I was very excited to see Adele take to the red carpet this evening in California at the 2013 Grammy Awards for two reasons.
Firstly, Adele is wearing a colour other than black for a refreshing, long overdue, change; and the shorter version of her Valentino Spring 2013 Couture dress works better for me at knee-length.
The original length could’ve been quite unflattering, overly fussy and not really event appropriate.
Save the longer length for Keira Knightley I say.
Her red-and-black embroidered frock with a full voluminous skirt was styled with matching pumps.
A sweeping updo and glossy lips completed her look.
Do you love this departure from her usual style, or is it not working for you?

I absolutely love this! I love dresses like this and i don’t care about the grandma, tablecloth comments. I do wish her hair was down, though or just a bit more done. Otherwise, lovely and I’m glad she’s not wearing black. She’s blossoming and her makeup is always on point.
No sorry not working. Do like that she’s not wearing black for a change but this is too fussy and I can’t help but think of ‘I’m a little teapot’ when I look at her.
Agree 100%
I agree.
+4. Not for the grammys
Looooooving her bold choice
Same! Love it
Oh dear, I so wanted to see her in something other than black. These colors look lovely on her, but the pattern is rather mesmerizing and not in a good way. I don’t see her figure. My eyes get stuck on the pattern. The shortened length is good but a more open neckline would’ve been even better.
Agree completely, the high neckline is a bit much, a more open neckline would make it less matronly
Couldn’t agree more about the pattern and the neckline.
Love it!!! So nice to see her out of black. Like it more than the runway version.
i love adele but she looks like the queen of spades or something from alice in wonderland – and i say that in a negative way!
omg i thought the samething! thank you! haha
She looks lovely. This is a great dress for her.
all I can say you are blind talent is talent ugly is ugly she is a fabulous singer but she had to look in the mirrow and say ” I don’t think so”
where were her friends?? Someone needed to tell her No!!!!
The fussy colourful print, the cut, the voluminous skirt are a very bad choice for her body type, they only widen her visually. The matching printed pumps are a bit too much. This is all wrong for her.
Totally agree, no surprise we are begging for the black dresses to come back!
Completely agree. Glad to see her wearing something other than black, but this isn’t working.
I 100% second that- all so unflattering.
I love this shorter version and the dress itself but not so much on Adele. She looks beautiful but something else could have been a little more flattering.
I was thrilled to see Adele in this dress, it looks great!!
I didn’t dislike, but the shoes ruined the look and give me a vibe of flamenco!
no not all even though she is wearing a colour other than black but no she looks like an english granny teapot no
I actually involuntarily laughed out loud when I saw this. It is like she is dressed in hideous Edwardian wallpaper.
Yeah. Totally agree. What was she thinking? It makes her look so BIG.
I wish that they used the bodice pattern of the runway version to create Adele’s look instead of the huge pattern of the skirt which unfortunately does not flatter her.
What a good suggestion! If they had used the smaller, less bold pattern on the skirt and perhaps cut the volume down a bit, this could have worked very well.
The red and rose colors really do look wonderful on her.
i agree with paulo and marybeth a 100 per cent. the same thought kinda flashed my mind when i saw the picture. otherwise it’s not black so i’m just okay with this.
I am so thrilled to see her in a COLOR that I can overlook the fact that I wouldn’t be crazy about this dress on anyone else.
It’s the Grammys, so I think a quirky print fits right in. Any other occasion and this wouldn’t be appropriate.
Let’s go easy on her, everyone, or she might be scared back into her boring black ensembles.
It’s not an easy look to wear but I was excited by this look–it steps out of her box, is fun and color and very different. I get the tea pot/wallpaper references that are being made, and it’s certainly not everyone’s *cup of tea*
, but this bold look works for me! I love the shoes especially.
+1, 100%
ITA
Agrees! She looks really good
Well, it looks much better in photos than it did on screen, but still. No. It just looked like moving wallpaper.
I love it … I just wish if she chose a classic black pump
I LOVE it!! She looks amazing. Whoever says curvy women can’t wear prints like this was just proved oh so wrong.
