‘Mad Men’ actress January Jones used the 2013 SAG Awards to try out a fashion-forward statement that was far from the ’60s style of her show.
While she went for the popular black-and-white trend, she took a big risk with her Prabal Gurung Pre-Fall 2013 look styled with two Lorraine Schwartz platinum and diamond bracelets.
The shorter cocktail-style dress was transformed from its runway incarnation with the addition of a longer skirt to follow the formality of the Screen Actors Guild occasion.
The structured gown fits her well, but the napkin-like neckline of the bodice may be an acquired taste.
Her beauty look likewise followed the same bold path, with her pompadour-style hair and bright orange-red lip.
Did you appreciate January’s daring jaunt down the red carpet?

It isn´t working as a gown version for me, the pompadour hairstyle looks ridiculous, an odd unappealing look as far as I´m concerned.
and the bright orange lippie isn´t working for me either. It´s like a weird ´restaurant hostess´ costume, not every bold edgier look works unfortunately, and I think it´s a miss for her.
I prefer the lookbook version. falling flat on Jones.
Bored.
The dress is good and very flattering to her. However neck up is what I don’t like. The hair is too severe, the bold crimson lips adds up to it, and makes this risk fail.
I like the runway version, the long skirt looks like an afterthought. Don’t like the hair or the makeup. I think Nicole Kidman could pull off this look, not January.
This is the January of old–pulling off an edgy, futuristic look with great aplomb. The simple yet daring gown is well balanced by the hair and makeup. It really works for her.
+1
+2 LOVED it
+3
+4 adore this look!
+5!! It’s gonna make my BDOTY!
+6 I LOVE it! Refreshing!
I totally agree!
Agreed! The hair and neckline aren’t necessarily to my taste, but she is totally pulling this off!
Ms Jones looks wonderful..forward looking fashion, no holds barred..awesome!!!
I like the lookbook dress but it doesn’t work without the shorter draped skirt to balance it out. Also, I don’t like the way in January’s version you can see that black neck band behind the “napkin.” Did they use a sheerer fabric?
This whole look from the hair down just isn’t working for me.
I really like this on her. It’s modern and minimalist. It’s both edgy and not overdone and I think the hair and red lip compliment that idea.
THAT HAIR!!! its sooo awful, I cant forgive it. what was she thinking???
I love this on her, and I usually don’t like her red carpet choices, but I find this flattering on her and interesting.
Finally, a look that i not boring.love it. BDOW!!!
This is one of my favorites of the night – a stand out look that January carries off beautifully
I’m not wowed but I like it.
When I saw this dress in the lookbook I went gaga. This is such an awesome design and so unique. I was hopin for a JLaw PG combo again, this time at the oscars but JJ has betten her to the punch. A great dress and a gopd look, I even look the makeup andnalthough the hairs aa bit high for my taste, I love this daring look. NowI have to find another dress for my fav and oscar pick JLaw.
I like all of it, though I prefer the shorter version of the dress.
There aren’t many risk takers at all on the red carpet, so i always like seeing what January is going to do.
I ADORE the lookbook version.
Love it. Totally stands out amongst the other looks.
I like everything but the pompadour. I think the pompadour belongs to the hair style graveyard.
YES! I totally agree. Love the dress, hate the hair.
The lookbook version is flawless but it doesn’t translate well as a gown at all.
January has done edgy much better in the past so that’s a no for me.
I don’t like her hair. I prefer this as presented in the lookbook. This isn’t working for me.
Dont hate it, but dont love it either. Just not my personal taste. It fits her very well.
She took a risk, but I am not a fan. The top looks like she’s wearing a napkin. The hair is too OTT. Big fat no for me.
If you can’t turn to JJ to bring the cutting edge, who can you turn to? I’m not in love with this, but I do find it interesting.
Bonus points for the hair. Very Twiggy Stardust.
now this is just my opinion, but i think she looks crazy, and quite often her fashion risks just make her look quite strange. i love the red versace (?) moment she had a while back though. i think that is the only good january jones moment i can personally remember.
appreciate that its something different.
Yes, I appreciate the effort. If I see one more strapless, mermaid gown with sparkle, I’ll have to scream. At least she’s playing with fashion instead of going the barbie, cookie-cutter route like everybody else being lauded here.
So glad for that January is daring on the red carpet, I wish more stars would be more fearless in their approach to dressing.
I can see why some would hate it; for me, it’s a nice return to form for January.
