Dame Helen Mirren joined the ranks of hair chameleon Katy Perry and lavender-loving Kelly Osbourne with her shocking new ‘do, which she debuted at the 2013 BAFTA Awards on Sunday at the Royal Opera House in London, England.
To go with her hair, the Leading Actress nominee chose a long-sleeve gown from the Nicholas Oakwell Spring 2013 Couture runway.
Featuring floral embroidery, the chiffon dress was somewhat weighed down with its heavy lining and that shiny silver wrap. But at least she didn’t up her BAFTAs surprise factor even more by wearing the gown in its original, see-through runway incarnation.
It didn’t really matter what she had on, though, as her cotton-candy pixie cut was the main attraction.
She quoted ‘America’s Next Top Model’ as her inspiration behind the hair hue. My jaw is still on the floor.
Known for her classic grace on the red carpet, this was quite the scandalous departure for Helen.
She certainly gave the fellow Nicholas-Oakwell-outfitted Paloma Faith a run for her money in the hair department.

Just gotta say…LOVE THE HAIR…rock it if you can Dame Helen.
+1!
She’s rocking it. Love! Love! Love! I can’t even find words! I just wish I could be like her in some decades.
wow. it’s PINK! almost didn’t notice. TOO COOL.
+1. Loveee !!!
Helen is ageless and this just proves it!
I’m wondering why she dyed her hair, is it for a new role? She looks great.
LOL She is cute with the hair do and color. She is Queen
LOVE LOVE LOVE! Fierceness has no age limit and Ms. Mirren is working that hair!!
+1! Love her sense of fun and fashion. LOVE.
She is so adorable. While this may not be best dressed of the night, Her dress is nice and I love how she was creative with her hair, she defies her age!
I utterly love this. That woman has balls.
No the pink hair. It reminds me of an 70′s UK tv show called ‘Are you being served’ where a Mrs Slocombe character had hair colour like this.

She does look elegant but youthful in this dress otheriwse.
Rock on. The dress and wrap are spectacular.
When Helen was on Graham Norton a few weeks ago, she did ask Perrie from Little Mix how she got her purple hair. She seemed very intrigued, now I know why lol.
Oh man. Not sure how I feel about the hair….but Helen still looks great. She knows no fear
HELEN MIRREN? Seriously, I love the dress and wrap–elegance as usual, but the hair just kills me. I mean, yes, it looks “lovely” with the dress colorwise, but it should be a clutch, not a hair color! I have to say I’m a little thrown.
P.S. *whispers* I think she still looks elegant, even with the hair. ONLY SHE.
Couldn’t love her more. Love the hair and love that she takes risks.
She’s simply fabulous!
Dame Helen Mirren channeling her inner Nikki Minaj….. words I never thought I’d utter. But, she looks really cute
I sooo love it – I think it really works on her!!! Why shouldn’t she have fun with her hair, especially since she wouldn’t have to pre-bleach it like so many of us with naturally darker hair would to achieve the color….Hmmm this gives me a bit more courage to take the plunge with the hair experimentation….
Love that she watches America’s Next Top Model! At any age you can be inspired by trends, good for her. Actually I find this dress one of her least inspiring in recent times, it is nice but a little safe, the hair makes it for me!
i am in love! i just don’t know why but i am. i love the gown and wrap and how it ties so exceedingly well with her pink hair! she somehow makes pink hair look regal and elegant…sigh! how does she do it? that woman has some confidence!
Oh my! That is quite a change. I think she’s pulling it off.
Rachel, just want to congratulate you on your posts. I like it that you always deliver a personal opinion and you seem to have a great sense of humour similar to Catherine Kallon’s. Keep it going
if anyone could make pink toned hair classy it is helen. the dress is nice, just glad it wasnt a dolce & gabbana piece.
