Michelle Obama’s Second Term Bangs

Michelle Obama’s Second Term Bangs

While there was plenty of buzz surrounding the First Lady’s outfit choices for President Obama’s swearing in, inauguration and the ball that followed, it was Michelle’s newly cut fringe that caused the most stir over the weekend.

Chicago based Johnny Wright, her exclusive hairstylist since 2008 and the force behind her new look, explained: ‘It was a collaborative effort… she was ready for a change.’

‘Sometimes all we need is a little change in our appearance to give us the extra oomph. Cutting bangs is one of those go-to styles that can immediately change your appearance,’ he said. ‘And the great thing about bangs is I think they work for all face shapes. The thing is you need to get it cut properly for your face shape and that why I say you should always consult a professional and see what works best for you. Should they be shorter? Should they be longer? Should they be swept to one side?’

But that is the hardest part according to Wright. ‘The only trick with maintaining bangs is just keeping them trimmed,’ he says. ‘A lot of salons offer free bang trims so you go in and keep the fresh look you want.’

‘Bangs are so cool because they can make you look really sexy and youthful and at the same time really change up your look. It’s a new year and I think it’s a great opportunity for women to adopt a new look.’

Here are Wright’s tips for achieving a presidential head of hair:

‘You should be deep conditioning to soften and nourish the hair shaft every time you shampoo. There is no such thing as too much deep conditioning.’ He recommends SoftSheen-Carson Roots of Nature Reconstructing Deep Treatment which strengthens hair with a blend of shea butter and green tea.

‘My biggest complaint from clients is that they have thin hair that doesn’t have any volume.’ He swears by Amla Legend Billion Hair Potion Hair and Scalp Serum.  ‘A little goes a long way and it gives you a noticeably thicker, fuller look.’
