Sarah Jessica Parker paraded out a bold style statement at the amfAR New York Gala to kick off Fall 2013 Fashion Week, hosted at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City on Wednesday evening.
The actress went to the Maison Martin Margiela Spring 2013 ‘Artisanal’ Couture runway for inspiration, where she found it in a fiery fuchsia number wrapped up in an extra-long black-and-white sash.
The colour of this strapless column gown with its vivid silk velvet, coaxed into a herringbone pattern, was exhilarating.
But the dress did completely overwhelm SJP’s petite frame, especially with the puddle of fabric that surrounded her every pose.
With a smokey eye, nude lip and her hair in loose waves, she tossed the model’s mask to the curb. After all, the look was high-concept enough without such tribal trappings.
The ‘Artisanal’ collection mixes playful invention and innovative upcycling with a sense of romance and wit. But the exits can still be challenging for the red carpet.

I almost wanna tie that sash around the dress and give her a waist. regardless tho I am happy with the look. when I saw the title of the post I was sooo shocked cause I dont think ive ever seen someone wear MMM couture. props for being a true fashion gal.

I hem it up so it isn’t dragging but the dress and sash prints are great and it’s and interesting design. She’s pulling off the loose fit and high concept of the dress.
I like the dress a lot and think it looks spectacular on her except for the excess fabric at the bottom. I can see wearing it a little long so that it pools a little, but not this long.
Very cool, in a luxe 70′s Halston, or Norma Kamali vibe. Hair and makeup are lovely. I’m so glad she left her hair down and soft, and didn’t go for a severe updo or frizzed out mane.
Its definitely a “hey did you see what sjp wore?” dress.
I don’t know, SJP doesn’t look like she is stressing her exit from the RC at all…..and I think she looks fabuluously wonderful, a true RC pro!
Normally I would agree about the length, but she is working the HELL out of this look. I love it on SJP!
like the dress but cut a few inches off the hemline and it would be perfect, glad she didnt go ott with accessories.

I really did assume this was Halston when I first saw it. SJP is one of the few that can make this work. It’s not a BDOTW look for me, but I do love her red carpet gumption

Not my style but other than the puddling hem I actually think she’s pulling this off. It suits her style well.
I’ve just been wasting my evenings watching Sex in the City re-runs so OF COURSE I am head-over-heels in love with this look.
