Sarah Jessica Parker attended the 2013 BAFTA Awards on Sunday at the Royal Opera House in London, England.
You could say her dark Elie Saab ensemble from the Pre-Fall 2013 collection somewhat played to the cold and rainy mood.
It was a solid jumpsuit in theory, with its structured bodice and waist detail and the mini keyhole, all paired with plain black pumps. (SJP was no doubt much warmer than some of the other stars on the red carpet, too.)
But the end result just didn’t translate quite as dynamically for this actress.
In this case, the addition of the metallic gold belt from the designer’s lookbook might have provided a sleeker, waist-defining edge.
The diamond necklace, which perhaps was added to dress up the look, didn’t work well with the high neckline.
All in all, I couldn’t help but be a bit underwhelmed, if only because I was expecting a bolder statement, especially given the recent looks (remember the furry blue Misha Nonoo ensemble and the exhilarating fuchsia Maison Martin Margiela gown) we’ve seen from this stylista.
No matter; SJP will no doubt up the style-forward ante on another occasion.

For a jumpsuit, I actually like it pretty well. But it’s SO boring for the event. This is the BAFTAs! Not a photocall! The necklace is great, though.
+1
I actually really like the necklace with it. But I agree great outfit, wrong event.
Can hardly look past that stance of hers, she needs to work on that, wish she had kept the belt but ditched the necklace, and opted for a more inspiring shoe. Very underwhelming overall.
+1
Very boring choice indeed.
Agreed! Very underwhelming.
The SJP I love is not the one I see. It would seem plain for anyone else, seeing this on her is almost depressing.
The word that best fits this look is awkward. The necklace looks awkward with the neckline, the separation between the too and the pants is very awkward and needed a belt, the skin between her pants and the pumps is awkward, and her hair is limp just to top it off. Atrocious to me.
+1
I think you covered it well!
I suspect this would look great on a taller woman, yet jumpsuits are rarely built to suit longer torsos.
I’d have liked to see a coloured shoe.
the standing position looks awkward. She should keep the belt.
if she wore this to a casual red carpet event it would be great, but this is an award show and she should have went for drama. i actually wish she wore the margiela dress to this event.
It’s all so subdued and not in a chic minimalist way a snazzy evening belt may have made this a good look another more casual event.
I actually quite like this. Although I have to say that celebrities tend to change the styling of the piece just so that it looks like they did their own interpretation of it, but more often than not the runway styling is a better way to go and for a reason.
Whenever women wear pants on a red carpet I’m delighted. I think she looks very elegant.
+1 I actually love it
????? i still can’t believe that’s sjp looking so boring!
I’m down with this, the textures work for me. No one can beat Swinton as regards BAFTAs and jumpsuits though.
awkward look
Not the best choice for BAFTAs, but I loved that she matched the velvet top of her jumpsuit with a velvet clutch! So chic and smart, but still wrong outfit for this occasion..
She sat in the front row- keen and in good humour and when she walked gracefully onto the stage, did a short poised intro(I actually exclaimed ‘What a doll!) and presented the best actor prize.
She was an Presenter(not a nominee, nor was any of her films in contention for a prize), an American one at that, at an event that had the British High society putting on a show at it’s jolly good, polished, civilised best and to me, she was MOST appropriately dressed and conducted. Again, Such a doll and the best dressed