This is AMAZING, I love every detail of this outfit!
love the color, love the print but the shape is odd. She looks like a bibendum . I’m glad she picked a bold color but this isn’t working, the shape just ruins it and does nothing for her figure
I love seeing Adele on the red carpet, she always looks joyous and appreciative. I love that she didn’t go safe and wear black, and she pulls off the pattern well, and her hai and makeup is perfect. Honestly, with most of the posts I’ve seen for the Grammys so far, this will be the only one I’ll remember!
LOVE IT!! It is a lot of print, but she carries it off with confidence – and I quite like the shape on her too. Great change from her usual style.
Hmm. Not sure I like the dress…but I am SO glad to see her wearing something other than black.
Hate the pumps though. With such a busy dress, they should have been a solid colour.
I don’t mean to insult her weight, but she looks like a walking umbrella. I’ve never seen a dress so unflattering on anyone. This print and hairdo are doing her no favors. She looks about 48 years old. If I didn’t know better, I’d say she was the same age or older than Nicole Kidman.
She looks STUNNING!
I really wish she didn’t wear matching shoes. It would have made her look a bit less matronly.
Stuffed sofa.
I really like it, but i think I need a belt to really love it. And some strong black shoes.
I love it! It’s so weird but in a good way. I like it when artists tap into their creative side for looks that are controversial, it’s working well for her imo!
everything you said. She is oozing confidence & that is sexy!
she was my best surprise of the night
I find it cute but when i look at her I see this russan Matrjoschka.
I love this look for Adele – she looks gorgeous! BDOTW please
Refreshing! I dig. It’s humoristic, unpretentious and she rocks it with great confidence as she does with everything.
She looks like a sofa. Honestly, we all know she likes retro hairstyles and make up. I think that her hairstyles ages her so much. But let’s be honest, this dress would look good on Keira because she’s Keira and can work this kind of dresses well. I don’t like the way the sleeves have been modified, it makes everything too heavy. And sorry, I must write this even if it doesn’t concern fashion. She has a great voice for sure, but her music is soooo boring.
Agree on all counts. While I love seeing her branch out beyond floor-length black dresses, Adele needs to learn that there are certain things certain people don’t look good in. It’s different for everyone, but that’s also why people have stylists to help them choose the RIGHT kind of clothing.
I literally loled at this
Cute shoes tho! love kitten heels, but of course the shoes wouldve only worked with an understated dress…
btw worst dressed!
Joyous!
❤
I’m confused why the entire top wasn’t the same pattern like the sleeves. I think it’d break it up a bit. Looks too bulky with the bigger pattern both up and down. Other than that, it’s really interesting and refreshing. I do love that length of skirt.
OMG what fresh hell is this? She could choose Valentino and this is the print she took? Could they choose a more ‘grandma’s basement garment” for her?
No, just no. The print is fun but everything else is wrong here. Starting with the stumpifying high collar, the square bodice, the lampshade cut of the skirt. I think this could have worked in the runway form (slight v-neckline, different bodice pattern, floral gauze for the sleeves and floor length). The alterations ruin the look for me.
looks like a ‘capinha de botijão de gás’
Love!!! I so want this dress. I love that she is not wearing black. She looks beautiful!
I love it. She looks happy, the color is great and she looks like she is having fun and not taking things to seriously.
I absolutely love this.
love her, she is beautiful but this dress is like a tea cosy.
I LOVE this. It’s such a big step out of her comfort zone but it really pays off. She’s shining! I know it’s only Monday, but if this doesn’t manage to make it into the BDOTW list, it’ll have been a very strong week.
Happy to see her out of black. This is fun and the print looks cute on her. Hope she repeats wearing colour.
Love it. Love the shape, love the shoes, love the color.
As much as I love the fact that Adele finally wore something that isn’t black, this unfortunately doesn’t work for me. When you think off the boldness it’s a great look though.
I think she should take a lesson or two from my mother on how to be oversized and dress nicely. I believe big, bold prints are number two on her absolute no-no list, right between giant tents and vibrant-hued minis.
I don’t mind the dress, it’s a lovely dress, just the shoes. Too matchy-matchy (the earings was matchy enough for me)
