Zawe Ashton exudes a strong rebel chic vibe at the 2013 BAFTA Awards held at the Royal Opera House in London on Sunday.
I’m usually a big fan of the Zawe’s red carpet choices, but I can’t get behind this busy Julian McDonald Spring 2012 number.
The all-over embroidery and sheer skirted bottom on this gown induced some serious detail overkill; which had the actress looking a touch too theatrical on the red carpet.
Perfect for the Grammys, not so much on a cold rainy night in London for the BAFTAs.

Not liking this look.
May not be quite event-appropriate, but I think she is rocking this tricky look.
…and also thumbs up from me for wearing ankle-strap shoes with the sheer skirt like this. That being said, I also dislike the dress itself.
Me too! She looks great, edgy. Love it
Ditto. She looks amazing.
Despising the sheer skirt trend, and the octupus like embroidery of this look…
Couldn’t agree more.
I LOVE this. It’s different and sexy. I do think it would’ve been better at an event like the Grammys, though.
She can’t use it anymore on Grammys, with the new dress code. Maybe that’s why she’s using it here. Ugly choice, one way or another.
Not a good look. All over the place.
“All over the place.”
Well said.
I am not a believer in the “wrong event” philosophy. She looks unique, rebellious, and sexy. Sure, it would’ve looked more home at the Grammys but it shouldnt be nullified.
Fierce fashionista! Btw FC, will Alice Eve be featured? She rocked an Alessandra Rich
if you look on the site you will see that she has been featured already.
It’s over used but ‘fierce’ was the first word that came to me when I saw this. She’s selling it a lot more than the model. That said I still prefer her Chalayan and Sarah Baadarani looks.
I totally agree – works well on her compared to on the catwalk. That Chalayan dress was perfect on her and Sarah Baadarani too was so gorgeous and wish we saw it without the jacket.
I’m predisposed to dislike this as I hate the sheer trend but she really is working this. Kudos.
I agree with the “all over the place” comment on this dress. She’s doing as well as may be with it, but it’s still a slightly crazy dress (imo).
Went back and forth on this one, ended up on the “love it” side of the fence. The warrior princess vibe really appeals to me. She’s making some interesting choices, looking forward to seeing her on future RCs.
