After her fierce foray onto the red carpet of Sunday’s 2013 BAFTA Awards, Zawe Ashton maintained her sartorial shock factor at the 2013 Elle Style Awards the following evening.
The British actress was a silver bullet at London’s Savoy Hotel, as she donned her second Julien Macdonald look in as many days.
Compacted with rows and rows of silver, mirror-like studs, this geometric, plunge gown had quite the reflective properties—and some sort of glam sci-fi vibe that I’m still trying to figure out.
She paired the look with jewellery from H. Stern and Annoushka, a silver Jimmy Choo ‘Ciggy’clutch and Christian Louboutin heels.
With such a strong fashion statement, I would have liked her beauty to be softer. Her hair was just too severe and the makeup far too much.
Equal parts provocative and rebel-chic, Zawe had no problem grabbing stares from the stylish Elle guest list.
Did you think this look was out-of-this-world or just way too over-the-top?

Sorry, falls flat for me.
I’m not sure if it’s her posture, but the crooked set of plunge is really… terrible. I don’t like the sheer fabric either. Hair is too helmet like and the makeup doesn’t suit a “space age” look. Nope, nope, nope.
While I appreciate the effort, I’m not feelin’ it.
The bodice looks wonky- her “girls” are so very mashed, and I can’t tell if the plunge’s asymmetry is on purpose or just needs to be yoinked into place.
Eyebrows look like she drew them in with an off-center stencil and a Sharpie. If you’re trying to rock a short hair, minimal make-up look, those brows need to be perfection.
Way ott.
The dress is tacky due to the plunging sheer neckline, and OTT due to the shiny stiffness. Her hair and makeup look too shiny as well.
+1
Fierce, beautiful amazon! Fight for fashion!
I like this actually. Much better than her last outing.
Ignoring the wonky plunge neckline, I really like this dress and think she could’ve done well by it. But I agree that the styling is distractingly off. I’m not sure what the hair is trying to be, and her eye make up is not working. As someone else said, what’s going on with her eyebrows?
Tacky, gawdy, over the top… not to mention dated – screams 2009!
I’m pretty sure I remember Amber Heard wearing this and doing it so much better.
Was thinking the exact same thing! Amber wore it to the Art of Elysium in 2011
This isn’t working at all, the makeup is the worst part.
The dress is fine, although the sheer panel should have been closer to her skin tone.
But the hair and makeup are awful. It looks like her eyebrows have been drawn on.
Not feeling it. It just doesn’t quite work.
Not feeling it. It just doesn’t quite work. I keep thinking of Grace Jones in this dress–now that would work!
I like the dress a lot, and Ashton has the body for it. Yet, Amber Heard had the right styling and most importantly, the perfect attitude.
