Julianne Hough was in full princess mode with an edge at the 2013 Golden Globe Awards held in Beverly Hills on Sunday night.
The actress wore a Monique Lhuillier Pre-Fall 2013 gown.
Her white tulle gown with gold sparkling embellishments featured a glittering illusion neckline and voluminous ruffled skirt.
With so much detail on the dress, I would have preferred the actress keep her hair and makeup simple, as to not overpower the look.
This rockabilly pompadour seems out of place with such a feminine dress.
Julianne explained to E! that she wanted to add a bit more edge via her Salvatore Ferragamo clutch and intricate earrings made out of an actual fossilized beetle.
Sometimes, less is more.

Call me crazy but I like this look. She looks BDOTW worthy. I am not bothered by her hair either.
I’m right there with you.
I love this. The hair adds some punch imo.
I agree. I think she looks the best I may have ever seen her look. Dress is lovely and the hair goes perfectly with it IMHO. Clutch and earrings… though I have a hard time seeing them, work just fine too. I like the little dash of color via the clutch
I love it as well. BDOTW worthy!!!!
I like it too!
Awful…
Ugly dress and too much make up.
+1
The styling is a let down, the sweet charming gown like this calls for elegant pretty styling, it didn’t need the edge, the hair and makeup should’ve been elegant. Too bad, this could’ve been a sweet moment.
This is BAD.
I think the hair keeps the looks from being too sweet and princess-y. I love it, a BDOTW-contender for me!
I really love this Dress. I agree BDOTNight worthy from what I’ve seen so far.
I really hated this when I first saw it on television, but this photograph makes me warm to it a bit.
Though I agree the hair and creepy insect jewelry is wrong for the look.
Im watching Live from the red carpet on E!. It looked horrible!!!
I agree 100% about the hair. Instead of adding a modern edge to the look, it just looks out-of-place, like those mix-and-match paper dolls where you pair different heads with different outfits. Nevertheless it is a stunning gown and I love that clutch.
I guess the hair was meant to be edgy to keep the look from being too sweet.
Overall, I like this look. I think that her eye makeup was a bit harsh though.

Something is wrong with the hips.
Can somebody explain to me how Julianne manage to get an invite for the Emmys, the Golden Globes and other awards even if none of of her work is nominated and she has nothing to promote at the moment?
Her boyfriend host Live from the red carpet
Also she has an upcoming movie coming out. Safe Haven which is being promoted like crazy here.
ok. Thanks for the reply, it makes sense
too much dress for someone who let’s face it, isn’t that big of a star. it’s not even a great dress at that.
I agree with you, FC. The hair and makeup is just wrong here.
But i have to say, i LOVE that dress! It’s gorgeous!!!! It’s a shame Julianne killed it
I actually appreciate that she didn’t take the boring route and make everything princessy and classic, it adds an interest vibe to the look.
I love this beautiful, classic princess look. I kind of wish she’d gone soft with it, but I respect her choice to make it unusual and a bit edgier. I don’t think it’s a disaster. My eyes are on the lovely dress!
Fossilised beetle, really? I don’t mind the look too much but I do wish there was a bit more consistency between the dress and styling.
Never been a big fan of her looks, but this one, is SO FAB. I love the vibe, and she’s doing the rock/princess thing really well, without looking like she’s trying too hard.
looks like a cheap marchesa knock off.
Just when I wrote about how I underestimate Hough, she does this. The dress is ugly (it reminds me of the chicken pox) and the styling is inappropriate.
