Kate Mara In Kate Young For Target - Kate Young For Target Launch Event

Kate Mara worked the red carpet at the Kate Young for Target Launch Event in New York City last night.

The actress wore a yellow beaded Kate Young For Target Dress, $59.99, with Brian Atwood ‘Wagner’ peep-toes.

I think very few women look good with their hair pulled tightly back, but Kate is definitely one of them. I love that she’s got her hair up and back, so that you can see the beading and form of this dress.

Yet somehow, it doesn’t look as youthful and fun on Kate as it does on the model. Does she just need the red lip like the model? Or is it the longer length that throws things off? I can’t quite decide, but it just doesn’t seem as fresh and appealing as it does on the model.

Help me out: what makes the dress look so much less joyful on Kate?

She can carry off that hair, but she looks softer with it down.. The dress is cute but her styling–cuff, shoes, clutch really brings it down.

I’d add more playful sandals, clutch and red carpet charisma.

The length plus severe hair brings this look down

I feel the dress itself is amazing, but its the strict lips, and too rigid a hairdo that’s making her look less joyful ..! The shoes are amazing but I still feel- a smile and some rouge with a red pout could have done the trick! If we’re comparing photos, the model looks quirky and fun! But on the opposite side- I guess the caption should be “why so serious?”.

the length! and the shoes. she definitely needed funner, lighter shoes.

Yep, it’s because of the length that this look is less joyful on Kate. But what I’m bothered by is the thing on her arm, it looks awkward. Overall though, I do like the look, even though she can do and did better.

I think it’s beacuse on Kaate it’s longer than on the model.

I love her hair like this, but not with this dress. A ponytail would accomplished two goals–showing off the detail on the dress and making the look more youthful. More interesting shoes would have helped too. Her minimal smile is kind of a downer too–she doesn’t look enthusiastic.

Shes missing red lip. But she looks nice.

She definitely has the bone structure to pull of the pulled back look, but she needed a bright red lippy.

I always find her style good but now she1s too boring.

Looking like you want to be where you are and are comfortable wearing what you’re wearing..this would go a long way to upping the wow factor of this cuye dress

  13. Pippo April 10, 2013 at 16:39 #

    I think she needed a smile. 🙂

I don’t think it’s the length that is the problem here, nor the make-up. It’s the too officey shoes —taupe? grey? what? — the black clutch, and the gold cuff, none of which complement the dress.
Then she needs to add a great big smile.

A smile, a broader and fun smile 😉

She does look great apart from that!

I think it is a combo of: the severe hair, longer length, subdued makeup, boring accessories, uninspired shoe choice and the color of the dress is softer than in the photo. I agree a red lip alone would have taken this look up several notches.

For me, Kate can do little or no wrong. I love this look, but if a gun were held to my head I’d say a red look would have knocked it out even more.

A red lip ** not “look”
