I stayed up until 2am eager to watch history in the making as Michelle Obama revealed her gown to the world at the public Inaugural Ball in Washington, D.C. on Monday evening.
I was delighted to see that Mrs O wore Jason Wu again.
After a weekend of muted colours, she dazzled the crowds wearing a custom ruby chiffon and velvet gown which showcased her athletic figure and radiant smooth skin.
While some of you may have been rooting for another designer, I think she made the right choice in wearing a designer she felt comfortable with, whose feminine design aesthetic has flattered her on so many occasions over the past four years.
Kimberly McDonald provided the custom-made jewels and Jimmy Choo provided her heels – I’m guessing they are kitten heels.
The only question I have is, “where was Chris de Burgh?”
If ever there was a moment to sing ‘Lady in Red’, this was it.
Jason’s simple reply on twitter was #Inshock!!!

She looks amazing! That ruby red looks amazing against her beautiful skin tone. I agree with FC, in that she made the right choice in going with Jason Wu again. Bravo!
+1
She looks RADIENT!!!!…
Well done, FC – love your commitment! She looks stunning in the dress. Not a huge fan of the new hairstyle but she can’t really do wrong in my book.
She looks lovely, but I’m not a fan of the new hairdo DDD:
BUT I LOVE her
Politics aside, I love this dress, very elegant. I thought she might wear Wu again. I love the color but almost wish that it were grander in style, for the event. Very nice look, though.
I thought I wud have to wait for another few hours to see the post here since it was already so late :O, Thanks a ton FC, and you need to go to sleep
I just skipped a beat when I saw her, she looks stunning. A perfect red, a perfect look. Had wished for some other designer, but well would it have upstaged this look, well NO
Loveeee her!
I never sleep when major fashion moments are happening….you know me better than that
Bless you for it!!!
Hahaha Yaa (After seeing your tweet that you were considering sleeping since it was late, I was secretly yelling.. Noooo FC dont , you wanna stay
)
Ha…now I am WIDE awake.
“If ever there was a moment to sing, ‘Lady in Red’, this was it.”
I love how you nailed the zeitgeist of the moment, FC!
Wonderful!!! That shade of red is just gorgeous on her. I’m still not sure about the new hair-do, but she looks terrific.
I didn’t like her first inaugural gown, BTW, finding it very unflattering to her figure. But this one is a whole different story. Love it.
Jason Wu. Another historic moment for him! I know he is beyond happy! I figure she would go back to him for this occasion. She looks gorgeous. The dress is stunning

+ what SilentVisitor said
Lol……
LOL.
I love the dress but I was really hoping for something more. I feel like this gown would be better suited for a state dinner rather than the Inaugural Ball. FLOTUS looks beautiful but she lacks the major wow factor that she had back in 2009.
I’m stunned by her beauty. Inside and out.
This gown only highlights that
I am so in love with this look! She looks so perfect and so beautiful! The dress is divine, what an amazing moment for Jason, I absolutely adore his work!
Congratulations to the Obamas!
The dress is beautiful, elegant, simple but stunning. The President looks great too
Does anyone else prefer the first Wu dress in 2009?
it was too bridal for my tastes. This is more like it
Yes, I totally do. Actually,I think this is quite similar to the first one, but the red dress (which is beautiful, no denying) lacks the wow factor that the white one had.
Yes
I might not be a fan of the politics, but I was heartily looking forward to Mrs. Obama’s gown….and she looks stunning. Red is a fabulous color on her. Utterly and completely. =D
BEST DRESSED OF THE WEEK.
I was hoping for a less established designer but she does look BDOTW stunning. The vibrant red packs a vivid punch.
Happy for four more years of the Obamas in the White house.
While I was hoping she’d give another designer a break, I can’t deny that this is another big fashion moment for Michelle Obama courtesy of Jason Wu. Great choice. The dress has power & beauty.
She has the most awful taste in clothes. Her clothes are so juvenile.
Juvenile? In what sense? If sheath dresses, coats, heels, tasteful hairstyles, and subdued makeup are juvenile, I can only what sophisticated is.
wonder what sophisticated is*
She looks stunning. End!
Love the dress and her look. She has looked spectacular all weekend. One of the best accessories she has is that handsome man and the looks of love and delight they share. It is nice to have a Pres and FL that seem to really love and enjoy each other! Thanks again for covering our gal this weekend.
+1.

I don’t like politics, but I love seeing people visibly in love like these ones. Specially after so long years.
I can’t stand how loose and billowy ALL her dresses are. She has the body for fitted designs. Great hourglass figure, nice waist-to-hip ration. This is just another cringe-worthy response from me.
I loved this. Perfect color red for her. Those guns of hers are ablazin’! And the dress flowed nicely.
I have goosebumps!! She looks sensational!! This is already my candidate for BDOTY
Style-wise, Michelle is my favourite FLOTUS ever
She looks divine. There is no fault in wearing Jason Wu again, since she looks flawless in his designs and this is no exception. I love this shade of red. BDOTW contender.
The Flotus wowed us all day but I didnt love this gown, I did love the color.
She looks fantastic. I love it
Love it, even disliking the hair so much! She looks great! Radiant! Love the bracelets!
Adore this! The color, the velvet texture, the little touch of bling 9with the amazing blingy bracelet). It is so flattering to her figure, too. Best Shoulders Award! I, for one, also love the new bangs. They suit her.
FC, if you ever make it to Washington DC you should go to the Smithsonian’s American History Museum, where they have a whole section on First Lady Inaugural Gowns. They have several of the most recent ones on display, plus pieces, pictures and drawings of some of the older ones.
That will be my first stop
She looked beautiful, although I can’t stop picturing the white dress from the first inauguration and the blue royal dress by Vera Wang!
P-E-R-F-E-C-T!!!
I adore this! The Flotus looked head to toe gorgeous. I did not care for the first Inauguaral gown. As I wrote on my blog today, I don’t think there was any fashion politics involved. Out of respect and friendship, of course JW would be asked to submit a gown. Ultimately she chose what she loved and looked best in. End of story.
The Thom Brown daytime ensemble was spectacular too and in this moment she gave another huge boost to a lesser known designer.
The whole First Family looked glorious yesterday and did us proud!
personally i think the dress looks cheap, also not loving the hair.
I am always wishing she or her handlers would show more restraint. Fashion victim is what always comes to mind.
She looked AMAZING omg. We all gasped when she stepped out. And she and her family are so beautiful, and she seems so lovely inside and out. I was so pleased!
