Super Bowl 2013: Jennifer Hudson Scores a Touchdown

Superbowl 2013 Hair

The Super Bowl hit a new high this year with stunning appearances by Alicia Keys, Jennifer Hudson and Beyonce, along with her former Destiny’s Child bandmates Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams.

But while all the ladies’ performances were pitch perfect, not all hit the right notes in the hair department. Kelly Rowland’s overgrown extensions and heavy fringe looked wig-like and Michelle Williams also looked like she needed a trim with her too long waves.

Los Angeles based stylist Shin An was on hand in the NFL Experience Lounge Gifting Suite in New Orleans this year to style attending celebrities and players’ wives for the big event. Shin, whose salon was recently named among the Best 100 in the US by ELLE magazine, gave us her verdict on which of the divas scored a touchdown with their coiffure.

‘Beyonce’s hair looked great but predictable. She went for the same big, beachy, sexy hair,’ said Shin.

‘Alicia’s hair was overly done, lacked style and height and did not compliment her face.’

‘Jennifer Hudson was my favourite. Her loose, messy chignon with the full bangs was hot and looked much more current and interesting.’

‘To copy Jennifer’s look start with dry, brushed hair and, starting about 10cm down from the roots, spray on some Sachajuan Volume Powder. This is a powder-based spray that creates volume and provides structure with a matte finish. Work it through with your fingers.’

‘Next, pull the hair to a low side ponytail. Separate the hair into two parts and then twist them around each other. Starting at the bottom, pull out some random pieces to loosed the coil and create texture. Wrap the coil into a bun-like shape and pin into place with bobby pins.’
