s Jennifer’s straight-shooting, tomboy character on the TV drama, ‘Once Upon A Time,’ that had me second-guessing this costume, ahem ensemble. The dropped-waist dress with metallic piping and the silver T-strap shoes were full-on flapper. Did she look pretty? Yes—for a Great Gatsby-themed party.
Ariel Winter: With her newly auburn locks on glossy display, this ‘Modern Family’ girl had me overlooking my disdain for creepy-crawlers in her McQ Alexander McQueen scarab-print dress. Even I could get behind these beetles. The flared silhouette was youthful, and the deep magenta colour looked great with Ariel’s hair. I just wish she had selected less clunky shoes.
Mena Suvari:Â Taking a more dramatic approach to her dress for the evening, Mena turned heads in long sleeves and leather. I loved the streamlined effect punctuated by the flared peplum waist here, especially with her pulled-back hair and well-placed Danielle Queller jewels. It’s hard to argue with a Jimmy Choo. But the ankle strap of her ‘Tame’ pumps bothered me.
Milla Jovovich: The model-actress played with proportions in her oversized jacket and skinny cropped pant. With pushed-up sleeves, a deep pink lippie and a simple clutch, plus the best part—those shoes—Milla gives us a lesson in how to look cool without even seemingly trying.
Emmanuelle Chriqui:Â The Canadian actress also went for a jacket-and-pants look. The white blazer over black top and the floral-print pant seemed fresh. But I would have preferred she style her hair differently and add a bold lip, as her look seemed unfinished from the shoulders up.
January Jones:Â Always the picture of sophistication, the ‘Mad Men’ star delivered another classic entrance with her exploded floral print Sami & Lavi ‘Clementine Blue Bell’ dress. A neutral trench added a touch of masculine edge, ensuring the frock stayed away from anything too twee. A neon-orange lip provided a bright finish that I loved.
Hailee Steinfeld: The young, up-and-coming starlet went for a monochrome look that was nice, but not memorable. A more dynamic shoe or bag would have worked wonders.
Michelle Trachtenberg:Â While I’m glad Michelle accented her standard LBD with some sizzle via an embellished necklace, Tory Burch’s gold ‘Maya’ cuff and Tory Burch ‘Cecilia’ snake skin pumps, this look still fell a little flat. I’m not sure the shoulder-strap Coach bag quite worked either.
Sophia Bush:Â Carrying a similar Coach clutch as Chloe, except in a deep fuchsia, Sophia added a jolt of colour to her ensemble. With the unflattering silhouette of her rumpled beige and blue dress and those heavy black Charlotte Olympia ‘Dolly’ pumps, the bag was about all I liked.
