Hilary Swank In Valentino – 2013 Vanity Fair Party

2013VanityFair_HilarySwank

Hilary Swank had everyone seeing red, as she kept the Valentino trend going at the 2013 Vanity Fair Oscars Party at Hollywood’s Sunset Tower on Sunday night.

Wearing a crimson gown from the design house’s Spring 2013 Couture runway, the actress couldn’t be missed at Graydon Carter’s soiree.

With this sheer, long-sleeve entrance, I found myself wondering three things: Is there such thing as too much red? Is it possible to be seductively sexy and vaguely matronly at once? And how many times will her daringly long train be stepped on throughout the evening?

Hilary’s exaggerated, side-swept retro wave was right on trend, but a simple updo might have fared better with this extravagant gown.

With the criss-cross bodice and the see-through quality, I was actually reminded of Rihanna’s 2013 Grammy Awards dress.

Did you think this look was on fire, or did it need to be extinguished?

A Swarovski clutch completed her look.

Well, Valentino again and it has to be one of the best Valentino looks of the night, because she looks absolutely amazing.

She looks good in this … however Sally Field’s Oscar dress and Rihanna’s Grammy one makes the outfit feel too familiar and a little stale.

it seems like a cross between the two.

the train is too long for me to be comfortable at an after party. and this look would have benefited from a soft wispy updo. then it would have looked less OTT.

Agree. In fact I much prefer Rihanna’s Alaia. This is too fussy.

        They all look the same.

I adore this gown. But I’m with you, FC. A simpler updo was required here.

Although this is a party look, I am shocked with the similarity of this and Sally Field’s gown.

In my opinion, this shouldn’t happen in Oscars, especially when you are going with Valentino.

Exactly. Someone from Valentino’s staff should have told Hilary’s reps that ‘Hey, Sally’s wearing a similar gown and she’s a nominee, why don’t go for one of the other 123 thousands of dresses we have here?’. It’s the least you can expect from such a famous brand.

      And I prefer Sally’s version.

At first I thought she and SField was wearing the same gown, the latter is the winner for me.

The first thing I thought was Sally Fields. I adore Sally Fields, but she is a lot older so I think that image was already in my head from earlier in the night. Then to see Hillary at the after parties, it ages her unfortunately.

I hate to be nit picky, but if her hair was different I think I would have liked it better. An updo would have been lovely.

And like others, I much preferred Rihanna’s Alaia.

I agree on the hair, my thoughts exactly. The should have been up.

Like the others have said — this is a cross between Rihanna’s Alaia gown and Sally Fields’ Oscar gown, and an unfortunate one at that. The long sleeves were more appropriate on someone older, like Sally Fields. The train would be fine on the red carpet (if the dress were sleeveless), but it just doesn’t work at a party.

This look does not work for me. There is definitely something aging about the whole look. As a few have mentioned, her hair doesn’t work with this gown.

    Also, the train isn’t appropriate.

I agree with you. Not liking this gown at all, while i did actually Rhianna’s.

She looks amazing and you can never be too extravagant or too red at the Oscars in my opinion!

  10. EmmaWoodhouse February 25, 2013 at 15:17 #

if only it were lined all the way! Then I would love it, though I might hack off the long sleeves and leave them at cap sleeves. With that sheer skirt, though, I’m sad. :(

  11. amparo February 25, 2013 at 16:41 #

It is difficult to compete with Rihana but it is worse here due to the hairdo. It is horrible!

  12. jeremyrain February 25, 2013 at 16:52 #

Is the whole party’s dress code is “Valentino”?

  13. Prudence February 25, 2013 at 17:24 #

wasnt sally field wearing this dress ?
this is too much. They should have removed the sleeves.

  14. Stel February 25, 2013 at 18:35 #

Beautiful hair, beautifl dress, gorgeous woman!

  15. Kateryna February 25, 2013 at 21:46 #

This colour is wrong for her and the hair does not look nice.

  16. Liz February 26, 2013 at 00:25 #

Love the gown. She looks amazing. It’s too bad she wasn’t at the ceremony, so it could be shown off more. It seems too much for a party.
