Heidi came out to play during last night’s 2013 People’s Choice Awards, hosted at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in California—or at least her braid did. Trendsetting starlets the likes of Lea Michele, Rumer Willis, Katy Perry and Jennifer Lawrence all worked a braided updo to brilliant effect for the show.
What made the style so compelling was its contemporary spin on the traditional hair plait, translated in slightly messy and perfectly imperfect variations. Woven locks seamlessly punched through swept-back ‘dos for a fresh and edgy look.
Rumer and Jennifer allowed a few short, curled layers to fall down from their updos, framing their faces with additional softness, while Lea kept her brunette locks bound back for a sleeker vibe.
Katy took it one step further by embellishing her hair with a sparkling gold Jennifer Behr headband.
This probably won’t be the last time we see braids dominating the young Hollywood set.

Adorable. I liked how it worked for Rumer Willis the most.
Lea’s hair looks like its in cornrows. No me likey.
I love Jennifer and Katy’s hair though, especially Katy’s addition of the headband.
Katy and Lea rocked it best imo because they braided all of their hair.
Leaving layers out looks less polished.
I don’t like Lea’s. It’s too much and too harsh. The other three look great!
Rumer ‘s attempt to channel Elizabeth Barrett Browning is unfortunate.
Katy was my favourite but all are lovely!
Rumor Willis, please step away from the curling iron. That corkscrew of hair hanging in her face ruined an otherwise extremely successful red carpet moment.
